So was lucky enough to get to see this last night.

As a warcraft fan I ****ing loved it. Seeing Ironforge, Stormwind and Goldshire Inn in a movie was great. They've changed a bit of the story, but it wasn't too bad. A lot more action than I expected and a lot less story than I expected, also quite a bit of humour. The neckbeards were in fits of laughter. Some of the spells effects were a bit meh but overall I thought it was really good. Obviously they left it open for another movie so hopefully this is successful enough and we see it sooner rather than later.

Universal guy before the movie said that this movie was smashing the latest Fast and Furious movies sales in china in the first 5 days...Not sure if thats good, but he felt the need to point it out.

Yeah I read a THR article today that says it's doing so well overseas it mightn't matter if it doesn't do too well in the US. Smashing it in China apparently.

Edit: Here it is - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-can-warcraft-win-900385

Good to hear actual Warcraft fans enjoy it, I always suspected it was just the critics who for the most part don't even know what a warcraft is and think it's just a GOT rip off. China is a massive market for movies now and with the E gaming scene in china they were always going to do well there.

I was reading some articles that most Warcraft fans have loved it. Which im hopeful is a good sign

Some reasons for the dislike of the movie have been apparently Westerners aversion to high fantasy and the fact its a bit too focused on setting up sequels.

The critics absolutely despise it though. Not that I care too much what they think.

I just hope it does well so we can get Arthas's story on the big screen.

Not surprising that Warcraft fans love it and non-Warcraft fans (or people who have no idea what Warcraft is) don't like it.

Based off this, Arthas story will probably be the 3rd movie at the earliest.

It'd be interesting to see who plays those sorts of characters in future movies. Arthas, Jaina, Varian Wrynn, Muradin, Uther, etc.

At least its picked one audience though you know? too often a movie based off a medium with a dedicated fan base will change itself to reach a wider audience, miss and alienate its dedicated fans in the process.

Yeah I havnt seen it so im not sure but I think its what everyone wants, even Blizzard. Id be keen for Arthas to be done over two movies, to really build the character and show that decsent. Build the character up and then break him down, could win a lot of critics over with an arc like that. Especially as it appears that character development may be a weak point of the film.

I could see Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing Arthas.

Arthas & Uther right here :p

I don't use Rotten Tomatoes for reviews. The critics on there rate almost everything so harshly. I prefer iMDB since the people who review there are more your average movie goers. That's why it has a 7.9/10 on there and only 18% on RT.

Id imagine the Arthas arc will pretty much be one movie as WC3 and first half to TFT combines, then the 2nd the last half of TFT and the WOW part of the story in the 2nd.

Game of Thrones is a big hit and possibly why this got made.
This movie has been in the works long before GoT (TV series) came around. Spent a lot of time just trying to find a director.

I feel like Arthas should be younger than that. Roughly mid 30s. Nikolaj would be too old in my opinion.

Maybe someone like Alexander Skarsgård?

Hemsworth would be great but doubt he'll have time for two massive franchises, so Channing Tatum for mine, got the personality to give Arthas some life.

Reckon partially why this is reviewing poorly is because Travis Fimmel has the personality of a turnip and can't carry a movie. Gets away with it in Vikings as TV pacing allows more grounded characters.

I think that half the problem with the reviews, blokes have no idea what warcraft even is assume it's a poor GOT knockoff and write it off accordingly

Here's my picks for a few characters in future movies. Just my opinion, of course.

Arthas Menethil: Alexander Skarsgård
