just finished reading the above comments - wardy made a few more than just one mistake today - put that down to inexperience, bad weather and sliipery pill and poor awareness etc

but on the whole, he seemed to get the pill well, and he tackles hard and does great in the 50 50 contests, so i think there is a huge upside with him

I agree with above, but I get the feeling Eade has instructed him (as he did with a young Griff) to back himself and take them on. Sure, we suffer a few turnovers, but the upside when he creates something outweighs it. And he WILL get better.

Id say Ward made about 3 or 4 error turnovers which resulted in North goals, but he goes in like a terrier to get his own ball before doing so. MacMahon just makes the errors...

I think Wardy will be a good long term player but he made a few costly blues today.

One thing I have noted is he has a very slow drop of the ball between the time he releases it by hand and connects with his foot.

It is this exaggerated kicking style that is allowing him to be caught fairly regularly.

He is a loper as a runner but surprisingly can cover the ground quickly once he is up and running...just didn't show too much of it today.

Has a huge upside in his game. Excellent inside player, goes in hard and tackles, one touch player

Tries to do Ryan Griffen things without his pace and gets caught. And even Griff was getting caught 2 years back thinking he could outrun everyone. When Ward's awareness of his limitations match his ability to get the ball he will be huge for us in the midfield in the Westy mold.

not sure if he's got outside issues that are effecting him but looks like his confidence is shot. he's a down hill skier at the best of times and we have to many of those types. oh well see you monday!

His split with his ex and the terrible game he played for us against Carlton in 2007 where he went missing in action; seemed to be around where he entered the downhill spiral.

Considering he played about 114 games for us, although during 2003 & 2004 a 3 legged Dog probably would have got a start in our senior side. He did have his good times with us.

Callan Ward good start, but he is yet to realy nail a game yet, and he still looks a bit light.

Hopefully McMahon stays out of the side for another week and the tigers keep Jake King in the side. He is always handy for a couple of goals(to the opposition).

On the subject of Richmond generosity, I'd like to thank them for their generous gift back in 1999 trade week that has kept on giving in spades - their picks 37 and 66 for Leon Cameron - Leon did play 30-odd very good games for Richmond, but Mitch Hahn and Ryan Hargrave will go close to 500 quality games combined for the Bulldogs. That gift still has plenty left to give. Oh, and good to have Leon back at the kennel where he belongs.

BF rule no. 1 - anyone who's played less than 20 games is a star.

Not that I am a real fan of Jordy, but I feel sorry for him a bit. With his personal issues, drop in form and being hammered by all and sundry from Richmond, it can't be a happy life.

I remember last year, when a BF footy thread on the Richmond board made the back page of the herald sun, with warnings to all players and players family not to look at internet forums. The thread was really disgraceful and it made me think how terrible some people treat the players at times. After all, it is only a game.

The thing though that some players have to realise(and this applies a lot to Jordy) is that the AFL is a brutal and ruthless industry. As a player, if you put your hand out for big money, then your performance has to equal what you are being paid. If you feel that you will suffer from pressure or have personal problems or not being able to live up to a big pay packet, then you should not ask for the big money. Whether a player has personal issues, is irrelevant to the hungry army of supporters who demand a certain performance week in/ week out. It can be a cruel game at time. High rewards but also enormous pressure as well.

Actually he had 15 disposals at 33%(not great and he will improve with age) of which 8 were contested(which is great). He also had 4 clearances which was forth highest for the game(which is also great).

He is 18 years old(and better than any of your kids bar Cotchin) and now part of one of the best mid fields in the league.(Cooney, Griffen, Cross, Boyd, Higgins, Gia, etc)

So are you saying your would prefer McMahon over Ward? I doubt it.

We wouldnt have used pick 19 on Ward anyway.

1. we have enough quality in our midfield we dont need him

true, but we wouldve chosen someone who plays in a position that we needed more growth. So if we already have a decent midfield but our forwards are lacking depth then we wouldve chosen a forward, not ward.

Foley, if it makes you feel any better, Scotty Clayton was absolute desperate for Rance and was absolutely jumping through hoops at the end of the first round with Rance still available. History shows you picked him up one choice before ours with your priority pick.

So while you have probably lost out big time on the McMahon pick 19 trade, it could have been worse for you if you had of traded 18 instead of 19. Rance looks like a really good player so he should be a long term player for you.

Agreed, the system does SFA for fathers in the way of allowing contact.

I think you have your wires crossed about McMahon being the victim, here's the article.

EXCLUSIVE: REBECCA McClure has told a court of the alleged penny-pinching ways of her former partner, AFL player Jordan McMahon.
She claims he dumped her and their one-year-old child interstate, with only a few hundred dollars, and never returned.
McClure is suing McMahon in the County Court, seeking a lump sum payout and a property settlement.
McMahon's manager, Alex McDonald, said the Richmond running defender had not yet received the court statement of claim and could not comment.
In court documents, McClure claimed McMahon earned $275,000 a year in 2008, while she struggled on a receptionist's salary of $35,000.
She claimed she had no idea there was any trouble with their relationship when McMahon left her and daughter, Lila, now almost three, in Adelaide two years ago, never to return.
The mother and child were left shortly after Christmas with their luggage, a few hundred dollars and the use of a car, she said.
She claimed they lived as "husband and wife" for at least two years until December, 2006.
Her court documents outlined the life of a football wife, where she said she attended only the formal football functions and otherwise stayed at home to care for their child.
Though McClure said McMahon was earning $180,000 a year between 2004 and 2006 while playing for the Western Bulldogs, she claimed she worked part-time for less than $20 an hour through her pregnancy to prepare the home for her child.
She alleged she had to pay all of her private health costs for the birth, and her family paid out-of-pocket expenses.
After the birth, McMahon took one day off football, while McClure's mother moved to Melbourne from Adelaide to help care for the newborn, according to the writ.
McClure met the then Western Bulldogs player in 2004 in Adelaide, where she lived with her mother.
She claimed that early in the romance, while she was working three part-time jobs, she had to pay to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne to be with McMahon.
The couple holidayed together in Malaysia for a fortnight, but Miss McClure said she had to pay her way.
The footballer asked her to move to Melbourne and promised to meet all her housing and living expenses until she got a job or was studying, the court document said.
But when she moved into McMahon's Melbourne apartment in December, 2004, he sacked the cleaning lady and expected her to do the household chores.
McClure claimed in court documents that, during their time together, her former partner spent $100 a week on phone gambling and lost $8000 on a 2005 Las Vegas football trip.
Throughout the relationship, McMahon kept his financial affairs secret and maintained separate bank accounts, according to the court document.
In 2006, McClure and her daughter regularly went to Adelaide to visit her mother, who was dying of cancer.
After her mother's death that year, McMahon drove McClure and their daughter to her deceased mother's home, according to her writ.
"After depositing (McClure) at the home of (her) deceased mother, (McMahon) took his possessions and left," the court document said.
Since the split, McMahon has paid McClure 4.5 months of six months' rent, as well as $600 a month, the statement said

He sounds like a real winner and deserves no sympathy
