Some are clearly living in the past and maybe think it's still 1975 and that you have to bat like Bill Lawry to be able to play test cricket.
Things have changed and with the shorter forms of the game becoming more and more popular there will be less and less of the "traditional test match players" and more who play like like Sehwag, Andrew Symonds, Adam Gilchrist, Jesse Ryder (who averages 43) and David Warner.
You mean Bill "averaged 47 as a Test opener" Lawry?

If someone wants to play like him get them in the side f-ing ASAP.

I hope Warner is afforded the opportunities to prove himself that blokes like S.Waugh and Clarke have been given over the years, because he's more talented than both of them, and they've captained the country.

I just spewed a little in my mouth

Warner has tremendous upside if the gamble comes off. He has a good technique, all the shots in the text book and can dominate the bowling. He won't back down, he is almost a 4 foot Hayden. He is a superb fielder as well. I think we should give him some time because if it comes off it will be a good 10 years watching him slay the new ball.

For the last 2 years Alistar Cook has been then best opening batsman in the world and is not a slogger.

You might want to also remeber that Bill Lawry did score a century in a session once too.

If you had someone with Lawry's ability playing at the moment he'd be on a plane to Hobart now.

He looks more solid than Hughes at the moment even though he has played one game. Hughes is way to suspect outside that off stump.

Warner is a star, he got a pretty decent nut and was unlucky to hit his glove.

In the second dig looked right at home even though they only needed 19. His a much better fieldsmen then Hughes, took 4 catches, bowls too but not that it counts for much.

That 3 looked pretty solid.

Everyone should stop jizzing over his 3 4's already, far out.

I'm not for as second suggesting that someone like Cook isn't damn good in test cricket still, or that there isn't still a place for that sort of play in test cricket, but I clearly said you "don't have to play like Bill Lawry" and I'm clearly referring to how Bill batted generally, not in one innings.
Some need to realise that there is more than one way to skin a cat and more than one road that leads to Rome. You can do it successfully the Sehwag (and hopefully Warner) way AND also the Cook (and hopefully the Khawaja) way. That's all I'm saying.

Warner and Khawaja as openers? That would almost make too much sense ;)

Great work on the 100.. BUT HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE WHEN YOUR BATTING WITH A TAILENDER TO CONTINUALLY GIVE HIM THE STRIKE!!!! WTF MAN!!!!

Man... you could of been the hero of the test.

Will admit wasn't supportive of his selection but well done D Warner. Big innings at a critical stage.

Likewise, i didnt think he'd have the technique for it either. However he's performed on the big stage on a wicket where most other batsmen have failed.

My hat off to him, no more questioning him. He's obviously worked much harder at his game than i gave credit. Happy to be wrong on this one, well done Warner! Shame the other bats let us down, again!

Agreed, was the batting of a man who hasn't played much FC cricket. Lacks a temperament to go far in Test Cricket, needs to improve that part of his game (hence why he is called a T20 specialist)

Would love to see the Phil Hughes thread after his first few tests....

Well done to him today. Not a fan but you can't be fans of everyone.

He had to put some trust in his partner, I was not thrilled when he hit a single off the first ball of that final over, but it was either his singles or try to hit sixes, because they had the field right back. I suppose he could have stepped across and tried to hit the ball through the on-side, but that would be very risky. Lyon looked okay, and to be fair he only needed to survive a little bit longer. If Warner tries to go voer the top and is caught, then you have people criticising him for not being conservative enough and not putting faith in his partner.

At the end of the day, he is the last person you should be criticising. He batted wonderfully, showed everyone else how it's done. Barely a false shot, chanceless 123 not out, carried his bat in his second test. How anyone can say he is only suited to T20 after that is mind-boggling. He has a great technique, solid defense, doesn't get frustrated and do something stupid if he hasn't hit a boundary for a couple of overs, and he hurts the opposition while he is out there. He puts pressure on the bowlers, and takes it off the guy batting with him. It's a shame that Usman had a mind-snap after having batted so well for a while.

If you assume that Clarke is playing, given he's the captain, Warner is the next batsman picked for mine. All the other members of the top 7 from this series are under serious pressure.
