While i agree that Selwood had a much better 1st year then Gibbs, both players efforts this year are pretty much on par.

Looking at their respective stats for the year Gibbs averages more kicks than Selwood, but less handballs and overall about 4 less disposals a game this year. Selwood ave. 24 touches a game for 388 in total for the year, while Gibbs averages a tick under 20 for 315 disposals for the year.

However, i think you are underplaying Gibbs ball winning efforts, particularly in the middle...Of Selwoods 388 disposals 125 are contested possessions, which is 32% of his disposals. Compared that to Gibbs contested possessions of 102 from 315 disposals for the year, that also equates to 32%....interesting.

Selwood has laid 55 tackles to Gibbs 52.

And even though they both win the same amount on contested footy, Gibbs' disposal efficiency is 77.98% for the year, compared to Selwoods 75.36%.

The stat Selwood gets Gibbs in, is the centre clearances. Selwood has 56 clearances to Gibbs 37.
However on the flipside Gibbs has done more damage on the scoreboard having kicked 11 goals to Selwood 4.

I guess id be pretty happy with Gibbs and his current season to date.
Do you have stats on game time spent at centre clearances???? I would think that Selwoods opportunities are far greater then Gibbs yet only leads by 19, Also stats on playing and shutting done oppositions best players etc, just to be fair to Gibbs thats all...compare direct opponents stats and effectiveness.

no i cant think of anywhere i could get them...i would dare say though that alot of Gibbs stats have been accumalated in the last 5-7 weeks?

Selwood recieved close attention in both games, having taggers on him for periods of time in both games, and he was one of our best in both games, outstanding against Hawthorn.
Selwood looked flyblown vs the Hawks. No-one within 10m of him all night.

Pfft, yes mate, whatever.

Works a treat if the trolling gets too annoying. :thumbsu:

Given his inability to mount anything resembling a discussion on how unaccountable Selwood is, GC is a troll and has the honour of being the third person on my ignore list.

Also note that Selwood spends a lot more time off the ground, he spends a great deal of time on the bench, alway spends the first 5 minutes of each quarter at least off the ground, i doubt Gibbs would spend much time on the bench when he is playing HBF, when talking in terms of efficiency i think it is important to note that it is harder to be more efficient in some positions than others, when you are playing a role as a HBF drifting about the backline you get much more time and are generally under less pressure, when you are playing a perminant midfield role you generally are pressurized alot more by opposition players across the ground and are not allowed as much time, especially when Selwood is in the clearances under the packs more than Gibbs is, it is a lot harder to be pin point accurate in the clearances then it is across HBF. so Selwood definitely wins out on the efficiency.

so when their efficiency rate is pretty much equal, when Selwood has been playing as a permanent midfielder and Gibbs has been cruising across half back much of the time, and Selwood is averaging 4 more disposals a game then Gibbs, ( 31 in the past 6 games i may add) and spends much less time on the ground then Gibbs, how are they therefor equal?

goes in favor of Selwood quite easily

I've only activated the "I" option once before. Unfortunately if the knob you are attempting to ignore is quoted by another poster, its post comes up anyway. If that makes sense.

Thats fine, but actually not seeing the words there is great, doesn't have the "bait" effect so many trolls are looking for.

Right now for example, I have got no idea if GC was actually responding to me or not, but given his lack of manners and ability to talk sensibly about Gibbs or Selwood for that matter, I just don't care. He is gone. :)

I suspect however, that yet again he won't have addressed Selwoods lack of accountability for his direct opponent. Meaning in a strong side he will do well, but would get exposed in our team.

I am not sure where about's you have been living the past 6 or so months, but i am sure you are aware of the unmanned style of play Hawthorn have with their "zone cluster" they set up, They leave opposition players free they never man up, just at center clearances and stoppages they man up, and Selwood had Sewel on him for a majority of the night at stoppages and Clearances, the fact Selwood was able to break through the cluster and stoppages where he was given close attention under extreme pressure all night, with perfect disposal and efficiency is a big reason we won that game, especially in that last quarter when the game needed to be won he stepped up and got 10 touches, simply brilliant.

he would be even better, At geelong he gets less game time then he would at any other club, Joel is the one who throws himself into the action and get's the ball himself and creates plays, not the other way around, Gibbs does not go in as hard as Selwood does, there for this arguement you use would suggest that Gibbs is the one being made look good by Judd stevens and murphy, because he does not go in as hard as Selwood does, and is having the ball fed out to him by these players.

Last two weeks we played second and third on the ladder with no Ablett and Ling playing, and Selwood recieved close attention in both games, having taggers on him for periods of time in both games, and he was one of our best in both games, outstanding against Hawthorn.

More the question is wouls Gibbs even get a game at Geelong? Definately wouldn't, their is no one he is good enough to replace.
I bet they'd find a spot for him.

Don't worry about who Gibbs is surrounded by we're 11th on the ladder. How good would Selwood be if he played for a sh1t club when not surrounded by terrific, physically strong bodies? I'm assuming good but not as good as he is now. He would develop at a more "normal" rate. I'm not going to argue who's better because at this point of their career that's pointless. Just don't be knocking Gibbs because his performances, skills and the scalps he's been taking have been have been outstanding.

Try looking up yourself.

don't believe they would, our defence is the best in the league, he would not get a spot in their, Our midfielders are Ablett, Corey, Bartel, Kelly, Selwood, Ling, he would not replace any of them.
Might get in ahead of Selwood!!! Just kidding. Midfields run deeper than that, hence the huge rotations, and he can take on some huge tasks given the big scalps he's taken. He'd be straight in. I'm tipping someone would be unlucky. Imagine how good he'd be in Geelong's current side surrounded by that team. Be an absolute star. He'd look 20-30% better than he is now.

This thread has been hijacked enough. What started out as a thread about recruiting, has turned into a p1ssing contest that serves no purpose at all.

A public message to you Geelong_crazy. Whilst you don't appear to have broken any board rules, we DO NOT want your biased Geelong views here anymore. Quite happy to debate you on the main board, but not here.
