Not true.

Given that the bloke we would have taken at pick 24 was still there for us to take at pick 40, why the disgust?

The other clubs inability to see the talent that is Mitch Robinson has effectively handed Warnock to us for near nothing. Disgusted? Hardly.

I'm disgusted because we traded pick 24 for a useless big man.

now i know how essendon felt with James Heard, hope we don't have to wait for him to get better to win a flag though!
Pardon?:D

If you can get a tape of the Dockers vs Dons and Dockers vs Saints (and can bear to watch it) you will see he is far from useless......and if its the injuries you are referring to then I expect a similar comment regarding wasting a pick on Walker.

Did you miss my point about getting the player that we would have taken at pick 24 anyway?

However, you fail to notice that it only brings each of our successive picks down a notch. If we would have drafted Robinson with pick 20 then we would still have pick 40 to use.

Just because we chose players that we rated higher than their eventual draft positions does not mean that there were not others we also rated who were no longer available.

Nuh.

I think it's pretty obvious that had we not traded 24 and some loose change for Warnock, we would of jumped at the chance to draft Robinson with 24. It had been well documented that Carlton rated Robbo in their personal top 10 and would have nabbed him at 24, although nothing is certain in the draft, this is a very safe bet.

If you can find me a ruckmen (which was a masssssive priority for us) or even a player of equal or better potential and talent then Warnock taken after pick 40 then please share...because that is what it comes down to.

But as it stands we got Warnock, who has actually played some AFL footy and given our recruiters an insight into his abilities and potential after a few years on a senior list, and Robinson who we would of taken anyway....

For me Warnock + Robinson >>>> daylight >>> Robinson + Best available at 40

We must remember that getting Warnock wase equal to if not less a risk then drafting an untried kid because he has actually played and been tested at afl level and was deemed a good option by Carlton heavyweights...thats good enough for me.

My opinion on Andrew Walker is widely known.

Check the 'is there a spot for Carrots' thread.

I didn't miss your point, if we took Robinson at 24, who knows who could have been available at 40, we may have another good player on the list, or we could have gone bust and get a player who may never play a game for us (which is what Warnock will probably end up achieving anyway).

And now the masterstroke is revealed. Warnock was never going to be our first ruck folks. He was recruited to give a hurry up to Hammer and Sammy. Judging by their form last game and for Sammy throughout the NAB Cup .... mission accomplished. We now have two hungry rucks feeling the pressure of last chance senior football, coming on strong ... all for the bargain basement price of Pick 24.

Sheer brilliance Blues .... sheer brilliance.

Disclaimer: The above theory comes from the dark recesses of my mind and any similarities to real life are purely coincidental.

Haha,
Delisting big big red then picking him up with pick 70 odd in the rookie draft was also a great modivating technique....and in true arrogant carlton style, giving every club numerous chances to take him.:thumbsu::D

That makes me feel better :)

I read someone on here saying that we would have used pick 40 on O'keffe neway!!

The doubters on Warnock obviously missed some of his games in 07 and 08. He is very mobile for his size, has good ruck skills and his general football skills are excellent. There was a bit of hype around him after a few classy games in 07.

If he can get fit and stay fit he is a certainty to be our number 1 ruckman unless and until Kreuzer grows further, Jacobs gets quicker or Hampson acquires AFL level skills and composure.

Take a good look at the players taken after 40 in this draft.

Note how they do in the next year or so. Apart from maybe one diamond in the rough.......a random roughy......I'll bet none of them do what Warnock will in the next 2-3 years.
we may have another good player on the list, or we could have gone bust and get a player who may never play a game for us (which is what Warnock will probably end up achieving anyway).
Warnock can play. He is bigger than Hampson, CAN play footy, is just as mobile.

Did you jump off Kreuzer when he had his hip injury before round 1 last year as well?

Hello Garlett, Michelle and Sause were up for pormotion before this if you beleive the rumours, great to see Garlett get his chance, he really deserves it...love that he trained with Hawthorn..love to see him stick it up them

Well said!!

Some posters on here are reacting as if this is news to them. Warnock has been injured since we traded him, firstly recovering from shoulder surgery and then with stress fractures.

There was almost zero chance of him playing seniors until round 8ish anyway so this is just a way of elevating Jacobs.

The club was just giving Warnock every opportunity to surprise them with a speedier than expected recovery.

Dont panic, his injuries are being well managed and will prove his worth (pick 24 for a young mobile ruckman with a good tank, skills and knowledge of the game) when fully fit.

Icke knew of Robbie from his freo days so a lot of insight would have been gained prior to any negotiation.

If Warnock is out a while concievably we could elevate 3 rookies now (1 LTI, 2 nominated) and another after rd 11, so Garlett, Joseph, Jacobs now and Pfieffer after rd11 (I cant see Pfeiffer getting promoted early as he has not played much pre season footy, he may even be injured.
That's how I read it. I think this announcement has a lot to do with Sam's performance in the pre-season. They'll be happy to let Warnock get better in his own time and then hopefully bring him back without any pressure.

You have to say that Jacobs is a (moon) shoe in for elevation now. What is the situation with rookie listed players when the LTI player is ready for return, do they go back down? or can they stay and another elevated rookie demoted back to rookie, for example Jacobs comes up from LTI in place of Warnock. Joseph also comes up as a nominted rookie. Warnock is ready to resume, but Jacobs is ripping it up so Joseph is demoted back. Does it work that way or if Jacobs comes up for Warnock he must go down again if Warnock comes back?

Does anyone know the answer to this?

If it has to be the LTI promoted rookie that goes off the list then we must make Jacobs one of the elevated rookies and one of the small guys the LTI - ruck options are too crucial to our improvement

Freo's won a trade hey? :thumbsu:

By the way, Anthony >>>>>>>>> Robinson.

You never used to be this ignorant. What's gone Gerry Genocide on your brain cells lately?

Apologise if this has been addressed already but i didn't come across it:confused:
Is there a chance we can elevate three rookies now Warnock is on LTI? Just thinking with no veteran listed players that makes two spots and the LTI spot could become a third? Or would being forced to upgrade cancel out one of them?
I'd love to get three: Sauce, Garlett and Joey step up to the plate boys:thumbsu:
