SEABY = SHIT and no upside
WARNOCK has potential and can become a elite tap ruckmen of the competition

Correct. IF we're lucky we might get a decent year or two out of Seaby but no more. Warnock COULD develop into a bit of a force in a couple of years or so - much more up-side than Seaby.

I'm in the Seaby camp. Mostly because it's a gamble we can afford to take, given that regardless of who we take here, we've got a top 20 ruckman waiting in the wings to take over in Hampson, as well as Cloke and, list management pending, Jacobs who could go either way.

With pick 24 likely to be rejected, I get the feeling we'll be paying far more than necessary for Warnock, given that there is supply to match the demand in this trade week for ruckmen (Warnock, Seaby, Charman, Griffin, Taylor, Lade, and to an extent, Street and White all on the market as well.)

As cliched and over-hyperbole'd as it may sound, this pick 24 suddenly becomes the most valuable pick 24 in the history of the drafting system. If Fremantle decide to take it, rather than leave it, then I can certainly live with that. However, anything else, and the priority should then turn to what else is available on the market, with Pick 24 being decent currency. A mature bodied, yet still young premiership ruckman in Seaby who won't break the bank is an educated gamble as an educated gamble gets.

All time? or Present ruckmen because that's not a glowing statment for Hammo.

I do agree with what your saying though in that Seaby is an educated gamble that worst case scenario we only get another 2 or 3 years of decent sevice in the ruck. Better than that of Hackland and what we're getting right now with KHC. At any rate you would think that by that time we would get KH up and firing.

Okay, this is where we are at:

Kreuzer - probably 2 years away from assuming our number one ruck spot, unless he turns himself into a permanent forward in the meantime.

Hampson - two years away from a possible number one ruck spot, maybe 3. We contracted him for 3 years in case he wants to go home to the Gold Coast in 2.

Cloke - not tall enough to be a tap ruckman and that is what our midfield needs.

Jacobs - looks gone if we grab another ruckman.

Available ruckmen:

Warnock - has the height, should be a decent tap ruckman but it is all a guess. His stats playing as a number one ruckman are pretty average. We need someone to fill the breach for 2 years, plain and simple, so that our midfield do not get carved up by lack of supply and get two years older without success. If Warnock can not become a top 8 ruckman over the offseason, why are we getting him, when Kreuzer and Hampson can take just as long to get to the same point or better?

Seaby: Seaby's stats are far better when Cox is not playing. He is more ready to compete now than Warnock is. Warnock may be a star ruckman, but so will Kreuzer. We will sacrifice 2009 with Warnock and will be putting faith in 2010.

White: Too short, can't compete as a tap ruckman and supply the midfield.

There is a thread on the main board highlighting this. Is Seaby an Ackland? I don't know, how tall is he and how many hitouts does he get? He can also play forward when Kreuzer has a spell on the ball.

Not sure about all this Hampson to GC, his parents have sold up there and live in Melb, he has pretty much made Melbourne home these days. Why would anyone want to leave a club on the rise ;)

And yet every other snarky "I can't believe anyone would pick Seaby, I know soooo much about footy" post is nothing more than that.

Simply put, put up or shut up.

Warnock.

Seaby is better than most people on BF think and performed when it matters the most.

BUT I think Warnock has more ruck talent and the potential to be a dominant tap ruckman like Harry Madden who blossomed once he left the Scum.

Warnock could become a better ruck than Sandilands in time.

Warnock appears to have better mobility and agility than Sandilands when he follows up after a bounce and tackles the opposition's mids.

Seaby can kick more goals in the ruck than Warnock, but we have Hampson and Kreuzer booked into be our athletic resting ruckmen who will push forward and kick goals.

We need a tap ruckman and not another mobile follower who plays like a tall midfielder.

Warnock will be cheaper than Seaby who is still contracted to the WCE.

They will want to bend us over if we chase Seaby's signature. ;)

No to Browne and pick 24 for Seaby.
From what i read, Warnock is too much of a cry baby.
Carlton can do with another AA player and superstar like Riewoldt. :thumbsu:
