I was just listening to the 'Law Report' on Radio National & to my surprise the first item is about old Tredders.

He's trying to get out of paying money he owes to channel 9 by claiming only silver & gold is legal tender. And that Warren Tredrea is a fictional entity, so cannot be sued.

But he says he's definitely not a sovereign citizen. Or a cooker. Definitely not.

And he’s on the board of the PAFC…

Give for value, receive for value, Admiralty Court, I don't consent to being identified and know of no person of that name who exists.

A bargain for radio stations as special comments. If he doesn't believe in money, can't be paid.

They can pay him if.but they don't have enough gold to pay him in their petty cash gold box , a paper IOU should be ok. That's how things work in Australia. In Tredders Australia.

Tredders always pay for coffees, lawyers etc in raw gold? Or something . He was a very consistent goalkicker & I'm sure he's consistent in his financial dealings. These people are always so, so consistent.

Take someone to court because you want their money

Lose

Appeal because you REALLY want their money

Lose

Say you can’t pay money because x/y/z bullshit reason

I ****ing hate people like Tredrea

If he'd actually done the right thing in the first place, instead of being an ill-informed muppet, none of this ever would have happened.

A perfect example of how the traditional anti-vax raw milk ley-lines type are now aligning themselves with the far right.

My theory is that the world is so chaotic, first they try to control their own minds and bodies, then they graft onto any story that aligns with their experience of the world being a dark and mysterious place.

I just finished reading 'Jews don't count' by David Baddiel. As he describes, some of his relatives were wealthy factory owners and Zionists. It didn't protect them from the Nazis kicking their doors in and murdering them in concentration camps.

There's a lot of research into this.

People with few, or weak, ties to society (eg not a lot of friends, family unit not very cohesive etc) are susceptible to anti-vax, flat earth etc because it gives them a community to belong to, as well as a sense of having "special information" that makes them better than 'the rest'.

As you point out, it also gives them a sense of control and 'understanding' of a world that's otherwise meaningless and chaotic.

Easier (and less scary) to blame "a secret cabal of people controlling the world" than it is to face up to the reality - that we are alone in an uncaring universe and we have almost zero control over what happens to us.

Thanks for the book recommendation too - sounds like a solid read!

This 100%. Used to see this weird coalition of muppets in the Melbourne CBD during COVID. Gives them a sense of identity. Don't get me started.

Don Draper summed it up perfectly. this is a classic scene.

Spot on!

Yeah those CBD cookers, despite their protests, LOVED the pandemic - gave them something to live for and they're still going on about it all this time later

It’s simple psychological factors that drive us to our support of footy and sporting clubs

That sense of community and belonging it brings

I can’t remember where I read it but it was suggested that people who have mental health struggles can find it more difficult when the club or code they follow is in the off season because they loose that support network for that period And sadly for some that’s the only support network they might have

That's a really excellent point.

Must be extra hard for clubs that never see September action :P
