Does any other team in the AFL,have such an embarissing ex player.
Being an older fan ,i can remember him in his hayday.Great marks and goals, etc.
But now he is a joke.Lollipop traffic controller, meter maid, chucked off Big Brother, running for mayor.Latest,pr0n star! The media are loving this, and in every satirical report, the same thing comes up,Ex Swans player. This is correct
but, didnt he finish up at Brisbane Bears\ Lions,he left the Swans chasing dollars,
and is still chasing dollars. Sorry but my cattle dog has more brains!!!

wouldn't worry too much about the wock, he's a constant source of amusement....geelong have sam newman, and what about richmond and rex hunt?
actually, there's a fairly large contingent of geelong fans still ashamed at gary ablett snr's non-football career....and then there's that bloke cousins at west coast.....
i don't have a problem with capper

I think you will find he came home for the last season or two. But he did not have the same spark.

I think I said somewhere about his ability in the early days but now with this pr0n star thing, I am embarrassed for our club.

Pfft. I stopped being embarrassed by his antics years ago. This news doesn't even bother me. I disowned the "man" (not the "player") years ago. If he wants to be a tool all his life, then power to him.

But this is exactly the sort of stuff that set Aussie Rules back in Sydney for the better part of a decade in his wake. If you didn't live in Sydney during the "aerial ping-pong" "Aussie Rules is for ****ters" period you might not know just how much Capper in his tight little hotpants cost us as a club. :thumbsd:

I'll take the quiet, hard working, mullett wearers of the early 90's in Kel and co as the true code-builders in this state over the pink 80's brand nonsense any day. And when Plugger (and to a lesser extent Hall) came to town the jibes about how tough the game is just vanished off the radar once and for all. :thumbsu:

I wonder what they thought of soccer

Mate you can take the mullet wearing days of the early 90s all you like, the early 90s are what really cost us because we were losers on the field. Kell and Lewis aside it was an era I hate. Say what you like about Capper of the 80s but he could take marks kick goals and excite a crowd, in the early 90s we had nothing but Kelly and maybe a couple of promising youngersters like Dale Lewis.

You are right to hate the early 90's. But the 90's were so bad because the 80's were all hot air and no substance. And it was in those painful years after Capper and and the rolling circus left town that the genuine growth of the club occurred. Because once the hype died down, and the free tickets stopped getting handed around we were left in a state of septic shock that took the better part of a decade to overcome.

Where was the development behind all the razamataz? All we got was 2 years of glitz, a bankrupt for an owner and a pretty logo. And once it was gone there was precious little else. No grassroots support. No sponsorship money. No media interest. The Victorian clubs didn't give a stuff because they already had their money from the deal to move us up here. And there was no revenue in the club. :thumbsd:

The fact that the founding principles of the organisation were all about marketing and little else was made even worse because the marketing plan they came up with in the 80's was an abject failure. Sydneysiders simply didn't buy the pink sports cars at all. It really said more about how Victorians saw the people of Sydney and how gullible they took us for. And for years the glitzy flash in the pan period actually led to more potential fans staying away from the Sydney Swans and Aussie Rules than anything else.

Thank God for QBE and Willisee and his mates, that's all I can say. :thumbsu:

I know you are correct about the razzamatazz leading to no grass roots support and effecting us in the 90s. I have nothing against the early theatre goers though it did introduce some to football who became fans later on. There were also Gerard Healy and Dennis Caroll, those guys did not sink the deserting ship god love em.

I guess I'm generally trying to say though is Capper was not an enigma just for a few moments. The guy could genuinely play and played with substance. He had a few selfish moments but hey he was a full forward .

The number of goals kicked and marks taken were not of someone who embarrassed me (but hey I was pretty young) and he did promote football
and I don’t think it was all bad for the swans, it was the F&*K nuts who ran the club for their ego who screwed the club.

I also think Capper was a product of our junior system and I really think he lost his way when he left Sydney and went to the Bears. The other players hated his guts and they were as big a private play thing as we were and with no club support a guy like Capper, who has little intelligence, lost his direction.

By the time he came home we were much the same with little direction of where we going and a SHITE playing list and no player support and he was just as miserable back at the swans again than at the lions.

I forgive Capper much because I accept he is as think as a plank and I do remember some good times at the swans with Warwick... but the pr0n star bit is going too far.

sadly, there's a huge contingent of victorian football fans who STILL look at the swans and sydney supporters the same way....

I think you pretty much sum up my attitude to Warwick. He was a marvel to watch. But these days I prefer to try and only think about his "onfield" performances. Can't fault a bloke who kicks 100 goals for you in a season!!!

Yes but there is a huge contingent of old South supporters and newer swans supporters who live in Victoria and I can say from personal experience that people respect us, the club and the players and I've never been treated any different to any other club supporter.

good luck to you....i've actually been told to butt out of certain footy conversations between fans of vic clubs because "you're from sydney, you don't know anything about football"
