after reading Bradleys statement i am not convinced the decision was left to him....more like the board told him to retire so that mckay could be put on hte veterans list.....another example of elliot stuffing up the club

How is it stuffing up the club?

I wish Braddles were to go on for just one more year, but I think even he realised the financial situation of Carlton. Myabe the fact that he wanted to do this for the good of the club pushed him? Remeber, it was entirely Braddles' decision. With all this salary cap drama, it's possible.

His leadership and experience will be sorely missed, but I hope he gets a coaching role.

I have a sneaking suspision that he was pushed. Maybe he wasn't pushed directly, but he was helped through the door if you get what i mean.

His statement was very strange. "I believe i can contribute to the club next season. Secondly, i'm announcing my retirement"

WTF???

IF he was pushed, maybe that first line was a bit of a retaliation of sorts.

I dont think we'll ever know unless one of the parties involved comes out and states what happens.

I heard his manager state on 3aw tonight that C.F.C left the decision up to bradley .

Bradley has been a great stalwart for the club so even if he was pushed i dont think he would come out and say that. He's that type of person i recokn. The last thing he would want to would create bad controversy around the club.

Well Braddles himself said that Denis left the decision to play on to him, so I doubt he would've been nudged out of the door. Maybe Braddles took in other factors (finances, youth etc.) instead of just form when making his decision, but I'm sure he would have had the final call on 2003.

The guy is 39 after all. If he was "pushed", it's not like he is 29 and still has plenty of footy ahead of him. 39 is old enough in my book, couldn't blame the Blues if they did bump him off, but I don't think they would do that with a champion such as Bradley!

"I believe i can contribute to the club next season. Secondly, i'm announcing my retirement"

He means he is leaving on a high note, instead of leaving because he can't play anymore.

I suspect he wouldn't have minded playing on, but in the absence of club officials begging him to come back, he took the hint and retired. At least he got to have the final say. Very sad when legendary players have to be booted out.

Geof Motley (his manager) was quoted 2 weeks ago saying something like: "if Carlton asks him to play on he'll play on. If they defer to him and tell him its his decision he'll probably give it away". I reckon knowing this Cartlon took the latter option. Bradley wanted to be asked to play on. He wasn't. End of story.
