And I like th eidea of having Hentschel on the field because it will provide him with the experience and will do wonders to his development. No use to him playing cameo roles of the pine at tis stage of his development. We must find a spot in the 18 for Reilly and Hentschel even if its at the expense of a more exprienced player.
No problems with both Hentschell and Reilly starting the season opener in the team.
Depending on matchups, Hentschell is most likely to run off HBF.
If Massie takes the other HBF, where does that leave Torney?

Back pocket??????

He is also capable of rotating through the midfield. Either way he is too good a player to have outside of our 22.

the Eagles intensity was deplorable apart from the first ten minutes of the third quarter. Seemed strange to me that so close to the season they would be happy with such a performance.

Crows forward line had Welsh and Hentshcell leading out of the square, Carey McLeod and Johncok on the half forward line and Stevens playing in teh gap between the two.

Reilly's first quarter was awesome. He was everywhere and beat his man in every constest. Shame about his injury.

Scott Stevens had an excellent first half and showed that he can be a real help up forward this year. Sure he faded from the game but that's to be expected.

Ben Hart was awesome in defence and the whole back six looked solid as a rock.

Massie had another excellent game, eaisly beating Sampi.

Smart looked to be getting back to his old self though he can't kick goals from 50 on the run anymore.

Goodwin dominated the midfield but his disposal is still nothing short of shocking. Long bombs into the forward line was his norm.

Roo had a good game but his kicking for goal was off. Hopefully only a minor blip.

Hudson is a real goer. Plenty of courage and can take a mark. In my view would be a chance for round one. Biglands or Clarke can go in my view - radical I know.

Torney did some nice stuff when he cam on

The forward line in general led quite well but they dropped many makrs they should have taken. the reason they led wide was because West Coast blocke the space straight down the groun and therefore all th space was on the flanks to lead into

Welsh and Bode were excellent in their desperation and tackling.

Burton had a poor game on the wing and played some dumb football.

Doughty was excellen when he came on and sued the ball really well.

Thought Schuback was quiet but it was hard to pick him up without the blond hair.

And that's antoher thing, Welsh (mullet) McGregor (afro) and Ben Hart (god know's what) all need to go to the hairdresser before the season starts. Terrible stuff.:D

That's terrible! Welshy better cut that, or else he'll end up looking like Dizzy Gillespie with straight hair ... :p

Good to think outside the square, but what could Hudson do at CHF that Perrie couldn't do? Perrie showed us last year he could play as a key forward & has put in a big pre-season. We should persist with him. I like the idea of having Hentschel on the bench as he gives us an option both in defence & attack.
Can't write Perrie off based on his form to date.
Remember the side is not as advanced as last year, and Perrie has been played so far, spells in the backline, where he is not good.
His efforts last year and in PS deserve more support, than some of us are giving him.

Burton is an athlete first, footballer second. He has always taken a few games to find some form. Thats why he plays in the SANFL when returning from injury, rather than straight into the senior side.

He played every game except the one against Eagles up forward. He was only played as a defender in a hope to find some form by getting his hands on the footy.

This year he can't hold a mark to save his life. I am really looking forward to this saturday. It will be interesting to see if Perrie starts up forward again with Hentschel set to miss with an injury.

I think this game against Port is last chance fro Perrie to hold his spot in the 22 come round 1. We talk about not rewarding mediocrity. If Perrie doesn't fire against Port there is no way that he should be given a game come round 1 in front of Hentschel or Hudson who to date have been much better and far more consistent.

Perrie gets his chance this week.

He's good enough if he just forgets Carey's on the oval and just keeps leading and demanding the ball.

Last year he was the ugly duckling that finally blossomed. I don't want him to become the ugly duckling again.

I genuinely hope he does well.

macca23, would you say he is in real danger of missing out on round 1 if he doesn't fire against Port?

He'd be on real shaky ground.

Ayres was making a statement on his form by not starting him against West Coast and banishing him to the backlines when he did get a run.

Hentschel will be available for round 1 and his form has been good.

Yep, I'd say that he would be in genuine danger of missing out against the Roos with a bad one this week.

I had reasonable expectations of Perrie (not as high as some) this year but so far this season (Apart from the Norwood trial) he has not been a shadow of himself from last year.

I really hope he fires against Port because I think we really need him this year. More so than ever before.

I think Carey will be quiet against Port as he usually struggles against quality opponent and Chad will expose his lack of overhead marking ability. As a result it is really up to Perrie and Scott Stevens (more so Perrie) to really step up and be the focal point for us up forward. If Sarge can get back into form it will be a huge boost to his confidence and a big plus for us going into the season.

PS. Are you going to the trial macca23??????

I had high hopes - really high hopes - for Perrie after an excellent pre-season which he then carried on into the Norwood trial game. That was followed up by 2 abysmal efforts. With Stevo gone we need him to stand up and produce.

No, I won't be going this week Stiffy. The lure of the pies and pasties has nearly got me in several times so far this week, but I'll be going out on Saturday night so that's that.

If you or anyone else is going I'm sure everyone would appreciate them posting their report on the game.

I am planning to go. I picked up my tickets today so unless something comes up between now and saturday morning I will be going.

I will try my best in letting everyone know how our players performed but I doubt my reporting will be up to high standards that this board has come to expect thanks to your good self :)
