I think his performances are very overrated like Dangerfield, especially when you look at his kicking. Still a good player, but would still find it tough to get a run through Hawthorns midfield.
Yeah, the AFL's leading clearance and contested possession winner, who kicked 29 goals and averaged 28.3 touches and 5 tackles per game, and who broke the record for votes in his Premiership-winning club's B&F, beating the next best by 172 votes (a 24% differential.... think about that for a minute), would find it tough to get a run through Hawthorn's midfield..... right.
Also, you're way behind the times with his kicking. When he first came to the club, it was a little dodgy, which may have been because he tended to put himself under pressure (not the quickest guy in the world). His awareness is much better now, and his kicking is fine, especially for goal (29 goals 13).
Finally, Dangerfield is not overrated. There's hype that exceeds his performances, but this is based on the fact that he's still young and will only get better. He is a ridiculously good player though. I didn't rate him that highly about 18 months ago, I scoffed at suggestions he'll be elite, but **** me am I eating my words.
But anyway, back on topic, best ever trade? Well, it's not unique, and it's hard to quantify these things. But it's fair to say it's up there. But we all know Hawthorn's reasoning, and at the time, while it seemed cheap, nobody could have predicted how Kennedy Jr would turn out.
