You got lost on your way to the Bay, Same situation as Mumford, Kennedy was getting games, however was offered more money, Contracts and to slot straight into the middle rather then a rotating on a flank. Told hawthorn he wanted it to further his career, Would of been labeled as pricks to keep him. Turns out he turned into a brilliant footballer as half of hawthorn probably knew he was going to
He got offered a 3 year contract and the offer of a spot in the midfield it wasn't for money. Everbody has a crack at us about Mumford he was offered a mill over 4 years you do the maths that ain't huge dollars!

I know all this, still it must hurt Hawks fans a little knowing that he was instrumental in denying them a premiership...how can they say they have no regrets about that? I know it felt that when when Williams was tearing us up in the 95 GF...slightly different circumstances but essentially the same

Neville fields to south for Terry and Neale Daniher.
Terry premiership captain 3 x All Australian incl captain league MVP
Neale b&f at 19 before being cut down by injury.
This led to Anthony also coming to Essendon - also All Australian and now means we get Joe.
The gift that keeps giving.

Think we ended up with the pick that turned out to be Ben Stratton for JK3. Stratton is a gun defender but lets be honest, the Swannies have come up well infront there. Love that Joey has turned out to be the player every Hawk fan hoped he would be, enjoy how he plays his footy its just a shame he's in red and white. Hats off to the Swans recruiters, saw what HFC apparently hadn't and landed themselves a beauty. He is a Swan for life now if you ask me.

On the great trades front I think we did pretty well in 2001.

Managed to convince Freo to take Croad & McPharlin for picks 1, 20 & 36 in the superdraft. We end up with a Norm Smith Medallist at 1 & a premiership captain at 36. Both 200 game players and greats of our club. McPharlin still dominating so it really was a win/win for both.

I think his performances are very overrated like Dangerfield, especially when you look at his kicking. Still a good player, but would still find it tough to get a run through Hawthorns midfield.
Wow, for someone who's commented on this site over 15,000 times, you clearly know nothing about football. I'm pretty confident any Hawthorn supporter would love to have Kennedy or Dangerfield in their guts.

You got Grimley for Josh, and Stratton for McGlynn.

Haha, Bradesmaen rubbishing Dangerfield again. I guess the only thing that's new, is he's now rubbishing another of the leagues best midfielders. Are you mad that both players are better than anybody in Fremantle's midfield?

You missed the fact that all this led to Chris coming to Windy Hill as well and playing in the 1993 premiership as well....To quote Elle McFeast....God bless Edna Daniher....And the swans...

Josh Kennedy was always a work in progress at Hawthorn - fairly typical of many young players. I still can't believe that Hawthorn would trade him anywhere - especially if you compare son to father who, I seem to recall, took a while to develope into the great player he became. What a tacky way to treat a third generation Hawk ! There's clearly no emotional attachments at Hawthorn !
Sheedy wanted to shed Jobe Watson - but there would have been strong opposition against him if he had succeeded. Thank God we got rid of him and kept the player.

I can't believe how often this gets talked about.

He was always going to be a good player, unfortunately money talks. Once he committed to leaving was Hawthorn meant to force him into the PSD?

Add to this the Swans had just signed John Murphy a star centreman with Fitzroy. What the hell were they doing still chasing Nifty Neville - who they didn't need ?
Turn the clock forward a few years - Anthony Daniher was approached by Essendon - the Swans found out about it and the Dons were fined a small amount for attempted poaching. (Oh yes, you may laugh - but it's true!) Along comes Tom Hafey to coach Sydney and as he doesn't have a recognised chf, he plays Anthony Daniher there and then delists him at season's end. No-one tells the Daniher family this - so Anthony heads off on his post season players trip. Another family member who is involved with the AFL in NSW informs Daniher Snr of the situation, and he contacts Essendon. The rest is history.
In another twenty years when Josh kennedy's son wants to try out for the AFL - Sydney will be the club of choice, and Hawthorn will be left to ponder...if only.

I think his performances are very overrated like Dangerfield, especially when you look at his kicking. Still a good player, but would still find it tough to get a run through Hawthorns midfield.
Yeah, the AFL's leading clearance and contested possession winner, who kicked 29 goals and averaged 28.3 touches and 5 tackles per game, and who broke the record for votes in his Premiership-winning club's B&F, beating the next best by 172 votes (a 24% differential.... think about that for a minute), would find it tough to get a run through Hawthorn's midfield..... right.

Also, you're way behind the times with his kicking. When he first came to the club, it was a little dodgy, which may have been because he tended to put himself under pressure (not the quickest guy in the world). His awareness is much better now, and his kicking is fine, especially for goal (29 goals 13).

Finally, Dangerfield is not overrated. There's hype that exceeds his performances, but this is based on the fact that he's still young and will only get better. He is a ridiculously good player though. I didn't rate him that highly about 18 months ago, I scoffed at suggestions he'll be elite, but **** me am I eating my words.

But anyway, back on topic, best ever trade? Well, it's not unique, and it's hard to quantify these things. But it's fair to say it's up there. But we all know Hawthorn's reasoning, and at the time, while it seemed cheap, nobody could have predicted how Kennedy Jr would turn out.
