Counting out 50m within a 50m arc is not.
when he payed the decision, shagger was outside the 50m arc, so in the heat of the moment he counted from outside the 50 where grant and h.shaw were when the decision was payed, wrong yes but how often do umpires ever actually get the 50m penalty exactly right??

Of course Grant should have kicked the goal but he didn't, and if the man was on the goal line he would have.

Simple.
not so simple, grant was being a tool and trying to smash the ball out of the ground..........thank christ we have a reliable leader slot a pressure goal up the other end in sir scott burns........gaurantee a.simpson wouldn't have tried to be a hero and samsh the ball out of the ground

shagger was being a ******** and he payed the price

The same umpire paid the mark! Does he have the short term memory of a fish?

There is a difference between measuring out a 50m penalty of the wing and measuring one out if the forward 50....don't you think? The ****ing lines are drawn for him!

I agree Grant tried to kick it over the grandstand. I agree he should have kicked it from 15m out. But if the umpire had of correctly measured out the 50m (as we were entitled) he would have kicked the goal with the exact same shanked hero kick and we would have won IMO.

I'm over it - if we had of kicked straight earlier we would have blown the game out of the water, but it is pretty cut and dry that we were robbed of that goal regardless of whther Grant should have kicked it anyway.

dont know the bloke, yes he should have remembered that grant took the mark inside 50, clearly he didn't....oh well u win some, u lose some

you would think it is easier, but sometimes u get caught up with the game to realise what at the time would usually be a minor detail, should be easier but then again the square itself is 45m in length so that should make things easier around the ground, but it doesn't seem to help......still have short 50m's like the archer one

still may have missed, people have missed from in the goal square before, usually as they try and kick it too hard, just like grant

exactly a big non-event, north fans should move on from what must have been a bitter loss, instead of holding on to something that isn't going to help them

they outplayed a side from last years finals for 3 quarters and a few youngsters looked good, mcintosh in particular!! not all sad and sorry and kanga land

Totally different. The Leon Davis decision/non-decision is open to interpretation.
A side-bump over the shoulder is open to interpretation?

I thought the interpretation was supposed to be that any head-high bump was reportable...

It was an obvious umpiring error, but having said that North will be kicking themselves for squandering a heap of opportunities, and allowing a low-talent, slow old side like the Pies to get across the line. The result really doesn't mean much - both look like being solid bottom 4 sides for the next few years at least. :)

Not really. Grant had an extremely easy chance of winning the game and blew it big time. The umps unfairly made it a slightly tougher chance than it should have been, but in the end you miss that and you don't deserve to win

Kangaroos should have won by 5 goals. Collingwood played their worst 3 quarters in 2 years yet still won. Kangaroos are a rabble. Wooden Spooners 2007 :)
You won by 3 points against a team playing their most inexperienced side in 5 years, containing 4 debutantes.

Looks like you're in for a long hard season. But you guys are used to that at Pie land.

Why? Unlike teams such as Fremantle, Adelaide and Richmond who put in dismal performances against teams from the bottom 5 last year, we played absolutely horribly and still managed to win.

Obviously there's improvement to be had from here. No team goes out and performs to the best of their ability every week, with the start of the season often being particularly hard to get rolling for.

The way I see it, we can only play better football from here on, because we couldn't play any worse, and we still picked up the 4 points.

The ultimate sour grapes argument is "you barely even beat us" - I'll take 22 "barely gotten" wins each year...

Is it?

Strange that Collingwood supporters are defending the decision with the "Grant should have kicked it" retort. What that has to do with a blatant (AFL admitted) stuff up I don't know. Take the 4 points and move on. You were lucky to get them and if we hadn't have handed them to you with a 10.19 scoreline you wouldn't have. End of debate AFAIC.

We were the victims of an AFL admitted stuff-up too - Jess Sinclair was suspended for bumping Ryan Lonie off the play, while we weren't even awarded the free kick.

Mistakes happen - Whether it was the first quarter or the last, a mistake is a mistake.
