Not a breakout game for mine but a step in the right direction. The real test begins now in the next 6-8 weeks with Wines on the sidelines. It's a challenge not only for Youngy, but Moore & Ah Chee as well. Now is there moment to shine and prove their coaches, peers, critics, and most importantly themselves that they truly belong at this level. Belief is everything.

Switching out of the midfield and going forward for little stints I wanna see more of too... takes a nice grab, wirey and tallish for a mid.
Yep. I see him in the same role I see Gray, really. Midfield with the ability to switch forward. He's good a good goal sense and gets in good positions in the forward 50. He doesn't have all the talent that Gray has, the things he's good at doing can make him a very effective footballer. Hopefully he's in the side all year.

He is an absolute mystery as to what his ceiling is.
A complete unknown really. He's never done much wrong and has always shown a bit every time he has played but his lack of continuity at AFL level plus being the sub on a lot of occasions makes it hard to assess exactly where he fits into the broader team picture. Hopefully for his sake this is a defining year.

I don't know if it was a break out, but it will do absolutely no favours to the "Port have no depth lol" opinion that has been prevalent since the NAB Richmond game.

As far as I'm concerned he'd already made his name, but then been cruelled with a long layoff with injury. He played well, but no better than we already knew he could. I've been a fan for a while.

Moore can't do the same, he's a handy backup player but not a potential 1st 22.
I think Moore is quite possibly the better overall player, but in terms of fitting into the side providing what we need Young is the man to pick at the moment.

By that I mean I think Young is the better 'fringe player' to compliment Boak, Gray and co. If you put Moore in a side not as blessed with midfield options I think he'd be a high 20 disposal average a game type as he'd respond positively to being the main man. With the aforementioned established players plus Ollie standing at stoppages Moore kind of stands at the fringes in a 'I'm not really sure where I fit in here' kind of way. From the outside it seems he needs more of a defined role in there and I suppose it's bad luck for him that we have guys who are superior to him at the role he'd be best suited.

Similar to the Newton/Mitchell conundrum that played out last season.

Critically he got his possession count to 25- first time in the 20s ever.

I'm going to call it, this was his breakout game. Similar to Wingard v Brisbane back in 2012- nothing overly conspicuous but being able to prove his ability to accumulate possessions to AFL standard midfield levels is a huge step and one of the only things holding Aaron back. Massive for him.

Impressed with the way he gets the hard ball, frees up his arms and gets the ball to our advantage.
Has put himself way in front of Moore now. Sadly Moores silly mistake last week might mean a long time before he gets another shot now.

I said it earlier in the thread that it wasn't his breakout game but what he could produce if he gets given full game time & was correct because the next week he plays even better against a tougher opponent.

I love the way he goes about his footy, plays a Sloane-esque style the way he gets his arms free to release a handball to a teammate in space.

I hope he doesnt lose his spot if gray comes back and i guess when ollie makes a return
No way Aaron won't be playing in the Showdown next week.
You're only as good as you last game and Young's against the Hawks was so influential to our success.
