I like Young and he has some traits that are close to elite but can see why Kern has said in the past that he is just short of being in our starting mids.
Hard to pin down exactly what is missing but it has to do with being a fair way behind Ebert and others in that hard non stop two way running and providing options, BUT he has improved in each and every year and will get there.
However, when he does look out as he has that Ablettesque buttocks strength to shake off tackles when he has no right to do so.

Not sure. When Wines returns Young will be competing with players for outside roles. Need to add a lit more running to his game but gee if he does he could end up a real beauty.
I see it from the view he is ideal to rotate through the midfield with everyone fit, he can go forward for stints as well you don't drop blokes with natural ball winning ability in the stoppages... if i see him dropped for Neade or to keep say Mitchell in the side i'll lose my shit.

When Wines returns, Mitchell will go out before Young. We'll likely have other injuries anyway so it's not really something we need to think about for another month.

Obviously exciting for him personally as a young man making his way and playing some great football. Even better to emphasize the depth that we supposedly don't have. If anything, that is the one thing that sides like Hawthorn still have over us, too many guys that can tear us apart if left unchecked. It is good to know that this is starting to change and that when we have all hands on deck that we will have too many good players that you can't tag them all.

Port Adelaide’s Aaron Young taking his chances
AFTER five years of constantly yo-yoing in and out of Port Adelaide’s side, Aaron Young is doing everything possible to make this stay permanent.

Handed his opportunity two weeks ago against North Melbourne with the Power under the pump at 0-2 and being criticised of not winning the hard ball, Young was exactly what they needed.
In his two games he’s averaged 22 disposals, kicked two goals and laid nine tackles - including a crucial one mid-way through the final term on Saturday night - and the Power has won both.
On Saturday night against Hawthorn he was at his best, winning clearances, tackling, chasing and harassing the opposition.
