I think Gaff should get 15+, however I predict that the tribunal will give 4-5.
The reason is twofold:
1. The AFL love to hog the news cycle. Having Gaff available for a Grand Final would infuriate the public and cause a media storm on GF week. Bad publicity is better than no publicity.
2. People should not forget that this is the Eagles here. Their favourable treatment from umpires and officialdom is well known.
Sadly, I think that the only thing that will make the AFL deal with incidents like these properly is a Coroner's Report.

You know, the way the incident happened, the crowds reaction (a lot of members knew exactly what had happened by the time gaff haf kicked his goal) & more disturbingly the clubs reaction since. I would support criminal charges. If this happened in the suburbs there would be charges. So why not so called professional sport. Set the bar properly.
Brayshaw would have to be the one to say yes to pressing charges.

I hope he does. If not only to send a message to the AFL that they need to do more to stamp out intentional swings off the ball.

"The police will often look at the governing body, the disciplinary process, and if they think that process is sufficiently robust, the penalties are there and it's being applied properly they will often defer to that sporting organisation and respect its autonomy to run its own affairs"

Would the police act on an AFL punch?

And that's the bottom line.

Not quite the bottom line.

A man who steps onto the footy field does not agree to be a subject of criminal assault. He agrees to be subject to the rules and the violence and danger which are inherent in those rules. And sporting bodies are trusted to administer those rules.

Incidents, such as fights and punches, are always subject to potential criminal review, even when penalised by the sporting body. It is simply the case that when the assault is minor in effort or consequence then the public prosecutor is willing to defer to the sporting body (assuming the body honours its responsibilities, etc). A (potential) assault as serious as this, causing bleeding outside the body, could be a serious crime indeed. The police need not defer to the AFL as the sum total of action on this event.

IMO only.

15 + So when Dean Solomon KO's Ling you think 8 weeks was fair? What about Barry Hall KO' Staker and got 7 weeks?. Mate we are not defending his actions, he will get punished, let the tribunal do their job. Gaff does deserve to get punished if he misses out on a grand final good, you pay the consequences for your actions.

Nah , he might have enough trouble moving on as it is and by doing that you just know eventually it would turn around and he would be seen as ' the dog ' copping it every game by oppo players

Fair enough, you can think that

Just like I can think you are lying because I don't buy that none of you questioned once why gaff was in tears and what triggered it, and why Brayshaw was gone and not on the bench
Footy crowds over here are no different to anywhere else regarding the use of social media and radio's while a game is on.

The notion by theses clowns that no one had any idea what happened is a load of old tosh,

I was working while the game was on and had the radio going, I knew instantly what happened the commentators were all blabbering about his Brownlow chances up in smoke

So your not the one who was crying out for violence in a game day thread, saying how you wanted your players to injure WC players at all cost?
Lol what has that got to do with the commissioner looking into a cowardly king hit behind the play, are you suggesting the police should look into Wals quote on BF lol.

Yeah, because you had the radio on... Didn't realise there was live commentary at the game.

Take a step back to understand the meaning of the article to which it states that the police will often look at the governing body.........they will often defer to that sporting organisation and respect its autonomy to run its own affairs. Which doesn't imply or state - the police will ALWAYS or NEVER.

Separate the emotion from the incident and put things into perspective with what I responded to another poster earlier with;

police investigate and forward to the DPP who decide whether or not there is sufficient grounds pursuant to the crimes act WA to take the matter to court.

Personally I feel that Gaff was intending for a punch to the side of chest like what happens normally during a game
Still a stupid and unnecessary thing to do and this is partly the AFL's fault for never stamping out such behaviour. As seen here all it takes is for a player to slip or make an unpredictable movement and a serious injury can occur. Have never liked the look of players punching each other to put their opponent off.

EDIT: Or the pushing and shoving for that matter which from the footage I saw led to this.

Yes, and i would hate for him to be pushed into it. But i would support his decision either way.

so from this thread we can conclusively say that Gaff's punishment will range somewhere between 0 weeks and a life sentence/being banned from AFL

I reckon 99.9% of WC fans would accept this. Stupid thing to do, dangerous thing to do and he'll cop a hefty suspension because of it.

From my POV it's the OTT stuff above and beyond that which is grating.

I would say in the 60 minutes to the end of the game everybody there new something untoward had happened.
