On Fox Footy last night they showed the game against Carlton at the Gabba from late in 2008 when both of us were pushing for the eight. We went from behind at half time to 30 odd points up at three quarter time on the back of some pretty impressive football from Brown, Black and Bradshaw but also the likes of Sherman, Corrie, Hooper, Dalziell, Brennan and MacDonald. Even Hawksley showed a bit. Then came the final quarter and we hardly gave a yelp and Carlton ran all over us. It instantly reminds you why so many of that particular group never made it. It was also Hanley's first game and he made some fantastic clangers. How things have changed.

Wouldn't say Hanley is our most damaging midfielder just yet. He has shown glimpses yes but so has Rich who I think i probably our most damaging player when he plays well. Hanley needs to get the pill a bit more and it would be great if he can get those extra touches forwrd of centre but I like what he has to offer. Still learning the game and so I'm hoping this season is his break out year especially with a full strength squad he can work off. Here's hoping to AA selection for Hanley. :thumbsu:

I would say Hanley is already our most damaging footballer in an offensive sense. Certainly our most creative. Even when playing on a half back flank, most of our most best attacking thrusts, pass through Hanley.

Yeah I agree but I just think Rich when he plays at his absolute peak is more damaging than Hanley. Rich for some strange reason always plays his best games of the year during the final round... his bullet passes are something opposition just can't counter and I don't think Hanley has that ability to have a weapon that is unplayable. If I had to choose between the two players I'd pick Hanley every day though as he is more consistent and can break lines better than Rich could dream of.

this every game and we will make finals

Allow me to go back a bit further...

  • I think once Des Headland went to Freo he wasted his potential big time.
  • Adam Heuskes was good but nowhere near his potential.
  • I remember thinking that Richard Hadley was going to be an absolute gun. Should have done more!
  • Jason Gram got about 20 minutes game time with us, got traded and then was equal top vote getter in the 2009 GF.

Seems a pretty common story of either injuries or off the field idiocy getting in the way.
