Not a good selection by the Hawks, we really need to work harder in this area.
Not a great selection. but Clinton Young has turned out ok... can't win them all ;) .

I'm still hoping that somehow Kirkby stays on our rookie list, but it doesn't look likely at this stage.

After being rookie listed and refusing to play for the club does this mean he will be penalised by the AFL, or is it Hawthorns bad luck/stupidity for not reaching an agreement with him prior to rookie listing him?
Big move to relocate from Perth on a rookie salary, but a move you'd expect a kid comitted to his AFL career to make.

Never signed a contract.

Need to check these detailed before drafting kids honestly. Unless Willday said he would come and then changed his mind, we made a blunder.

I recall thinking at the time we selected him that it would be a risk selecting a lad from WA on the Rookie List, but I hadn't realised he didn't at least give himself a chance with the Hawks.

What he has done now is place severe limits on his drafting potential. Only 2 clubs (West Coast and Freo) would seriously look at him, and if they aren't interested he's dead in the water as far as AFL is concerned. He would have been better off having a year with Box Hill and allowing people to notice him.

I think he wanted to stay because of uni. Or that is what he said.

Unbelievable when you consider the number of kids who would be desperate to taste the AFL environment. I would have defered uni if I had to! He really must not have cared much at all.

Spot on. I'm pretty sure it was an engineering course? We have engineering over this side of the country too...

Completely farcical when you think about the amount of kids that miss out. That spot could have gone to a kid that would bust his gut for a crack at AFL footy. If you don't want to play AFL footy, don't nominate for the draft.
