Waters will get 1 week , contact was high ,... yes but it was not intentional , there was no way he could avoid the clash . Merely a clash of bodies where the opposition player normally comes out 2nd , if Beau is involved .

solely because Waters moved his head to avoid head to head contact and Watson wasn't low over the ball, he was in normal running/avoidance mode when he ran into Waters and made contact with Waters shoulder

This is the key IMO and if WCE don't appeal a penalty greater than 1 week, I'll be disappointed.

Was going to post this on the main board but this is probably a better place to sound this out.

This incident has pointed out a glaring error in the way incidents are viewed IMHO.

We all tend to agree that the Waters hit was a complete accident and there was no way he could have avoided head high contact with Watson.

Now if a player is going for a mark and collects a player in front with his knee or elbow (seems to be whether he takes the mark or not) there is quite often not even a free kick let alone a report. Many times a player hase been knocked out cold by a players knee or elbow in a marking contest and nothing.
Can someone possibly tell me why the two tyoes of incidents are viewed so differently??

I can't see how Waters can get a week - it's not how the MRP works

IMO - he'll either get nothing or he'll get 3 weeks down to 2.

The contact was high, the impact would be high as well given Jobe was concussed and missed the rest of the game.

So if it's negligent - then that's 325 points. If it's not negligent then that's 0 points.

Which is ridiculous - and quite likely to change next year as the AFL has received feedback from all clubs that a player's intent isn't weighted fairly enough.

If he gets offered 3 down to 2 - would you risk Beau not being available against a seasoned Collingwood in Rd 1 of the finals - so that he can be available for Adelaide in Rd 24?

I appreciate he needs match fitness - but it's too big a risk IMO

You're probably right. Is Waters eligible for the guilt-plea discount?

A great bump that will probably get him 2 weeks, ****ing soft mrp :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

I don't even think he was bumping, they both sorta just got to the ball at the same time, and Jobe was a bit lower. Definitely a free kick, because you should reward the bloke going low and hard at the footy (despite what the HTB rule is trying to do), but Beau shouldn't be punished for it.

In saying that, I think he will get 3 weeks.

Yeah shoulder to the head, nothing in it. Watson should be done for charging.

No but it would have been shoulder to shoulder if Watson didn't change direction at the last nano second. Waters braced for the impact he didn't charge him, Watson was the one in motion and caused the contact to be made where it was.
Hate to see it as I really rate and like Watson but it was just an unfortunate injury caused in the heat of battle in fair play.

Don't know if this has been posted:
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/waters-hocking-face-suspensions-20110821-1j4xl.html#poll

and don't know how to quote it. But it says he'll get probably get three (reduced to 2 will early plea) if it's high impact, or 2 (down to 1) if it's medium. So he'll be back to share in our defeat of Collingwood in a couple of weeks at worst it would seem.

There's something wrong with the system when Waters gets 2 weeks for an accident, whereas Davey doesn't get cited for a deliberate elbow to Morton's head. Even if it is Morton.

This is it. It wasn't really a bump, just a collision. It was a free kick and nothing more. He should get off, I can't believe anyone would want to see a player get suspended for that.

Just out of interest, did Heath Hocking get cited for the spear tackle on Daniel Kerr?

If Waters goes, then by god so should he.

Forgot about the Davey one, so out of character but so deliberate. It had the potential to do so much damage.
Because the AFL has this mindset of not really worrying about intent or potential but only care about the outcome injury Waters will go for a couple and Davey will be lucky to be cited.

It's an absolute farce when you look at the big picture where the AFL want to stamp deliberate harmful acts out of the game but the guy's who accidentaly cause injury by just standing there ground or not teleporting out of the way of an oncoming player with their head down gets done. Snipers who deliberate try to cause injury but just miss or even make contact but no major injury caused get nothing, oh and don't get me started on accidental umpire contact:mad:

Hocking's was a sling tackle. Nathan Lovett-Murray hit Kerr with something that resembled a spear tackle on the first replay, but the highlights package for the game has a different camera angle and it looks much more benign.

Video review won't be announced for another couple of hours. There was no match day report on Hocking.
