But Cotchin and Mitchell will not have fulfilled the best & fairest criteria. Merely the 2nd best but fairest.

If in some crazy world Watson loses his Brownlow, and for future cases, they shouldn't award a Brownlow to initial 2nd places.
Now go tell this to Robert Harvey.

How about we wait and see exactly what Hird knew or was doing before being disappointed.

Regrettably, I don't think it is going to matter what Hird knew. The unfortunate thing is, fairly or otherwise, this happened on his watch. If Essendon did have a systematic doping program there is no saving Hird. While all evidence suggests that they did have such a program, we do need to wait for the outcome of the various investigations before pointing too many fingers.

As for the Brownlow, it would seem entirely unjust. Watson is a tribute to himself and a great story in this game. If he did take a compound that was banned by WADA, he will need to give his medal back. If he did not take a banned substance, he will keep his medal regardless of what other team members were doing. I think if you look at historical drug bans, this is the case.

It isn't just a matter of my belief, its the wording of the award.

If others wish to pervert it, award on different criteria, normalise contrasting value systems to the one the award was created under; its they that have it incorrect.

What I was saying is the awards given to the best player of that year who's happened to pull his head in enough that year to not get suspended, but if you look at past winners there's quite a few rough nuts that haven't exactly been fair over the duration of their careers. I always find it amusing seeing their names against the word fair.

Yeah, I know that's what you were saying.:thumbsu:

But I wanted to make the point that fairness is actually more important than winning. In fact if you don't win fair, what is the point?

In any case, Jobe is one guy who does not deserve it.

I can agree with that. Jobe is a great guy. I find it hard to believe that he knowingly took a banned substance.
I hope to hell that if someone has given players something without their knowledge then those responsible end up in jail.
This has gone way beyond obtaining an advantage in sport.

Tell that to Corey Mckernan and Chris Grant

Undeserved. The drugs Jobe shelved in 2012 turned him from spud to superstar, without Dank he will be a Marc Murphy like crab in no time.

Given it is public knowledge that he didn't even participate in the program, where's the issue?
Even if he didn't, it should still be taken off him if it's true that the players around him had an unfair advantage. It's infinitely easier to win a Brownlow when the team mates around you are doped up to their eyeballs. More shepards, more assists, more running capacity to help out, etc. All these factors should be taken into consideration.

Warning: Post contained high levels of idiocy.

It's been said in other threads and comes from sources like Mark Stevens.

Fletcher is also to have not been a participant in any supplement program run by the club and at least 1 more player (Hille).

Right

I hadnt seen anything official or read any factual information. Thats what I was hoping you'd provide.
As usual, you provide nil product

All the journos who have written about this have been wrong at different times, so I wouldnt be hanging my hat on that. So is it Mark Stevens or a "source like Mark Stevens". Maybe Dark Tevens or Bark Pevens?

You're probably right, but I'll wait for facts from the investigation.
