There are quite a few posts that mention Watson losing his Brownlow through this sub-board.

Does anyone think this is truly possible, and if so under what circumstances?

Obviously, most likely would be if Watson was found to have used a banned substance.

But what if he hasn't but team members have? If individual sanctions were imposed then I could not see the Brownlow being stripped, but if the EFC were sanctioned then maybe the AFL might ask for the medal back.

Would there be any legal comeback that Watson could use in such circumstances?

The Brownlow is awarded to the best & fairest player each year in the umpires view.
As far as I'm aware, the only way to be taken out of the count in the fairest category is to be suspended (or I believe have over x amount of points).

If there is a clause in the rules about the usuage of performance enhancing drugs is something someone needs to look into.
If Watson is deemed to have been injected with a substance that is classified by WADA as performance enhancing and this clause exists, then yes the AFL have grounds to remove his Brownlow.

Now, the AFL can award no Brownlow for 2012, or view Trent Cotchin and Sam Mitchell as the best & fairest of 2012.

The AFL can do whatever it likes

Just like the NRL took away Storms cups

Any medals or silverware won by a club that has used PEDs will be in jeopardy now

If Jobe was outside the doping activities that the EFC were carrying out, then they may allow him to keep it

The problem then becomes - if Jobes team mates had an unfair CHEMICAL advantage against their opponents then that advantage surely helps Jobe win a brownlow

Could become very ugly here folks

How about you little bitchmond fans worry about yourselves, and don't attempt to cast aspersions on a player of the highest integrity
who has worked his ring off to forge himself into one of the games' elite players - something you armchair experts could only dream about.
He has EARNED respect, so damn well give it to him.

Settle down Spartan. It's a legit question. Where has anyone stated that Watson is guilty. It's been posed as a hypothetical situation and one that I think is highly relevant.

But Cotchin and Mitchell will not have fulfilled the best & fairest criteria. Merely the 2nd best but fairest.

If in some crazy world Watson loses his Brownlow, and for future cases, they shouldn't award a Brownlow to initial 2nd places.

I think it is because of this that we have to give him the benefit of the doubt and no need for speculation.

Watson deserves people to believe in him for the best.

You could argue though that they are the best because the best was enhanced.

However, I agree with you that they shouldn't award one to either.
If I was Trent or Sam I wouldn't want it anyway.

they would have fulfilled the best and fairest criteria in teams that were not CHEMICALLY assisted

It doesn't matter if Jobe is clean - we know that a substantial fraction of the EFC playing list isn't.

Jobe's chances of scoring a brownlow medal are enhanced with juiced up team mates

I suspect that if the EFC is found guilty of systematic doping of banned substances, then all awards during the effected period will be revoked

Unless a back room deal is made, or some new revelations surface, I cant see how Jobe can hang onto the Brownlow

Adrian Anderson specifically stated in a press conference when AFL aligned with WADA that if a player was found to have used PED's the AFL would strip the brownlow. I'll try and find a link.

The 2012 ladder and draft are also compromised.

Essendon will be punished heavily.

I am seeing too many people willing to stick the boot in based on rumour and innuendo. Let's not waste energy worrying about what ifs, and look at what is the reality.
In any case, Jobe is one guy who does not deserve it.

I bet if Knights was still at the helm, bombers fans would be camping outside HQs until he stood down

You need to see past your golden boys shiny glittering armour

they are tarnished and beginning to crumble with rust

the AFL draw has always been compromised

in fact the AFL even has a nice little 1 million dollar salary cap gift for its wonder club Sydney

(and the AFL says its fair, because the AFL pays the million dollar salary cap rort)

One day the illegal Cap and draft will be challenged in court and they will collapse like a heap of cards

well that is one of the more stupid posts I've seen for a while. If we were playing like 3 years ago as well, that might be an issue.

As was Hird. o_O I am personally shattered that his reputation - regardless of the outcome - lies in tatters over this debacle. I was a huge fan of Hird. I cannot understand how he could have let things get so out of control down there. Just so disappointed in him.

I hope Jobe stood by his principles and didn't participate in the "intervention".

How about we wait and see exactly what Hird knew or was doing before being disappointed.

based on Watson's performances this season, not sure he was even on anything last year, and if he was...it did heck all because he's actually in better form right now than this same time last year and they currently sing the song with ASADA joining in after the games.

It doesn't matter. The damage is done. Hird clearly had no control over this situation. As head coach - he even said this himself - he takes full responsibility for what has happened. You cannot let your desire to win cloud your judgement. I believe he has done just that. The appointment of Dank. The off site injections. The substances - for both the players and the coaches. Regardless of whether Essendon saw a letter from Dank saying everything was AOK, this needed to be confirmed by one of your own. It took some of us less than an hour to find enough information to draw the conclusion that it was a prohibited substance. We aren't elite athletes, nor have we been educated in the WADA code - but we still found it.

I may be wrong, but it appears to me that it is Hirds' character that is being exposed in this crisis. His reputation will be effected accordingly. But the issue is deeper that reputation.
