Not an elephant in the room, aside from the fact that he could be even better. Bet the rest of you love 'punt it long and act tough' Lynden Dunn's attitude - when Watts is far better than him by foot which is a modern day HBF's role. At the back end of he year, not having Watts costed us games when the forward line started to fire.
I agree with everything except the knock on Dunn's field kicking - he is actually very good over long distances and will hit targets more often than not. Joel MacDonald on the other hand...

Games? So you think Watts would have been the difference. I would say he never once influenced a game since we have had him, but i think i hear where you are coming from.

Im not knocking Watts skills, but he is not a 'real defender'. He may play a quarter back role, but that still requires accountability.

Definitely with SPC 98 on this one. Watts was terrible one-on-one this year. Hence why Neeld says that he'll be in defence next year. I reckon he wants Watts training with the backline this summer, hopefully improving his defensive work 10-fold, and then being able to deploy him as that third-man-up, quarterback or loose man without having to worry about him losing so many contests. I reckon it's all part of his overall development... no chance in hell that he will remain in the backline for the rest of his career, which is panning out very similar to that of BJ Goddard so far.

He'd better not go to Essendon.

Neeld obviously doesn't think he can play forward based on the recruitment of Dawes and hogan. Terrible one-on-one not accountable, good decision maker, but it only gets you so far. His fast, agile, good mark, great kick and thinker, yet doesn't seem to give it his all. I'm not bagging wattsy, I just recko that He isn't living up to the potential he clearly has. same with a lot of them.
Ps. Dunn is one of the best kicks in our team, and played Extremely well in defense in tr latter stages of the season.

I find it funny how people on forums like this like to personally attack people who disagree with their own opinions. Surely its all about putting forward different ideas and having robust debate on the issues rather then denigrating the person who posts an idea you disagree with. Play the ball, not the man. Rather than resorting to online troll behaviour how about people post their competing arguments so that we can instead have a mature debate and share ideas? Isn't that what a democracy is all about?
This is not a democracy. It is the Demons Board. If you do not like the cut of our jib, G&GF.

Constructive, though not necessarily positive comments from non-MFCers are absolutely welcome.

If you want to swan in here and make some 101 comments and expect instant respect, well, I urge you to get off the mooch.

Always strikes me as strange when people bag Watts yet he is the only player who when kicks the ball I actually don't expect it to go out on the full
Yes exactly, it's not suprising that once Watts went down back we were actually able to get the ball out of defence more convincingly, and that in turn increased our inside 50's. Of course he still made some clangers, but I can't think of any other player in the team I would rather have kicking the ball (apart from Clark / Dunn if they all had to line up for goal outside 50)
