Wrong. We look like absolute bloody idiots for getting nothing, exactly like Port did.

Port claimed they will now be shown 'respect' for losing Stevens for nothing. They didn't, and no one gives a crap, and everyone else just laughs at them for getting nothing.

There is NO win in pride here. I'd rather develop a good kid with pick 17 than get nothing, if that's what it comes to.

- I thoroughly agree! - to let him go to the PSD sends no message to other
players in future (eg it never stopped Josh Carr wanting to go home after Stevens went into the PSD)

- some have suggested Sam Fisher + pick 17 however i suspect St Kilda would offer only Fisher OR pick 17.
Worst case scenario i would accept pick 17 but not Sam Fisher for reasons already stated (24yo defender not in our needs, 2nd string forward at best etc)

- however if Fungus so dearly wants to go to the Saints and they want him so much as well, then,(providing another club offers a much better deal to us for him),we could suggest that he either goes to that club or the Saints somehow trade up to match that deal or he goes in the PSD. Then the crunch comes in the final minutes of trade week to see who succumbs first)

I've come around to your way of thinking. Initally, I thought showing some bravado and letting Fergus take his chances in the PSD and us getting nothing in return was the right thing to do. I think I was just letting of steam, coz' I was annoyed at Fergus and the whole situation. This attitude, as admiral as it may be, doesn't advance our squad and basically makes bad business sense.

Like you said, making a stand didn't sway Josh Carr from giving it a crack the very next year and Port finally relented, coz' they - understandably - didn't wanna' go away empty handed from two big non-trades in a row.

Unless, a 3rd or 4th club gets involved, I'm afraid we may have to settle for what the Saints offer, eg. pick 17.

However, between pick 17 and nothing, I'd take pick 17.

Stopped Collingwood potentially winning a flag though.

As I posted earlier, that decision had other benefits other than the perceived message Port was intending to send out.

Obviously we're in a different sort of boat with Watts though.

If the options were Motlop or pick 17, I would grudgingly prefer Motlop.

Nathan Buckley from Brisbane (wanted to play in a team likely to play finals regularly - good decision that one!)

That's a myth. It may have had a small bit to do with it but it was his love for the Collingwood Football Club and his desire to play for the club he supported was the reason he went to Collingwood.

You always hear people say that he would regret that decision but I bet he doesn't regret it one bit. He has black and white blood in his veins (I wouldn't mind betting that was the reason he chose Port in the SANFL - same colours as Collingwood) and he would not want a premiership if it meant playing for another club anyway, I'm sure.

If you were AFL standard and had the choice between the Crows at a time when they are struggling or a team at the top what would you choose? I'd choose the Crows no doubt.

honestly can you blame him? you guys eat pie floaters, your highest building is the aami stadium light tower and your trains are only two carriages long....

HAHAHAHAHA............... Never heard that before.

1 flag in 100+ years isn't it?

No it didnt. Collingwood missed the finals completely. Nick Stevens would not have made any difference. What it did was guarantee Ports reign at the top woudl be short lived.

Letting players go for nothing is totally foolish. Something is always better than nothing.

Have to say RESPECT to the Crows fans on here, you present yourselfs in a good manner on such a topic.

I am a Saint, and I do want Watts, due to him wanting to leave and the weakish draft.

Would love for a fair deal to be worked out, but the problem is that I don't know what is fair because I can't really say I have seen Watts play and I am not going to say that he must be good just because he kicked 10 goals in reserves a few back.

Say he gem, the problem is:
- Saints love to keep their first pick.
- Fiora isn't much of a player (has the tools though)
- Sam Fisher would not be let go.

So it does shape as though the Crows might be jibbed, and even though I am a Saints fan, I say that if we don't put anything worth while on the table then teach the little prick a leason and send him to Carlton via the PSD! LOL

My worry is that Freg hasn't finished screwing us over yet.
Hows this for a scenario:
1. Twatts nominates the ONLY club he will accept a trade to.
2. St Kilda make a ******** poor offer (2nd round pick)
3. Adelaide tell them to shove it
4. Last quarter of GF. Eagles down by 5 goals and no chance of winning (although I don't think Twatts would even consider this). Watts goes for a mark and throws himself onto the ground. He writhes in pain and has to be stretchered from the field as his back is hurting and he can't feel his legs.
5. Claims/rumours of serious back injury surface as Twatts immediately heads to Melbourne for 'treatment'.
6. Believing the rumours, other clubs lose interested in an unproven player with possible long term back problems.
7. St. Kilda make a slightly improved offer (pick 17)
8. Crows left with no other options, pick 17 or PSD draft for Twatts

Anybody think this is not possible? My advice to the Crows.......DO NOT LET TWATTS PLAY THIS WEEKEND!

Yes Eagles will be ********ed, but honesty do they think Mr Ego really cares if they win?

That has got to be one of the most moronic things I have ever seen posted.

Jack, I think you need to go back and ask your shrink to prescribe you something stronger than what you are currently on. The medication is obvioulsy not right since you are coming up with bizzare suggestions of Kozi for Watts. Get heads out of hte cloud Jackie, you are starting to worry us.

we would obviously have to include picks stiffy18, arrowman likes it too. And when you think about it we have them right where we want them and its not an unreasonable suggestion. Make sure you tell james to hold his nerve, i have this feeling we'll do a deal the second day of trade week.

Anthony Rocca and Shannon Grant from Sydney

are you 100% sure it was Grants first contract>? But really thats the point isnt it. What were the state of sydney when rocca left or jeff white from freo or buckley from bris. They were incompetent pathetic clubs. It is a disgrace and raises serious questions about our management that we are unable to keep players esp after their first contract and in general are unable to develop our youngsters which is needed.

Mate, you tried to attack my analogy and I rightly sat you on your ass. If you're going to get bitter, not my problem.
You're right it's not your problem.
You're problem is that you think you can win arguments by
1. Labelling people ignorant or stupid if they disagree with you
2. Omitting any facts or supporting evidence
3. Unilaterally declaring that you win without convincing the other party

Interesting theories but I don't buy them. Probably similar to Fergus' tactics when he spoke to Craigy.

4. Wearing people down. OK you win

Jack,

How about coming out and naming someone to blame instead of throwing a few stones and running away.

Who are you going to blame? Steven Trigg? John Reid? James Fantasia? Neil Craig? Us the supporter for not showing him enough love in the street?

Bull ********, Fergus Watts was always going to leave and the writing was on that wall as early as February or March this year (Someone posted that they saw him at the airport with his family on his way back to Adelaide and he could have been in tears at the prospect of leaving)

The AFC could have offered him $300,000 a year but that would have been irresponsible and completely irrational just as not drafting him when we were in dire needs of a key forward and he was still available. The club cannot be bulled into drafting local simply for the fact that they will go home.

Lets stop blaming the club for a bad decision, it wasn’t, at the time it was the right decision to make and it was made in the best interest of the football club. Fergus Watts knew the probability of having to move interstate when he entered the draft and he as a 20 year old is not strong enough to untie the apron strings just yet.

this is the worry. ;) Its a golden opportunity to make the saints pay.

How so???? You have said on a couple of occasions we are in the boxed seat but I don't see how. The saints don't have high drafts picks and the players they will be willing to trade we aren't interested in. I hope you don't see a trade for Kosi as a viable option. The guy is only 2 years older than Watts and he has shown this year, he was one of the few players in the competetion who is a genuine matchwinner. He would be one of the last players the Saints would be willing to trade.

Iam also interested in how you can see how the AFC are in the box seat as well. The way I see the AFC are not in control of these proceedings for a draft pick, Fergus Watts has 3 options

1) Hope St Kilda want his services. If he has said St Kilda simply for the loyalty reason with his dad being CEO and St Kilda (G Thomas and Co) are not really interested the AFC are stuffed because they will not up there ante to meet our needs. They can offer a 2nd round pick and say we are not all that interested we will allow him to go in the PSD
2) He can go to Carlton and we get nothing
3) Change his mind and sign a contract extension and stay in Adelaide (not going to happen)

The AFC would be praying that the St Kilda Football Club (G Thomas and Co) rate him and are desperate to gain his services and then demand will come into play if not we will get a poor pick or hold our nerve and allow him to go to Carlton. Hopefully its not just his old man Jim Bob Watts blowing smoke up has kids clacker and over valuating his expectations of the clubs interest..
