Thanks for the over reaction. Down water Hick? Are you suffering from small state syndrome?Too many people in too smaller area? How big of St Kilda to offer "something" back. You were the one that brought Begley into the story, it was completely irrelevant and has no bearing whatsoever to the Watts scenario. I don't think he'll go to the Saints anyway, as they will most likely be trumped by the Bulldogs who are desperate for a key forward.

Sorry mate I actually live in Perth but yes managed to find just enough room to stretch out my arms today, and yeah I did bring Begley into the story saying fairly much the club we support actually showed something called common decency to allow Begley to return to his home state, pity neither of the clubs over there had enough to reciprocate.

And I also pointed out that in this case Saint Kilda would probably be accomodating again and offer a trade to get Watts, it's no surprise he's returning to Vic, and theres no real surprise at to where he wants to play.

And in the event the kid wants to do the dirty and walk for nothing even if he goes into the preseason draft, it doesn't neccessarily mean he'll go to any other club you see he is allowed to refuse offers of contracts and pick the one he deems right, out of curiosity which one do you think that will be.

And yeah down water hick is quite apt as well

No, he can put a price on his head to scare off interest but if a club has the money and selects him, he's going or he's sitting it out. He cant just nominate the club and no one else can pick him, it doesnt work like that.

your right its not supposed to but how many times in the PSD for the last five years have you known exactly which club gets who a week before it happens.
Obviously if he's just walked on one club to go to where he wants, how many clubs in their right mind would take that punt?

Look at one draft result that worked wonders for the Bullies recently in good old Rawlings, he gave them a lot of return didn't he?

I think you'll find a trade eventuates with the Saints anyhow

Common decency was shown by your club with Begley, I don't disagree, but the Watts situation is entirely different and will have no bearing. You're also correct about him being able to refuse offers, but how much money do the Saints have in their cap currently? Not much I'd say, given that they battled hard to retain the players they have. If the Saints put up a reasonable trade, then I'm sure he'll go there, but I still think he's more likely to end up elsewhere. I'm just disappointed that Mummy's boy will be rewarded for screwing the club that drafted him and prepared him. That's life I guess and I don't expect to ever see you here complaining when a high draft pick screws you over to return home after 2 years of preparation.

I would have though North who have Motlop to trade and Adelaide would be a reasonably perfect match

Perhaps draft picks might be needed or something to even it up but at least you don't get in the situation where someone is trying to rip you off because they know the player is going to leave.

OMG that could mean ANOTHER North forward goes to Adelaide

Carey, M Stevens, Welsh, Hewitt ... and now possibly Motlop

Bizarre as all hell

All I'm sayin gis it's inevitable and occurring more nowadays,
last year Stenglien, Carr, go back to Begley, Headland not even trying theres four now Motlop is wanting to get closer to home, Watts the same.

People complain ad nauseam regarding the dilution of state pride, team versus team the old club values and such by the huge conglomerate that is the afl. Really you should value the fact these kids prefer to return to their home state and represent either a team they hoped to get drafted by originally or at least represent in some way the state they grew up in. Just because a guy leaves your side for reasons like this is no excuse to dump on him, you had two tears to convince him he should embrace everything there was about his new environs but couldn't. Don't take it as a personal affront it's life, for mine the only club that has a great retention rate is the Eagles, even after the Malthous eyears players stuck fat with the club, says a lot for them i think

Like what? The draft? A club drafts a bloke from another state and presumably tries its best to re settle him but it can't always work........
No and I won't make much of a fuss about it. Just disappointing for clubs and their supporters when a club uses their draft picks and development time, and then loses the player for no fault of their own. It's sort of OK when you get some value, e.g. you and Nick Davis. But Adelaide looks to get very little here, just more potential players if anything.
Not really anything that I can see that can be changed with the system. Teams will just become ever more gun-shy with drafting young recruits from other areas of the country.

I'd bet Adelaide will get better value than we got for Nick Davis. I'd also bet Nick Davis is a better player. make no mistake I was bleeding he left and he was in the top few at the club talent wise. Head wise he was ordinary but that may have finally turned around. I always said we should have tried harder to keep him and that Eddie played the wrong card.

ROFL.

Sorry, but that was just too too silly for words.

The Crows have had significantly more success in 15 years than the Saints have had since waaaaaaaayyyy back, and some Saintsfan thinks we care (given we have a waiting list for members & can't accomodate everyone who wants to be part of the Crows fanbase as it is) that the stupid Saints fan doesn't respect our club?

Too, too funny.
