Saw the game today.

From a marketing perspective NikNat would be impossible to resist. Fast, tall, athletic freaks like him don't grow on trees! He's the kind of player that would help boost membership and crowd numbers from Day 1. However his skill level and football brain remain a concern.

Rich is Luke Hodge mk II. Tough, ball magnet, and one of the most deadly left foots I have seen! Would be a safe choice at 1 and would almost certainly make our midfield with Brock, Jones, Morton etc a force to be reckoned with!

Watts didn't do a lot today but definitely has the foundations of being an elite AFL forward.

It's gonna be a tough choice. :thumbsu:

Yeah it will be tough, thats for sure...

But from what I seen today, its down to Watts or Rich.

Watts made the most of limited opportunities today, his supply from his metro team mates wasnt too flash, but when he got it - he looked impressive, actually quite nimble and elusive at times.

I dont think I need to talk Rich up, you pretty much summed him up, safe choice as number 1 - and his kicking today was as impressive as ive seen.

If we somehow managed to win more games and had the 3rd pick, id go Hartlett before Nick Nat, Hartlett could be anything after what I seen today..

You must be mixing up your Morton's mate.

Cale is a Cam Bruce type utility, hes no CHF.

No, been watching Cale for years. He will be a KPP. Just because he is skinny now does not mean he is the next Cameron Bruce utility type.
He can't exactly be a CHF right now can he? How have I heard your coach and your former recruiting manager say he was drafted to eventually be a KPP.

Hell, Craig Cameron said it on draft day on SEN as soon as the draft finished..... hmm.....

"Watts wants melbourne" what a interesting headline.

Reading this you would think he followed melbourne as a kid or thinks we have a great list.
The simple fact is he doesnt want to go interstate and would rather play for us than go interstate.
If he had his choice of club i think it would be safe to assume he would want another victorian club.
If a headline like this makes you sleep better at night good for you. But it should really be "watts wants to stay in victoria" or "of the teams that suck watts wants melbourne". If the headline was "melbourne wants watts" id find it a much more appealing read.

What watts wants and what watts gets dont mean jumpin jack squat.
Having said all this yes i would like to get him, but any top 3 pick will reep rewards so it dont matter what pick in the 3 you get.

Mate your talking years into the future.
At the moment, I am content with using his huge aerobic capacity on the wing.
He doesn't look like the type that will put Chris Tarrant sized guns on him and become a permanent CHF... and please don't laugh at the Cam Bruce comparison.. we know our team a hell of a lot better than you do.

Isn't that what drafting kids is about.... the future?

Morton will be a KPP in the future, just like Watts will be.
They are not going to win you a premiership next year it's about 4-6 years down the track. The future is the basis of drafting. Morton will not be utility for your next premiership run.

He is already playing like one, like in the Tigers game, he has great lead up ability and could be like Riewoldt.

You may know your team better but I can guarantee I know Cale better.

Apologies for the double post.

Well, I dont know what you know, but I can't see Cale being a KPP in the future. He just doesnt/won't have the bady mass even after several summers in the gym. I tend to see Cale definitely as a utility but likely to turn into a creative defender. The player I liken him to is Brendan Goddard.

Surely if he was going to end up as a KPP, he would have been playing in a KPP in the U-18s?

But, to my knowledge, he was used a utility yes?

I don't doubt he has the height to be a KPP, but I can't see it happening. Hence, why he is being developed as a midfielder at the moment, both at Sandy and in the red and blue.

but your not dean bailey, he will play cale in what postion HE FEELS IS BEST not what you think is best. And if dean thinks its on a wing i back his judgement more than a poster on big footy.

By the way, your ealier point about craig cameron is totally irrelivant since he is no longer with us. And anything that came out of craig camerons mouth i wouldnt take any notice of. This was a guy who drafted luke molan (who i know better than any of you, i knew he was a dud when he played falcons with my brother and it sure turned out i was correct) with the number 8 pick in the so called "superdraft". If you are a recruiter and you missed getting a 100 game player with a top ten pick in that draft, you lose all credability in my view.

But your current coach and former recruiting manager both stated he will eventually be a KPP. A 192cm 18 year old who is still growing... will prob end up 193/194. He is currently taller than Garland, think he is the same as Bate. Jeff White is only 3cm's taller.

Only thing stopping him right now is weight, which if your club knows anything about body mass build he will be 8-10 kilos in 3-5 years. So a 192-194 cm 86+ kilo who won't be a KPP. You are crying out for one, don't know why you would want another Bruce over a possible Riewoldt.

pffff......like you admitted in a previous post we know our team better than you do. So dont say what we are crying out for.

We are crying out for decent players who play any postion period.

Garland is not a full back imo. I think he is going to develop into a flexiable creative defender like a milburn type. Just because he is playing full back now doesnt mean he will in the future, it just reflects the inadequate amount of kp defenders we have.

Bate is not even close to a riewoldt type chf, more like a chris tarrant early days.

White has never been a tall ruckman, his jumping ability made him a good ruckman not height. So to stay cale is only 3cms shorter is totally irrelevant.

Lastly to say cale is a riewoldt type is just plain stupid. Nick in his first full season kicked 8 goals (or was it 9) in a game against dustin fletcher. I cannot see cale doing that. As much as i would love for you to be right and myself to be wrong i just cant see the comparrison at all.

He said Jack Riewoldt not Nick.

jack??????????lol are you serious.

he wants cale morton to be a jack riewoldt type??lmao.

I have high hopes for cale, much much higher than anything jack riewoldt will ever get close too. Another guy who played with my brother for tasmania in the the vfl. Didnt think much of him then and dont think much of him now.

Oh please god no! Goddard is the biggest spud of a number 1 draft pick since Clive Waterhouse, and even he had some use. At least liken him to someone who gives us something to look forward to, not a soft ass looseman, cheap possesion getting #### like Goddard.

I liken him to Goodes. Overstatement maybe, but at least its something to look to, unlike aspiring to Brenden Goddard-like heights. If thats where we see Morton headed, then to quote Arressted Development 'We've made a huge mistake'.

Also Watts will be a gun, Morton will never play Key forward, he will be molded into a tall, athletic wingman who kills the opposition off his boot
