Watts

I remember watching David Schwartz and Neita in their first two years. IMO Watts has out performed both

sorry to intrude, difference between Neitz and Watts is that Neitz had the courage required to play the game at an elite level, Watts doesnt.

You can teach skill
You can't teach courage, you're born with it.

don't be a ****ing idiot, courage can be learnt and fears can be overcome, you just want to see him fail, its obvious by your post, id prefer you not to come on a melbourne board to bag out a melbourne player

wrong mate, I dont want him to fail, I dont think he's useless, he has exceptionally good foot and hand skills andlooks very naturally poised when he has the ball, he just doesnt have the guts and always looks to pull out or run around a contest.

Shit thread.

And of the 150 "Jack" "Watts" or "Jack Watts" threads this probably has the most posts.

Don't know what this says about all of us.

I dont think any Melbourne supporter has jumped off the Watts bandwagon just yet, the talent is obviously there, however i do believe the critism is justified and this point i don't believe he deserves hes spot in the seniors side just yet especially after the last 3 weeks. Also the people that are suggesting Dunn deserves to be dropped over Watts should really look at the last 5 weeks instead of concentrating on the week past, i mean Watts has kicked 4 goals in the last 5 weeks playing a permanant forward while Dunn has kicked 16 playing a similar position. What i would love to see Jack improve like someone suggested is not just hes hardness but for a lack of a better term he's selfishness, tries to give to many off in a goal kicking position. Im looking forward to seeing him kick a bag of 6 next season, but untill then he should be taught to earn he's spot in the side first.

well, when you say a player doesn't have the courage to play at the elite level, it kind of implies that you think he is a useless player.... if he isn't up to the elite standard.. yes??

Watts is not an AFL quality right now. Only reason he is playing is because he was drafted at number 1. I'm fine with that, but all you blokes who have convinced yourselves Watts is traveling well are truly kidding yourselves. If Brad Miller had put in the same performances as Watts he would have been dropped a long time ago.

Thats because he has been at the club for ten years & been given a million chances & only played a handfull of good games. He used to star between rounds 19-22 every year to somehow keep his spot on the list but he doesn't even do that anymore.

How about I slightly rephrase Surkin's post.

If Neville Jetta put in the same performances as Watts, he'd get dropped. He played poorly and was dropped. Watts is getting a bit of a free ride. I'd drop him for Miller this week. We're playing in Adelaide so it hardly matters who we put out on the park as we'll get smashed anyway. At least we'll have the chance to make a point.

classic overreaction, if we want Watts to be KPP AFL elite (which he has the potential to be) he needs game time (what you said basically)..... but he is travelling well, you have to look at things retrospectively, Watts is outperforming Reiwoldt, Pavlich, Cloke and Brown (performing better than brown @ 21 as well) at the same age + experience... we can't expect him to turn it on right now, i think next year he will begin to allay some fears and doubts.... he is doing as well as could and SHOULD be expected of him at the moment, sure his last game was terrible, and the last two weeks he has been a bit soft, but against brisbane he got 13 contested possessions.... that shows his ability to win the hard ball... i wouldn't be suprised if he is very sore ATM and that is the root of his hesitance... give him time

I'd drop him for Miller this week.

I see what your saying but:

Brad Miller: The conditions weren’t ideal for him, because it was pretty windy. The opposition also double teamed him whenever it could, which made it hard for him. We actually put him in the ruck for a little bit in the second half. He still contributed and had 15 possessions, but he didn’t get a goal.

This is from the coach who never says a bad thing about anyone but the best he could say about Miller was "He still contributed".

Unless he plays as a ruck I don't see him having earnt a spot.

Edit:

And then consider JF's game:

Jack Fitzpatrick: I thought it was Jack’s best game for the year. He played in the ruck and kicked a couple of goals. He had 15 possessions and was competitive in the ruck against Sam Jacobs, who was best the week before for the Bullants against Frankston. Jack played on him and I thought he started to out jump Jacobs by the end of the game. He was really promising and gets better the more games he plays.

I just don't see a spot for Miller.......... Ever.

Needs bulking up. The only reason he appears soft is because he knows he doesn't really have the bulk.

To say he avoids the contest is quite wrong, a number of occasions he has put his body in hard.

I think he is just at the moment trying to avoid marking contests because he doesn't believe he can win them.

If he can get stuck into the weights this year, put on beef, he'll be far moore dominant.

Just gotta keep playing him. I didnt see the Hawthorn game but he has been chipping in every week up until then probably the Carlton game was his last really poor game, and he definitely stepped up in that last quarter against Richmond, kicked 1, set a couple up, he is a shadow of the player he will become and is playing in a completely different position.

I'd definitely like to see him be more selfish, one bit of play that stands out was when he got an interception against essendon, burned a bloke off and was 20 out on an angle and handballed to someone else, would have been a great goal and lifted the team but obviously when his confidence builds more that will come. Wouldn't mind seeing him played a bit closer to goal at stages either as thats what he's gonna have to do in the future, enough cotton wool!
