Read the front page of today's Herald-Sun!

Waverley is kaput, cactus, finito, there is no more, that's all folks!

Will be turned into a mix of light residential and light commercial with the lake (cesspool) and a bit of the stand and ground remaining for a local sports oval.

Send in the bulldozers!!!!!!!

Of what I understand, they can sell/demolish Waverley as long as they have a permit from the Monash Council etc.Everything apparantly has been agreed to but the AFL must not demolish the VFL mural and several other things of which I can't remember.

**** off moron, waverly is an utter dump. The only thing that lets colonial down is its surface and some ticketing problems which are being worked on. Things such as crap vieing, being far away from everywhere and having no atmosphere at waverly couldnt be fixed, hence it is the shithole it is now.

Why did they get rid of Waverley Park??. It held 77,000 compared to Optus Oval's 30,000.
And even though it did have a shit scoreboard it had to be better than one that doesnt even show the correct logo for each club and flicks up with KOUTA every time that **** gets it. And Waverley is not falling apart like Optus is. So why dont they get rid of Optus??

Because the AFL doesn't own it.

And have been being worked on for over a year and have hardly made any progress at all. Waverly has a shit score board, that with the amount of money spent on Colonial, could have had a new one replace it and new seats added. Colonial is terrible for TV, day games you can only see half the ground at a time, and even the players have trouble. Waverly had the best, apart from the MCG, surface in the AFL. And i'm sure your comment about there being no atmosphere at waverly would be very strongly argued by many a fan who went to clashes there! Waverly is also far better than optus.

Give it a facelift (it IS ugly), put a retractable roof on it for all the people who can't stand the rain, and make it more aesthetically pleasing. And build a bloody railway line to the thing.

I don't see why there isn't room for another stadium in Melbourne, especially when all you have to do is fix up an existing one that lies in a currently unserved geographic area. How many clubs share the MCG right now, five? Not to mention some Essendon and Carlton matches.

They try to run down waverley but although the surface has weeds, if you applied a few hundred gallons of weed'n'feed, mowed it a few weeks later it would still be beteer than colonial.

You could argue that waverly's surface is better than colonial now, and it hasn't been exactly looked after since the AFL abandoned it!

You obviously haven't been to either. From a spectator's view - Colonial is one of the best stadiums in the country.

Well In my opinion If Hawthorn and StKilda banded together we would still have Waverley especially as Hawthorn had a long term lease there and had the AFL by the goolies but the Hawks under Dicker sold out not only their members but the eastern suburbs as a whole. I agree the surface at Waverley was a sensation compared to Colonial but the fact remains Waverley is dead and almost buried and Colonial is here with us whether we like it or not.

Fair enough optus is a shithole.
But how many times was Waverly packed?
Only once in 1999, did it ever average a crowd of over 50,000 per year? I think not.

What bullshit is this? How can the players only see half the ground? That is a stupid statemnt. Have you ever sat in colonial? Probably not.

There never was any atmposphere at waverly. Name me at least 4 games in ONE SEASON that averaged over 50,000. I bet you wont find that many. No one liked going there, if they did it would still be around.
Far better than Optus, christ Frankston 3rds ground is.

With the size of the ground, the distance of the viewing areas from the playing area, and the sloping wings, Waverley was a shocking place to watch games. That's not even taking into account the time and camping supplies most people need to get there.

Colonial has no bad seats. As for inflated ticketing prices, I have never once had to pay more than general admission price, even with crowds of 35,000-40,000.

COLONIAL EFFING RULES!!!

poor poor Waverley
what a shame that it had to die - I guess "people" like Really *really* need to just think about it for a minute - yes Waverley is a little old fashioned but it was so easily accessible for country fans and those bayside and southern areas - yes Colonial is new and big but it has the WORST surface - how can it be allowed to be used - well stupid question I know because it is all about big dollars and money and nothing to do with the fans
They have just let Waverley die and alot of people are worse off now
And the roof is sooooooooooooooooooo
dumb - it is football not some stupid basketball - I like fresh air Cheers

From a spectator's view? Huh? Tell me, what's better for a spectator - comfy seats watching footy played on a sandpit, or a wooden bench in the cold watching footy played on a decent playing surface?

Well said carnaeagles - footy is a game that needs a decent surface - Colonial's surface is an embarrasing disgrace !
cheers

I think too many people who knock Waverley Park really don't have a clue about footy or what it really means to follow and support the game (and the teams)
The most important part of going to the footy is watching the bloody game,
Footy is a winter sport yes thats right winter rain, wind hail cloudly cold days,
thats what makes it so great, standing in the outer in the freezing cold which when the game starts you don't even notice becuase you get so invovled in the game,
But thats all over now, no now theres a stadium with a ROOF, and computers built into some of the seats, WHAT THE FUC K is going on, What are the AFL trying to do,
I'll you what (for the people who haven't already figured this out) They want to completely control the game, they want to control which people can play the game, which people can go and watch the game and so on, they don't give a shit about the people who made the game the old players and supporters, if you haven't got the cash they don't want you, its simple.

So if you are sick and tired of what the AFL has done to the Game, then don't go to anymore games, if you do go then you give the AFL more money which in turn means they are more powerful so its simple don't go,
As far as the clubs looking after there supporters that is the biggest load of shit I have ever heard,
Did any of the Melbourne clubs try to save Waverley NO,
The hawks gave in to the money that was offered by the AFL,
That just shows that the clubs don't give a shit about the people in the Eastern Suburbs,

Well I've said what I wanted to say, I made a promise to my mates that I would never go to another AFL match unless Waverley was saved for football, and now it looks like that dream is all over so FUC k You AFL I hope you and all the clubs go broke
Maybe then a new comp will start in Victoria you take your Interstate teams and shove them up your arse,
Why should they get a cut out of the Waverley deal they never put one cent towards the ground and yet they are going to get a cut out of the sale,
and also Why did the AFL get rid of the reserves?
why did they scrap the under 19's ?
why did they scrap the suburban grounds?
why did they scrap Waverley?
Why did change the old footy record, the old one used to fit in your jacket pocket and they were more interesting than the crap ones they have had in the last 8 years

the game is stuffed, Wanye and his cronnies have got the American crap in there heads
you tell me what is so great about the yanks
this whole country in going down the tubes
ah **** this im going
