Waylen Manson

What I found unusual Meto was Selwood's deliberation on using that phrase, as much as the words themselves. Struck me as odd, and surprising.

Certainly didn't sound good did it, we may be jumping to the negative a bit quick but there's hardly been many positives surrounding big Dawsy lately.
With his history of vertebrae issues he may well be in a dark place atm, some people aren't as resilient as others and the nature of his injury and associated pain could be overwhelming.

Forget waylen, if the big man bradie foster doesn't win the recruit, I think we should have a look at getting him, if Simpson really is going to retire.

In the context of Selwood's very encouraging and supportive comments it sounded to me like nothing more than an equivalent of "regroup and start again".

It could be taken both ways no doubt, but the perpetual problem doesn't seem to want to co-operate with our needs let alone Dawson.

I'd like to see us find a spot for Waylen Manson, if we could 'B' grade rookie Mark Blicav's why would you ignore Waylen, we have the perfect system and environment at Geelong for him to acclimatise.
Plenty of hard working indigenous boys to help his progress as well.

Wouldn't be surprised.

Third op, Balmy said it was 'getting serious for him' and wondered aloud if it were worth his future well-being to carry on, and I thought it a strange comment when Selwood said he needed to 'man up'.
Lingy has said many times that Big Daws is one of the most loved players at the cattery. Selwood's line was either an in-joke or a throwaway comment that means nothing (despite the conspiracy theorists trying to read something into it).

If the skip had an issue with the big fella, he had an opportunity to do something permanent about it earlier in the year...

if he can adapt to the physical stuff he could be anything, granted its a heavily edited show so you see what they want you to... but some of the highlights with the way he has gotten the ball from the ruck and burst away into goal are very impressive for a big bloke with no experience...
I have my doubts if you can handle the contact though, and if he was struggling he would get found out very very quickly even at VFL level

I'm sure it wasn't personal, but it was a curious choice of words.

However, my original point was that it, in conjunction with Balmey's comments, left me without surprise when it was mooted that Simpson may retire.

True, but odd, given it's his 3rd op and Balmey had questioned the ability and value of Simpson attempting a return.

Thanks Cataholic. It's a strange way of putting it, for sure. I jumped the gun by calling it 'disgusting' but felt it was taken out of context. Now it just sounds really weird!

I was a little surprised at the choice of words, but sure it wasn't personal.

The gist of Balmey's comments made it seem a little strange too, but my original point here was that I wasn't surprised to hear a rumour about Simpson's retirement in light of the comments by Selwood and Balmey.

Yeah, it almost certainly is innocent, or a joke, and I wasn't trying to read anything into it, but I just found it a curious choice of words at the time for reasons outlined in my other replies hereabouts.

How many back ops of a serious note would you put yourself through?.... there'd have to be an end sooner rather than later I'd imagine.
If he needs to consider retirement then he should IMO.

Agreed.

As others have posted, your health is the most important thing you possess.
