Rather him play for the AFC than any award

The lack of possession will 'hurt' Junior. These things generally go by stats, plus Petracca is a 'name' recruit.

That said, the kid is a beast and did deserve his nomination. Has a fair bit of the Look At Me about him too.

Another good game this weekend, in indigenous round? The AFL website article writes itself.

Serious. Why rest him this year so he can get an award next year. That's what I responded to.
The poster you responded to wasn't serious though

To those that have watched the SANFL more often than me, how is Wayne going??

I only see the stats, but he's had a dissaponting second half of the year if we're all being honest. Thought he would've played a few more games..

He's flat. Will be looking forward to a break and will have a huge pre-season.

As I've said on the podcast a number of times, it is his intensity at the contest that is the issue. First contest is not problem with him, but as soon as he delivers the ball or someone else has it, he just stops being involved. That is what I think the main issue is for Wayne, being involved a lot more and he has had Menzel to watch and learn off of. He still has done some lovely quality passes, but he did make a wrong decision on the weekend in kicking to a player out in a pocket instead of Dear who was leading directly at him. Also he has played 9 games, now he has been allowed to learn about our system in the sanfl at a lower intensity and get his body right. He did have a major bit of surgery last year just before the SANFL finals remember. The 9 games is interesting as it means he is eligible for the Rising Star next year.

Saw him Saturday and really, there wasn't much to be enthused about. As PJ Crows said, bit flat and looking for the line.

I know he's a first year player but given his SANFL form for Centrals and the fact he was good enough to make R1, I would have say it's ended up being a disappointing first year.

That might seem harsh, but if we think back to the first Showdown where he excelled, who would have thought he wouldn't even be nominated for a RS.

Plenty to work on over summer.

I believe that will improve with fitness and experience. Its always been CEY problem at AFL level. Second efforts, gut running and 1%ers are just not in his language and its what has held him back.

I'm not too worried. You could tell even when he played this year that he didn't have an AFL body. He certainly has enormous talent. Just needs some additional strength and fitness.

He'll need to work hard. Id have Doedee and Wigg ahead of him at the moment, with Menzel and Hampton likely to also challenge.
Which is a good thing.

Competition for spots next year will be hot.

Was always going to taper a bit, we've even seen it with McGovern who's 21/22. Had a big preseason and did amazingly well to get so many games. I suspect he's working on a few different things/roles at SANFL level as well which probably makes it a bit harder to excel as an 18 year old.

After the next pre season I think we will see ROB, Milera, Menzel, Wigg, Doedee and Gore, plus if CEY stays all will demand selection which means we have enough talent to back up any increase in misfortunes in injuries and guys who have been inconsistent performers like Mackay and Douglas could find themselves in the SANFL. I can't wait to see a fully developed Milera run out onto the park with Menzel, Cameron and Betts. That would just be pure frightening for the opposition.

On Fox Footy tonight, they were playing games from 1995, which was a year or two before I really started watching footy.

Watching footage of Matera while in his prime for West Coast was pretty cool but it got me thinking of Milera and how he has the potential to be that sort of player. He has a similar sort of skill set (vision and the ability to kick the ball at pace) but still needs to round out his game.

I was happy we gave him a good run at the start of the year, but now he needs to absolutely work his proverbial off in the pre-season.

Needs to play a minimum of 15 games next year.

He'll need to get a lot stronger in the core & Matera was much, much better overhead

You are comparing him to one of West Coasts top 22 players of all time, thats a huge comparison considering how succesful that club was in particular whilst he was in the team.

I'm not saying he will be as good.

I'm saying that Matera is the player he should base his game on.
