It helps that Adelaide allowed Smith the time he needed to blossom as a rebound defender. Milera's development has been disjointed in comparison. Not sure the club really knows what to do with him.

How is Milera going to go this year? I think he can be an absolute superstar, or he can be another plodder with unrealised potential.

One of our most talented but didn’t feature in our top 10 B&F is slightly concerning.

Its worth noting in Dangerfields 5th year with us he lifted his possession count from 17 to 26. Milera currently averages 18 a game and next year will be his 5th. Can he play through the midfield and get 25+ a game?

Dangerfield spent a lot of time up forward in his early years, so naturally got bigger numbers when he became a full-time midfielder. Milera you'd hope would also see a bump in numbers if he got put in the midfield for longer. The difference, IMO, is that Dangerfield was an inside beast who had the ability to just rip the ball out of a pack even with 3 or 4 opposition players hanging off it. Milera doesn't do that, and I don't know if he can do that - he's more an outside type player. If the likes of Sloane and the Crouches can feed enough of it out to him in space so that he can use the ball, then he'll go well. If we're not getting our share of the ball out, though, I think Milera can become a liability. I don't think he can impose himself on a game the way Dangerfield did. His advantage is in his ball use, though - he's a much, much better kick than Danger was. I'd rather have 25 a game from Milera than 35 from Dangerfield purely because those possessions will be more damaging. But Milera will be depending on others feeding him, while Danger would win his own ball.

I am hoping for a big year from him next year.
I think when he did his shoulder, it pretty well wrote off his season and the reason he was playing down in the backlines so much.
I'm hoping he will be played as a full time midfielder this year in the centre square, where he can use his pace and kicking skills to be a really damaging player for us.
Lets hope he doesn't have any niggling injuries as I think he is one player that struggles if not 100%
We need him to take the next step up and I expect him to have a breakout year
 
Leave him at half back and he will be an AA contender. Have him moving around the wing/midfield and half forward and you will lessen his impact and waste him.

One of my favs.

Yeah, Wayne seemed to go into his shell a fair bit after the shoulder injury, well that and the dysfunctional mess we were lineup wise.

Needs to be midfield, with a half back chop-out from round 1 next year. Use him as the offensive weapon he is.

Give him a break he looked confused, and it didn’t look like he was being given a clear message, that’s my read on it so I’m prepared to cut him some slack, I think he is the type to say just play

Seemed to get shunted all over the ground in 2019, forward, back, midfield... He wouldn't have known if he was Arthur or Martha.

Had a few decent games, even up forward kicking 3 in a quarter or so from memory, but really fell below expectations.

He needs to either stay on a half back flank, or play in the guts. If he stays at half back, he can always make the transition slightly later in his career ala Zac Williams this last season.

Had lower back issues as well so was at around 70-75% fit in 2019 .
Look back to the latter half of 2018 when he was dancing around the phone box like Michael Jackson , unbelievably evasive .
Once he gets his back , core and power base sorted he will be humming along .
Still only 22 , i believe he will get there and i think his best work is to be done from the middle and forward of center .
We have only had a tease . He has elite talent .

Yeah, I'm quite comfortable writing off Waynes last season. Injuries and us being a shitshow would stunt anyone.

That said, we do hit a bit of a make, or break period here. Wayne does need to step up and be the A-grader he's flashed. New coach and 5 seasons in the bigs may just be the ticket to coax it out of him.

yep his end to 2018 was fantastic, then this year was just meh. For the record I’m backing him in for big improvement this year, but if we’re asking the same questions this time next year I’ll be worried

Agreed. Some players are just naturals in certain positions and you have to leave them there.

It will be very interesting to see what Nicks does with Milera. If he is allowed to settle into that half-back position he'll do as well as anyone competition-wide in that role.

I doubt Milera would be a 25+ a game guy unless we actively seek him out to use his footskills.
Its all about what he does with his possessions. He has the ability to beat multiple opponents which is something not many of our guys have.

He needs to be our linebreaker/gamechanger. He has the speed, elusiveness and foot skills to do it. Can he put it all together?
