In Eddie's own words, the camp killed his love of the game which is so sad as he should have finished playing at AFC like he he said he intended to do before the camp.

The camp was an unmitigated disaster which destroyed the fabric of our club when we were in a premiership window.

Those mostly responsible have now left & hopefully we get the refresh we need to move on. Milera signing on for 5 years is a sign Nicks has changed the vibe of AFC.
Kane - 3 paragraphs that perfectly sum up the camp, it’s affects/results and outcomes.

Nothing more needs to be said

I recall the CEY camp thread was locked with John being smashed from all sides (even by non-Crow posters), and this isn’t the first time he’s dropped a subtle one-liner about the camp since then. One could hypothesise that he feels like there’s still some great miscarriage of justice that hasn’t been resolved which is what we’re seeing play out here.

We saw the same pattern with Marty carrying on about the drafting/non-drafting of Doedee/Burton-J.Scharenberg. Little snipes here and there in unrelated threads to try and see if someone will take the bait so they can launch into a diatribe on their pet topic again. Given how long that took to work through, we may still be hearing about how the 2018 camp was a supposed non-issue years from now.

With the main architects of the camp now gone from the club, most people will be able to view Milera’s decision to sign on in the appropriate context.

With this contract I like that we’re showing confidence in backing our younger players instead of what looked to be going on by favouring tenure and experience, and hopefully Milera can repay the faith and deliver the goods over the next 5 years. I get the sense that he’s a confidence player, so having that security should impact positively on his game. Don’t mind if we use him to setup play from the halfback flank, but think his class could be more damaging in a midfield role.
Don't name one name them all

Graham over pohlkoke even galluci for that or Hayward over galluci or Burton over doedee

Just trying to find out if our biggest problem is the go go.e factor

Really not that hard to fix

I like the part where he reminds me "This is a civil conversation" even though I've been arguing with him in good faith and keeping it pretty civil.

I enjoyed the "I'm standing up for myself this year and not responding to mean people" spiel

At least they will know they aren't mean.

The worry is that his view is that he's been shouted down before. Just how often would he have posted if left to his own devices?

Guys just to put a bit perspective in the all the stories on how the indigous guys left the club because of the camp, these are the name brandy about that left the club and some that remained.
Cameron left before the camp, and the full true story may never surface. Happy partner happy life
Hampton retires due to medical reasons, full stop, vertigo being one issue.
CEY signed a 1-year extension after the camp, he left for better opportunities and a very good contract (overs perhaps) nothing more nothing less.
Eddie - game time, after being told the Club moving in a different direction. Happy Wife Happy Life, Twins and more Family support.
Davis signs a 2 year extension in 2019
Milera just signed a 5-year deal and was always going to stay.

Maybe we can blame the Camp but who cares it 2020, Let's just put the camp where it should be in the past.

Pretty much. It's happened. The damage has been done, but we've closed that book with getting rid of the main instigators.

It’s more the damage it did to the playing group
You'd probably find the weight of expectations coming off a GF appearance (especially in a town like Adelaide where everyone is up in your business), and spending 2 years dealing with a clueless coaching staff who decided to go 180 from everything that made the team good caused just as much, or even more damage. Half the team admitted they crapped their pants for the big day, so I may not be a total surprise to learn those same guys may buckle a bit when the "OK, you made a GF, now we expect you to get back there again" expectations are on you again and again.

As Eddie said, they were wracking their heads trying to fix it and it's not working, everyone gets frustrated, even more so when the L's start hitting. Throw in poor communication, getting dropped, being told you might not be in the future plans, or course a guy isn't going to enjoy that environment.

I'm not writing the camp off at all, I've said my piece about that, but it wasn't just an isolated incident, it's just the first slice of the shit pie we served up in 2018 and 2019.

Sorry, I felt they got the sack because they didn't bring the results? Your inference about the Camp, would have made more sense if they all got the sack back in 2018.

Junior, being an up and coming indigenous player, is an important signing because we've had 2 departed (Cameron and Betts) and 1 had a premature retirement (Hampton) since the GF. Even if the Milera signing had nothing to do with a statement regarding the Camp, it still has an important implication that we are a welcoming club for Indigenous players. Which I think is an important issue, whether it is intended as such or not.

They got the sack because they created a toxic culture. The camp was them isolating themselves from any responsibility and letting the players know that they blamed their mental state entirely. And it went downhill hill from there.

John, our coach resigned, our GM was sacked, head of strategy sacked. That's a lot of water under the bridge. It's the largest shake up we've seen at the club in ages. Maybe Milera just likes the new regime and he wants to back them in.

5 years is a long time but he's rumoured to be getting married to a local girl so maybe he just wanted the security of a longer contract so he can start a family knowing he wont need to uproot himself and move. The club also likely saved some money by signing him up long term.

Nothing about this suggests the camp wasn't a disaster. Had he signed up for 5 years under the old regime, maybe you would have a point. He didn't though so I don't know why you keep trying to convince people the camp wasn't a huge mistake.

Would think that shake up would be monumental at any club, not just ours that historically holds on to sub-average people for way too long. Head of footy, senior coach and senior assistant/HoS all shown the door in the same offseason. I can’t recall anything similar occurring in my time taking notice. And this from a board culture that hailed the return of the Triggster. Although, we know the board wouldn’t have acted on our 3 blind mice if not forced.

Where do we play this guy? We've moved him around a number of times, but aren't getting the return on investment we should be seeing for a pick 11 with 60 odd games to his name.

At half back he looks a million dollars one week, but then goes missing for a month afterwards. He went at 86% DE on Saturday, but 211m gained for a player with his skillset in a side crying out for decent ball users, is a poor return. It was a David Mackay type game.

His attack on the ball hasn't been the same since the shoulder, and defensively he doesn't play with the desperation of say a Doedee.

He has a pretty good tank, so should be able to run out a game in the midfield. Wing might be more his go though?

Needs to do more.

With his size and skill set he should be an elite breakaway midfielder in the Danger/Martin style.

If we’ve spent another high 1st on a half back then it’s another massive fail for Hamish

5 year deal looking shaky. Our list management has to be questioned. We cannot be sure the best decisions are being made anymore.

It hasn't been a great start to the season by Jnr.... his 5 year deal isn't at top end of town money however I think we just need to put him in the midfield and let him off his leash

I know it's not big money but the principal is that he hasn't actually made it as a player you can bank on yet. You really shouldnt be giving contracts like that to players who havent shown they will be top end talent players.
Milera COULD be that player, but I'm not buying it right now. He has always been timid in between the ears and it impacts his game.

I want more killer instinct from him and I fear the lack of experience coaching is having an impact on his career. He needs a coach who is at the top of his game to site Wayne down and tell him he is wasting his talent. Whether its half back or midfield it doesnt matter. He wont perform in either position right now until this is done. All the time in each position isnt going to fix it.

I don't get the impression that he's particularly being held back. If he was really shining at half back or wherever then you'd say yeah, why isn't he getting more midfield minutes. Right now, though, you barely notice him. Put him in the midfield and most likely we'll just be not noticing him in the midfield instead of not noticing him at half back or half forward.

Needs to seriously lift his intensity, and do it for 4 quarters week in week out, not a good half once a month then go back into his shell.

Gets a five year extension, he's content with his lot in life now!

Move him to a wing and at the same time give him a rocket, just jogging along as a player at present.

Been a lot of talk about this lad, but the truth is he had provided nothing off any note to date. Ok he's had an ok game here and there but for all the talk of his talent and the extended contact he is just an average footballer. Compare him to some off the early draft picks in the last couple of seasons and with 60 odd games under his belt it's time to call a spade a spade. His chase on Boak on Saturday is reflective off his career effort so far
