Defending is for people with no talent.

Settle down all you defenders, I’m only (half) joking.
Best defenders are the ones which are offensive & can still defend.

Midfield is where you put people who can't defend and can't kick for shit.

Feel like the wing would be his best position in an ideal world. He doesn't get exposed as much defensively and allows him to attack higher up the ground. Pre all the injuries, he was one of our best in the time trials for memory too. That said, hard to tell if he can get back to pre injury level or not just yet.

agree all though, HBF might be the bigger need, from our currently listed players i'm more confident of finding another decent wingman than i am of developing a good hbf

I feel like hbf is one of the easier positions to play and shouldn't be all that difficult to fill - although who that is at the moment, im not too sure.

But we had Brett Reilly looking elite one season off half back, no offense to him but he wasn't exactly flying prior to that, should be an easier position to fill and one used to blood up and coming players in.

We need to have the right balance of outside players who can use the ball, who ideally can switch between HBF & wing if need be.

Milera, Smith, Hinge, Hamill & Parnell are all in this category.

was very uninspiring outside of the Carlton game where they brought zero intensity. Still, was out for 2 years, so maybe doing anything was a positive sign. But he had flatlined prior to injuries, so I dont hold out much hope that he can reach the level I thought he'd get to.

I think the list management team would be placing Milera close to the top of the list of players ranked by skills.

This positions Milera as one of the most important members of the team, and he started to show his value last year in his goal assists.

Given our potent forward line, the link up player is now a critical need. Our game plan is based from turnover, created by pressure particularly from the midfield.

The outside role player who can accept the ball, get through traffic and deliver to the forwards is crucial. This is Milera's role, and I can't think of a better player to execute. Maybe Dawson, but I'm not sure he has the deft touch of lowering the eyes and hitting the chest quite as well.

This is why IMO we will persist with Milera and his form/ injury inconsistencies, and I'll be watching him closely this year for the work he does approaching forward 50.

Agreed. Gave us a real taste last year with some of his lace out passes to a leading Fog last year. Seems to be a bit of chemistry there already, would love to see that continue to evolve.

We really showed a lot of persistence with him last year when his performances didn't deserve a spot in the team.
He needs to start delivering in a big way this season, and not with only a couple of nice kicks a game.
Sometimes I wished we tried Cook a bit more instead of Milera last year

I see we're at the talking Wayne up stage
Yeah, I have jumped off the Milera train... hopefully reverse psychology.... but with all the young talent coming through, I think it's more likely we invest games elsewhere.

I'm taking anything significant from Milera as an unexpected bonus.

We tried Cook but he flat out didn’t compete at times

Keen to try him again though and hopefully with a bigger body he will be more confident

Haha, there's no doubt he's skilful, it's just a matter of whether he can finally make an impact.

prior to the 2 years out of the game through injury he'd flatlined as a bottom few of the 22 player. Expecting him to resemble a high quality player is wishful thinking at this stage. But there is hope.

They also played him hff alot late in the year which is not his position at all. Felt like they were just giving him games for fitness / keep up with the speed.

Hopefully back to HBF or wing or outside mid

Started this thread after 11 games. And never since have I thought he has lived up to any expectations. Close a few times to think maybe. But nope.
Ok, he's only 11 games into his career, so it is waaaaay too early say one way or the other what type of career he is going to have.

But right now I just wish I was seeing more from him that had me thinking "yep, he's going to rip apart a game one day"

I'm not seeing top level skill, run or determination. He's clearly not a dud, but he's a first round pick and needs to judged by that level. And right at the moment I feel like his game is a bit... nothing.

Too often we see him stand back while the tackle is there to be made, the defensive effort is very poor, and I'm not getting any sense of him making up for that by being a goal scorer.
Convince me I could not write exactly the same thing now after 79 games.

No way you could still think hes maybe going to rip a game apart some day.

Hes not only soft, he has a shit attitude. He used to look nervous and unsure. Now he looks arrogant, lazy and too cool for effort.
Waaaaay too much hot air has been blown up this guys arse by people at the club over the years. Hes bought into it 100%.
