Player Watch Wayne Milera

Bobby Hill is a potential match winner and was blanketed out of the game in conditions that - sorry to inform you - suit zippy small forwards.

This is why I wonder if some people on here really watch games, or if that old rumour that only 10 people regularly post from 40 different accounts is true - if you haven’t worked out - 10 games into the season - the Milera’s role in 2025 is shutting out the opposition’s most dangerous small forward - and that he’s 10-0 - then I’m not really sure why I’m discussing footy with you.

Bobby doesnt like the wet.

Keep defending him. Lockdown small defender now. Ok. I'll add that to running patterns and shape keeping.

You can't defend the mistakes I called out from yesterday so you change the discussion to a "body of work" narrative. Not sure how you can't see what everyone else can which is his reluctance to get his hands dirty...a basic requirement of a lockdown small defender I would have thought.

You know what Mileras true comparative should be from yesterday? Josh Daicos. How did he go?

Neither has Wayne
Yeah shutting down the opposition’s best small forward and at least doubling their possessions just isn’t good enough. If he’s not also getting 30 and 700m gained, he should be dropped, maybe even beaten. I’m also concerned about his lack of hit outs and contested marks inside forward 50.

This is so fun on the nufties bandwagon, I don’t even need to watch games, I can just say what everyone else is and they’ll think I’m smart!

He doesn't "shut down" anyone.

He's in the side to be an attacking half back, can you tell me when hes done that this year.

I cant wait for the imaginary story

Milera was outstanding against Carlton and many of his critics acknowledged that at the time.

The frustration with Milera is most know what he is capable of, it's his lack of application that is frustrating.

But to say he is performing well is stuff of fantasies.

Even if he is a small defender these days then play Bond, he is cheaper and better at the role. We won't miss the 700 yards gained and 30 possessions because we ain't seeing them anyway.

Let's be honest though. Bobby Hill has kicked 4+ goals twice in his 98 games. One of those was the Grand Final.

He is a good small forward, but his reputation was elevated by that grand final.

Hamill kept him to 11 touches and a goal last time as well.

Correct, I was very hopefully that game was the start of something for Junior.

It wasnt.

He ranks at average or below average in every statistical category.

But yeah hes going well outside of that.
Still burying the lead? Not sure if its more of a coincidence that you created this account around the same time the ‘Milera Experiment’ started or that you’ve managed to watch 10 games of a player you’re obsessed with and somehow haven’t managed to work out what his role is. Hmmm…curious.

This account was created last year ??

OK Champ.

You're having yet another mare here

Because he was playing Hinge's role for the game, while Hinge was out!

I'm kinda happy with Wayne... but he's not pulling out the "beautiful disposal" enough. He's making too many mistakes. I can handle him with mid-teens posessions, as long as they are damaging.

Again, it's not what role he was playing, lock down defender or rebounding hbf, it's about his application.

In the Carlton game he was aggressive, attacked the ball carrier and was creative with disposal.

He should be bringing those attributes every game. That's the frustration.

No small forward, depending on how you grade them, has kicked more than 10 this year so that stat proves nothing either way.

Not even sure he gets the best opposition small forward most weeks either. Depending on matchup that role could also fall to Max or Laird.

I would swap him and Cumming. Cumming has been out to sea on the wing and could use with his more familiar HB role. And moving Milera up the ground might allow him more of the ball and to be more damaging.

Given the way we use our wingers that's probably not going to get Milera more of the ball.
