Player Watch Wayne Milera

You’d think we’ve already been told no to lock Milera away so early
I can't see any other reason for signing him so early (if at all) other than he is being used as bait to entice NWM to the club. If not, we are sticking true to form in signing mediocre players to generous contracts.

I struggle to get too worked up about this.

It is 100% clear that the club views him as being firmly in our best 22, so a two-year extension was the minimum they were going to offer. Is three years too long? Probably. Oh well. Perhaps the extra year means a bit less money per year?
The club really hasn't earned this kind of optimistic take on the situation, especially with Milera of all people. "Perhaps they didn't totally **** this up like they did last time".

This club needs to be gutted, so many losers in so many positions.

Milera plays the easiest position on the field and we have a plethora of players that could/should be getting a go in that spot.

Milera is not a youngster finding his feet, he'll be 28 by GF day, he aint getting any better.

A 3 year deal is absolute madness.

They aren’t close at all, can’t see how Milera would be a pull vs the connections he has at Port

Nicks will stick by this guy accumulating 16 of the most mediocre possessions a game playing the easiest position on the field meanwhile actual elite midfield talent like Sid Draper gets dropped if he's not averaging 25 touches a game at half forward from stuff all game time....

Don't worry, you're not the only one that thinks he's been ok, has he hit the heights we thought he would pre-injury run, no. But he certainly isn't in the doghouse either, couple of clangers but no orphan. been mostly solid. There are other players I'd be worried about (looking at you Laird) before Junior. The only issue I have with 3 years is durability is yet to be proven, on field not an issue for mine.
Yes all fair but none of those things say "give him three years in Rd 10 of a contract year".

Especially considering our depth and we bizarrely give promising younger guys like Hugh Bond a dead man walking 1 year deal.

On its own no, but the symptom of a much bigger malaise as you are well aware.

As mentioned we could run Draper through there and not get much change in output

We have Edwards etc

3 years looks ok as long as the money is relatively cheap and the appropriate options/triggers are in place.

I don't like wishing injury on any footballer but Junior is one knee injury from being finished.
The Adelaide Football Corporation has not thought anything through here.
The duty of care for Wayne if he does happen to suffer another knee injury and the costs associated with it if it happens.
A year deal would have sufficed.

The five year deal was good in theory but unfortunately Junior spent most of it on the sidelines.
The corporation could be getting games into Ryan and Edwards but instead placed their faith in a 28 year old injury prone player hoping he will come good.

The corporation gets what it deserves if young players leave for more opportunity.

No it doesn't. He should have been offered a year deal and if he left so be it. He hasn't done anything to warrant a 3 year deal even on peanuts.

Except the knock on effect, as has been shown countless times before, is that he will continue to get picked. We are very loathe to drop senior players on long contracts.

And we have 2 first rd half back flankers stuck behind him and Laird.

It reeks of must have experience and too little faith in the talent we haven’t seen yet

The club is a reflection of the supporter base.
Speak for yourself lol.

But yes, unfortunately so many refuse to criticise the club even after countless poor seasons & poor decision making... which allows them to get comfortable knowing we can't do anything to sack them as members.

And then have to let go of Levers, McGoverns, Camerons, because we can't pay youngsters overs as all our senior players are on overs.

Gonna go against the grain here by the looks of it and say he's picked up his game to a decent level as the year has gone on. Started poorly as he always does coming back from injury and really shouldn't have been playing in the 1s.

Definitely wouldn't have given him 3 years though. We've had some very good list management in recent times and this is poor. Very injury prone and not a very important player.
Last Saturday he was one of our worst.

It would be greater bait if they let him go and opened up a spot for NWM

Last time that happened you complained about the result. Imagine doing the same thing again.
