That’s what we get for opening with a turtle

The game Wilson makes a duck we will win
Sydney Thunder didnt go hard enough in the first 10 overs for me. But yes they probably left around 20 runs on a wet weather field at CitiPower.

Thunders strength lies in their batting , so losing the toss and fielding 2nd was never going to be to their strengths.

Our strength is hoping Wilson lasts one ball. Unfortunately she’s wasted half the innings both games. Our batting order is terrible too, why did we sign Attapatu if the plan is to bat her at 5? Just go and get a middle order bat!

Thunder were 67/2 after 10 overs on a wet Junction Oval outfield. Thats not good enough. Lack of intent and actually I felt anyway, Wilson the longer she stayed out there, especially in a game potentially with reduced overs, it helped the Gades.

Gades the team to beat now at 2-0 and Thunder are 0-2. Will take a huge turn of events for the Thunder to make the Grand Final from here.

Still not sold on Athapathu batting at this level. She had a rather poor campaign last season. Although Ill pay her some dues, she did bat well in Game 1 at Allan Border Field against Hobart. Hobarts attack though looks plunderable ....as I think they and the Thunder have the 2 weakest bowling attacks in the comp. Better teams will be able to score big totals on them I feel.

If the plan was to bat Attapathu at 5 I’d have rather not signed her at all. Go after a middle order bat/hitter or a keeper. I’m over this Wilson fiasco she may be fine in 50 over and List A but she’s woeful in t20.

lol at us making a GF we won’t get close and we lose Knight again for finals.

Honestly feel our best shot is go with our best 3 bats in the top 3- that’s Voll, Lichfield and Knight. I’d go Attapatu at 4, Leyroyd at 5. Harris at 6 (floating), then the rest

What am I missing with Heather Knight? Do the English ladies have a fixture somewhere that means they all go at one stage?

Athapaththu is 35 now, turning 36 and I dont think she is the fittest player going around . Maybe carrying a couple of kilos over. If you Thunder fan your banking on her to hit boundaries as she is slow running between the wickets. Rarely will you get 2's with her at the crease. Do feel on a ground Like Junction there are plenty of 2's on offer. Georgia Voll is also more reliant on her power than her athleticism- like Athapaththu isn't the fastest runner between the wickets.

Knight usually does do and I’m fairly sure I read they have some series do hope she plays the whole series but I’m used to them leaving.

To be honest Attapatu either bats in the top 4 or doesn’t play. I’d have loved us to go hard for a Charli Knott type or a Tess Flintoff it’s that extra middle order bat we lack. Good ole Voll and her running is a laugh she’d be an even better cricketer if she dropped a few it may be the thing that holds her being a mainstay in the Aus side

Yep it is definitely holding her back. I thought her part time spinners were effective today. She got 2/24 from her 4.0 overs and I didnt know that she had bowling up her sleeve. Still Id imagine opposition teams will still target her when she comes on for the rest of the tournament.

It was embarrassing seeing her being our best bowler though to be fair she is fairly accurate

It’s something I hope she works on even if she doesn’t bowl every game having another part where you can contribute. We don’t carry too many specialist bats these days in the Australian side

And speaking of Charli Knott, I dont think she should be opening the bat for Brisbane. Really should be promoting Chinelle Henry or a power hitter to clear the boundaries in the Powerplay.

Knott is a player that needs time to settle in for an innings. I think her approach in the opener cost Brisbane the game.

Think she can open but I like her in the middle myself just feels a natural 4/5

The last time Sophie Devine played at Allan Border Field, she picked up 2+ Wickets and scored a ton which included 4 Sixes. Perth do need her to fire if they are going to challenge Brisbane tonight.

According to Google satellite, there should be an advantage hitting to the Matthew Hayden Stand/Stuart Law Stand.

The Sixers are on the receiving end of a hiding at North Sydney Oval against the Hurricanes. Good to see a team beating up on a team of individuals.

Sixers are Gardner or bust

The bowling attack looks pretty pedestrian too

People that have followed the Sixers closely, have noted : Perry, Healy and Kerr are coming to the end of their careers. They are no longer the same powerhouses they were before. They command a team based on their name and reputation.

The Canes whilst I dont reckon they played that well, showed they are the better all-round team tonight.

Sixers tail wagged but the loss can be attributed to that senior core, and Gardner/Dunkley having off nights.

That score they posted was about 15-20 short at North Sydney Oval.

Still don’t get why you go out and get Dunkley when you had two openers. Just seems silly. Dunkley also more rocks than diamonds as a player

True. They had Ecclestone and Kerr last year if I stand to be corrected?

Kerr has struggled too with the bat in the past 2 seasons. Give credit to Silver-Holmes who bowled out of her skin last night and rightfully got Player of the match.

Their imports last night were: Villiers, Dunkley and Kerr. I actually dont really understand this obsession with getting English imports. There are better players I feel around the world these days and depth wise. Think WBBL missed a trick not trying to get more Indian players back this season.

Wasn’t Silver Holmes in their squad too. I just don’t get the Sixers squad it’s all unbalanced and it’s the same as last season what happens if Ash/Perry don’t fire?

Hobart have really structured their side well clearly the team to beat and don’t lose players

Ellyse Perry is attackable when she comes on as a bowler and she doesn't accelerate greatly with the bat these days. if your a half decent player in the comp, you don't fear going up against her I feel.

Ill say it again, Sixers tail did well to wag last night but the Sixers left about 15-20 runs in the field. Really needed a 165-170 minimum last night.

Clearly Hobarts strength is their batting with: Lizelle Lee, Wyatt-Hodge, Sciver-Brunt. And you have players around the fringe of Australian selection that probably are not in the current national setup: Villiani, Carey, Graham. It does look a solid Top 6 but Im still a bit skeptical for them against better teams eg Renegades.

Sydney Sixers best 3 players last night were: Maitlan Brown, Cheatle and Caoimhe Bray- which is probably an indication of where their future lies.

You almost have to make them bat first and hope you can defend them to 175, you’d still have to bat really well. Not as sold on the Renegades this year they looked better last year

A note about the Brisbane v Perth game on Wednesday, Charlie Knott had a shocker. 2 dropped catches, meandering for 32 off 30 when the required run rate was well in the double digits and then running out her captain( not looking to sacrifice her wicket for a power hitter). Knott has failed to push on from a couple of seasons ago when her name first came to prominence.

Also how did the Brisbane Heat management come to the decision to take the Power surge in that chase in the 18th to 19th over in that chase?

To put this into a bit of context at the start of the 11th over:

Brisbane needed 106 to win with 10 overs to go with 8 wickets in hand.

If that was too early,
Brisbane needed 80 to win with 6 overs to go with 6 wickets in hand. Still no surge.

Very next over, Henry hits a few boundaries,

Brisbane need 66 to win with 5 overs to go with 6 wickets in hand. Still no Power Surge.

The thing holding them back is management and game situation decisions.

Instead they take the Power Surge really thinking Chinelle Henry would guide them home needing 47 off 18 with 5 wickets in hand, as Charlie Knott just departed.

Not sure but Charlie Knott who probably had some say whether to take the Power Surge as she was at the crease at the time didn’t look quite switched on out there on Wednesday. This my friends is what is holding Brisbane back from contending. On paper they have an extremely deep batting lineup.

Think Knott needs to be at 4, she will become an opener in time but for me unless they are open and say it’s a move for 1-3 years down the track right now she’s not ready for that role.

The surge is the worst thing in cricket, honestly feel it’s half the reason of our issues that have come recently in the top level. Batsmen have been lazy in the WBBL (and bbl) where they can plod in the first four with a surge to come. I’d rather they go back to the first 6 being powerplay or at least reduce the surge to 1 over and make the PP the first 5.

Maybe. Stoinis was one guy that said it should be aligned with what the international rules are.

I like what the Power Surge does it create 'uncertainty' and chaos. im of the the opinion if the required run rate is above 12 an over in a chase, you look to take on the Power Surge especially with a power hitter in there eg Chinelle Henry.

But for me, Brisbane as a whole, their team and management showed the lack of cricket smarts the other night. Im pretty sure when it comes down to that scenario, the batters at the crease Knott and Henry had the right to take the Surge when they felt comfortable. Knott departing in the 17th over just before the 18th over, getting out to a big shot was made even worse.

Stoinis isn’t wrong. Streamline it there is no point playing one way and having to play differently internationally. 6 overs of powerplays is good means openers have to use those overs

And having the surge in the W/BBL means we get a misrepresentation of the strengths of those middle/lower order batsman and that maybe they aren't as suited to the international game as the casual observer may think they are
