A note about the Brisbane v Perth game on Wednesday, Charlie Knott had a shocker. 2 dropped catches, meandering for 32 off 30 when the required run rate was well in the double digits and then running out her captain( not looking to sacrifice her wicket for a power hitter). Knott has failed to push on from a couple of seasons ago when her name first came to prominence.

Also how did the Brisbane Heat management come to the decision to take the Power surge in that chase in the 18th to 19th over in that chase?

To put this into a bit of context at the start of the 11th over:

Brisbane needed 106 to win with 10 overs to go with 8 wickets in hand.

If that was too early,
Brisbane needed 80 to win with 6 overs to go with 6 wickets in hand. Still no surge.

Very next over, Henry hits a few boundaries,

Brisbane need 66 to win with 5 overs to go with 6 wickets in hand. Still no Power Surge.

The thing holding them back is management and game situation decisions.

Instead they take the Power Surge really thinking Chinelle Henry would guide them home needing 47 off 18 with 5 wickets in hand, as Charlie Knott just departed.

Not sure but Charlie Knott who probably had some say whether to take the Power Surge as she was at the crease at the time didn’t look quite switched on out there on Wednesday. This my friends is what is holding Brisbane back from contending. On paper they have an extremely deep batting lineup.

The other thing that Brisbane needs to do is swap Redmayne and de Klerk in the order

Redmayne has an ok strike rate, but the only season she's had an SR over 120 is back in 21/22 when it was 120.05 - this year she's currently going at 126.66, but it's based on 19 runs from 15 balls faced over 2 games

Surely she's not the player you want in that lower order when you're looking to try to boost with late first innings runs or bring it home in the second innings

Meanwhile, we saw how good de Klerk was for SA down the order in the recent WC, and would think she'd been a more suitable middle/lower order partner for Henry

And having the surge in the W/BBL means we get a misrepresentation of the strengths of those middle/lower order batsman and that maybe they aren't as suited to the international game as the casual observer may think they are

I agree 100%. It promotes lazy batting in the later overs

It looks a decent batting deck doesnt it?

Greg Blewett saying 'fast outfield here'

Always is here

It’s so hard to defend a total

You’ll need every piece of 180 and that’s unders

To be fair : North Sydney Oval, Allan Border Field and Citipower Centre are the other 3 great batting decks in the WBBL.

I expect Drummoyne Oval for the double header maybe to be a bit more harder for runs compared to those 4 grounds.

Drummoyne is a weird ground plan to go there it can take a fair bit of turn you don’t want to bat last on the second game

Alana King doesnt quite look 100% to me. I think she picked up some sort of niggling finger injury in Brisbane on Wednesdya.

Might help if the fielders would be half decent

For today's second match

Teams

Strikers
Tammy Beaumont, Laura Wolvaardt, Madeline Penna, Tahlia McGrath (c), Bridget Patterson(wk), Ellie Johnston, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Jemma Barsby, Sophie Ecclestone, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown

Renegades
Courtney Webb, Alice Capsey, Naomi Stalenberg, Deandra Dottin, Georgia Wareham (c), Davina Perrin, Tess Flintoff, Nicole Faltum (wk), Sarah Coyte, Charis Bekker, Milly Illingworth

Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl

Perth doesnt have the power hitting in the back end. Something to bear in mind come the rest of this tournament.

Schofield, Hinkley, Kemp and Mack are all average recruits.

As with a few other sides, the Renegades coaching staff need to review our batting order as the top order isn't really working for us to start this season

I'm still not sure of Stalenberg's role in the team unless it's as professional fielder - she doesn't bowl, and has now for the second time found herself coming in below Wareham in the batting order

As I said the other day, until Molineux is available to return, I'd be dropping Stalenberg and bringing de Broughe into the side, and having her open alongside Webb. Then drop Perrin down the order as she seems to be struggling to adapt to the Aussie conditions at the moment

The commentators just mentioned that Wareham batting at 5 has come in with the score at 3/13 against Brisbane (was a rain effected match we needed to go from the start), but since then it's been 3/23 against the Thunder and 3/42 tonight

I'll be frustrated if we go with an unchanged line-up into our 4th match and not really addressing our poor starts with the bat

In the Spring Challenge, de Broughe was opening with Webb. I thought de Broughe did well enough to earn a starting spot here. I think she is a better bat than the English import Perrin. But I guess teams feel the pressure of having to play 3 imports each game.

If we really want to play 3 imports each match, we could give Wong a match in place of potentially Coyte who's selection at times seems similar to that of Stanelberg as a specialist fielder as she doesn't always bowl, and when she does it may only be 1 or 2 overs

I want to see us look at options rather than seemingly waiting for Molineux to return before we shake things up

Emma de Broughe actually got player of the match in one of the Spring challenge games as a batter, so I definitely don't underate her ability with the bat.

Issy Wong can whack a few with the bat, and she adds more all round with bat and ball than first season import player- Perrin. No question on that. Wong was batting as high as 7 or 8 in the Hundred the recent season.

I'm looking at us tonight and we've batted all of Wareham, Faltum and now Flintoff ahead of Stalenberg

If we're going to pick a specialist visit fielder can it be the 25yr old rather than the 31yr old - have something of a look to the future

Georgia Wareham seems to be playing with a point to prove. I reckon being number 2 behind King might hurt her (in the national team)

It would be hard for her to make the national team if Gardner and King are in the first XI.
