Small bugbear of mine for a couple years now: If they're going to use crap names like the Eliminator and Challenger, surely they need to commit the whole way and do the same for the "final". Gotta at least be The Decider or, idk, the Monster Bash...

A campaign to draw an unprecedented WBBL crowd mirrors last year's efforts that resulted in an unprecedented 86k flocking to the MCG for the Women's T20 World Cup final. I would've been happy to see 5k at the under-construction WACA for this game, but I guess now I'll be disappointed with anything less than 20k given the decision to play it up the road (terrible look for WA otherwise).

What's guaranteed is a new champion, with the trophy being shared around by Brisbane and the Sydney teams until now. Fitting if it's the Strikers to buck the trend, since SA were the ones to end NSW's 10-year WNCL streak back in 2015/16 (albeit largely thanks to Sarah Taylor, though the usuals all chipped in--including Sam Betts, who may or may not be out there for the other team on Saturday).

The Scorchers have arguably been the most consistent team across 7 seasons (2x runners-up, missed finals just once). Likewise Devine the most consistent player. But that also means consistently falling short at crucial times, which thankfully for Perth is not the M.O. of dual final BOG Beth Mooney. Nor Marizanne Kapp...

2020/21 WBBL Player of the Final: Shabnim Ismail
2021 The Hundred Player of the Final: Marizanne Kapp
2021/22 WBBL Player of the Final: ??

If the South African theme is to continue, of course Kapp is still in the running, but so too Strikers players van Niekerk and Wolvaardt.

Yeah they tried that but I guess it needed to be more distinctive like "the Travelator", or whatever, to catch on.

Scandalously, the official rules call it the Grand Final for the BBL but simply the Final for the WBBL!

I didn't think to look earlier: It was reported 20 hours ago that "around 17,000 tickets" had already been sold, so that puts us on track for a monumental breakthrough in women's domestic cricket. Forecast to be a 36 degree S c o r c h e r which might keep some away.

Looks like the ideal match-up has been achieved though. The old system wouldn't have allowed for a Scorchers v Strikers final, so the new format has arguably been validated after these last two thrashings (depends on if we think those results were compromised by 4th place fortunately getting two knockout matches at home).

Their team seems quite bowler-heavy, with Carmichael the last recognised batter at #5

Devine and Mooney not really looking in good form, contrary to their actual previous form... nerves? or too long not playing between the last match and this one? or first game this season on this pitch/stadium? hmm
