Ladder after Game 34:

Renegades need to somehow need to win at least 4 of their next 5 games and hope other results go their way.

Perth are looking to like a well-oiled machine right now.

King had a bit of a slow start but she has got into the groove.

Its even better that also Nat Sciver-Brunt didnt have to come out and bat today as well.

Perth v Thunder down at the Junction promises to be an absolute to cracker tomorrow.

Tomorrows battle

is Athapaththu v Sophie Devine

Easily the 2 best imports this season in terms of consistency and performance. Worth the price of admission alone.

Lets hope also that the WBBL can retain the English imports until the Grand Final. But at the moment, it maybe will mean the English imports if they make the Grand Final, will probably be unlikely to play- which throws another spanner in the works.

To be fair I reckon Heather Knight has probably been the 3rd best import after Devine and Athapaththu so far.

I dont think Kapp has set the world on fire. Gibson has had a reasonable tournament.

As a Gades fan I'm looking at the positives - if we keep stinking it up, we get the first selection in next year's draft

Generally speaking I know that may have been said with a bit of tongue-in-cheek but a 1st pick in an international draft, I dont think its that valuable.

I mean in terms of international recruits Perth of all teams did nail their international player selection this season. It was a case of retain Kapp or Sophie Devine. I was a bit skeptical that Perth decided to choose Devine instead of Kapp. But that decision now from Perth is looking like a million dollars.

I do feel that the international draft is almost a case of 'the best of the leftovers'. And judging by this season anyway, im not sure if there are players worth retaining for the following season in terms of international players.

Athapaththu was for instance a player that slipped through the whole draft completely.

Going back to the WBBL 9 draft:

ULL LIST OF WBBL DRAFT PICKS

1 – Sydney Thunder

Marizanne Kapp (RSA)

2 – Perth Scorchers

Sophie Devine (NZ)

3 – Melbourne Renegades

Hayley Matthews (WI)

4 – Melbourne Stars

Alice Capsey (ENG)

5 – Hobart Hurricanes

Shabnim Ismail (RSA)

6 – Brisbane Heat

Amelia Kerr (NZ)

7 – Sydney Sixers

Chloe Tryon (ENG)

8 – Adelaide Strikers

Pass

Picks 2, 3 and 6 were all 'retained players', 11 for Wolvaardt from Adelaide was also a retention player.

I totally agree about the draft - I think that us in particular are too reliant on our internationals, especially this year and that the depth of our Aussie players isn't strong enough

I know both Molineux & Vlaeminck are unavailable, and we were stupid to not look at replacing Vlaeminck with a quality speed bowler - but not sure where they'd both sit in terms of national selection at the moment even if they were both fully fit. I'd think Vlaeminck would be around the fringes if in form, while Molineux may be in the outer with the emergence of Wareham & King

It would be great to add one or two quality Aussie (international) players to the squad next year, and then use your international selections to compliment that

I do agree with you on Hayley Matthews though. If it didnt work last year and looks like it wont be happen this year- then a change of leadership isnt the bad thing. Renegades finished 2nd last in WBBL8 and look odds on for the Spoon this season.

As good as a player she is, I feel like with the West Indies they almost bank on her to be the top player. She is a very much an individual player rather than a team player. I think of it almost like basketball for some teams its better to have 1-2 stand outs in a team for the overall team to play well, for some teams you need a good mix of 4-5 players to play well as a team.

With WBBL you need a good team , more so than a good set of individuals to do well.

I almost see Hayley Matthews as the Chris Lynn equivalent of the BBL. If they go down, you almost kill the hopes of their whole side in one throw.

For those planning on going to Junction oval tomorrow

I was planning on getting there early for the first match - hopefully that'll mean no interruptions, but I'll check that
