Hodgey wants to see the boundary ropes pushed back for the MCG games........heaven help the Gades if that happened.

What was Sarah Coyte thinking there? Coming down the wicket, with the keeper up. Strange.

She is strong enough to play from her crease.

I could ask the same for a few of our other batters also

Prestwidge giving herself space, but too much space and could do nothing but and uncontrolled swing at the ball

This is the 1st time Ill admit, there isnt enough depth for 8 teams in the WBBL. Probably an ideal number is 6.

That was horrendous from the Gades that pretty much seems their season.

No demons in the pitch thats for sure.

There is room for 8 WBBL teams, if you have the best Indian players possibly available and English too. Or I wouldnt be opposed to seeing 4 imports per side in an 8 team format.

Melbourne Renegades score of 101 today is the lowest score batting 1st at the Junction Oval in the past 25 games.

You cant explain that performance in words.

Dont know why the comms kept bringing up Net Run Rate. Even if Hobart chased this in 17 balls, their net run rate would be too far back from the Thunders........

Since Thunder and Hobart have a No Result each, a boost in NRR is unlikely to improve Hobarts chances.

I can understand Matthews playing at 4. Hodgey in comms was of the opinion i think she should open.

Dont agree with Wareham at 7 though. She is too good a bat in this lineup to bat that low.

Beaumont and Kaur are thinking about their internationals on after this tour. They both look distinterested.

Duffin plays 1 good innings every 6 or 7 innings.

Coyte and Prestwidge could possibly be batting higher.

If Molineux & Vlaeminck were fit they'd be in the Gades best 11 ahead of de Broughe/Duffin and Prestwidge/Kennedy

That suddenly strengthens our line up and we'd be stronger than any 11 we've put out this season

I'm not sure more internationals is necessarily the answer as the top teams seem to have strong local contingent and the international players compliment that

  • 6 of the top 10 run scorers are Aussies with Mooney leading the way
  • the top 14 wicket takers are Aussies

When looking at the two Melbourne teams, I don't think we've got our balance right with the squad selections and that's a bigger issue than the number of internationals we can select each match - plus we'd probably stuff up the selection of the extra international anyway

Dooley started this season batting at 3, and think that's where she batted last season also - she's since been moved to 8 or 9 (match dependent) and barely getting a look in. But we saw today she was one of the few to show decent technique out there and probably should have been batting higher

Webb had been showing good signs in recent seasons coming in down the order more as a finisher. She had a good innings when partnered with Kaur early in the season, then got bumped up to 3 where she didn't do much and has struggled since - up there as my most disappointing player for us this season and I think she'd be disappointed with her season as well

Wareham gets promoted up the order, has scores of 47*, 44 & 57* in the space of 7 innings, and now back down the order

We look like a team that is comfortable with the selection of about 9 players, but doesn't know how best to use them and 11 games into the season is still moving the magnets around to find working combinations

Matthews looks to be a lot more consultive out in the field the past couple of matches compared with last weekend - I've also noticed her involving Duffin in a lot of those conversations or even 1-on-1 chats with her

Wonder if it was something the team was pulled up on after last weekend

You wouldnt want to show this game between 6th and 8th to your grandkids.

There is a reason why these two teams are in the bottom 3 at the moment.

Hardly been an enterprising chase by the Canes here. Commentators throughout commentary have kept talking about 'Net Run Rate'

if your chasing a target of 102 to win, you dont really want to be leaving to the last over do you?

That why I reckon its been strange intent from the Canes in this innings.

Heather Graham "nah we're not worried about the table"- probably an indication that the Canes dont care about their season.

Given the intent they showed with the bat, you would want to look at the table as well...just never know how much NRR might come into play.

And to be fair the way the Canes played today, they played like a side that didnt look like they did have a look at the Table.

I mean they won the game but it almost felt like they were just going through the motions.

That was such a flat finish to the game - after the drinks break it was just a bit meh and even when the winning runs were hit, there was really no reaction from players are the crowd, just a "oh yeah, that's it"

Even last week with the Scorchers smashing us it was more lively

Just reflecting upon the English performances at this WBBL:

Beaumont= Fail
Capsey= Below Par
Bouchier = Fail
Dunkley= Epic Fail
Knight= Good
Nat Sciver-Brunt= TBD as she came late
Georgia Adams= Pass
Bryony Smith= Fail
Bess Heath= Below Par
Danielle Gibson= Good with bat , average with ball.

Fair to say the UK players have struggled out here.

Wondering if a full retirement from cricket is edging closer

You would imagine so? I mean the Stars next game is a trip to Perth, so id imagine the wear and tear of travelling city to city...eventually gets to the players'. Like AFL, when a player loses the desire..it can go pretty quickly, especially if your team is losing regularly.

When she first announced her retirement in press conference , I was thinking this would be her swansong campaign as well.

Game 47:
