The really noticeable thing (especially today as I'm at the game), is the lack of intent to turn the strike over, especially by Matthews

She seemed to be continually looking for the big shot, and the two balls before her dismissal she was visible frustrated at hitting the fielders and not the gaps. It just felt a case of hit out or get out by Matthews with her frustration growing

And it's a noticeable difference immediately with Kaur now in and these two are picking up the singles when the big shot isn't on

Duffin though seems like the player that can do well if she gets a few balls under her belt eg around 15-20 balls or so. So this might be a good situation for her to rebuild the Gates innings.

Beaumont cannot get firing in this tournament can she? She too is really struggling to power hit as an opener.

I feel like Beaumont was seen as an option to somewhat anchor the innings, while the likes of Matthews & Kaur were seen as the power hitters who'd do the damage

Unfortunately we really haven't got enough from Matthews, and Kaur has been a bit hit & miss, which is putting pressure on a few others in the line up

If Matthews was at even 75% of the form she showed against Australia, I think things would be going differently for us

The Commentators are doing a good job of trying to sell the 'Stadium Round ' concept at the MCG between the Renegades and the Stars. Saying that there was 90,000 for a game before a mens game between the two teams a few years back.....you'd be lucky to get 5,000 to watch these teams anywhere right now.

Yeah, there's never been close that many in attendance

Maybe 9000 is what they meant - it's a game I would have attended and it was a case of sit where you want in the limited open seating, as they weren't opening the whole stadium at that time

All 4 Vic BBL sides have been useless for a while now.

The problems when Cricket Victoria stepped and merged the operations of the two clubs - prior to that they'd been independently operated, and competitive

That was a major step backwards for both clubs

I do admit in a stadium of that capacity, its probably not a good look for the stadium, with it being at 10% capacity.

The commentators will do anything to sell the WBBL 'Stadium Round concept'......but you would imagine if these two teams are on the bottom of the standings- it will be a difficult sell for the Victorian/Melbourne public.

The commentators did say there ' was a large attendance before a mens BBL game' a few years back And one of them said 90,000.

Im assuming it was a WBBL game before a BBL Game on the same day.

Lets make no mistake, the mens product is what helps sell the women product, not the other way around. (And no I don't want the females to come out and attack me)

Tomorrow will be telling for what could potentially happen in a fortnight - how many will turn up at Junction Oval to watch the two teams, as there's really not a lot here today

I don't mind the concept, but maybe something to consider for future seasons is to have this as a cross over with the BBL - so the last round of the WBBL before finals, and the first round of the BBL, with all matches played as double headers

If you were Cricket Victoria right now, you would have meeting with both teams and you would be pleading with both teams to give the public a nice good contest.

Im not sure if we will even get that tomorrow. Just realised the derby between Melbourne teams is on tomorrow.

I think they're talking about this game - so, slight exaggeration in crowd size

The BBL match which followed had a record crowd of 80,083 - I believe that's still the largest BBL crowd

Here is an Idea , Send them to Geelong? Or even better, bring back the Canberra Comets?

Move them to Geelong - already got a strong following there, and crowd wise it won't necessarily be smaller than what we get at Marvel

And plus with the T20 Mens world cup last year, and past Mens Renegades games, and given how good the Geelong Mens team football club go, they do alright with sports teams round there.

Im all for Geelong getting a team at the expense of a 2nd Melbourne team.

I know it was double headers with the men's matches back when the seasons crossed over, but the few times the women played down in Geelong, we definitely had larger crowds than what's in attendance today

Junction Oval is nice, but it's not necessarily the easiest to access

Regardless of all that though, these two teams need to be operated independently of the other, and the chance to again form their own identities. I'd also go as far to suggest that since the board merge, the communication to and value for members hasn't been the same

Don't know Melbourne that well but I came to the Junction Oval via a Tram. Im assuming that would be the main method to get to the venue?

And Junction Oval capacity doesn't look like it hold mould than 7,000.....im gathering a WBBL game has never got more than 3,000 there?

And the Renegades finish on 133/5 off their 20

and Perth will be happy with that despite that little fightback from Wareham with her 55.
