Why would the umpire warn the batter against damaging the pitch when only they have to bat on it.

Has to be fair for both sides. There’s run penalties if you do it
 
Why would the umpire warn the batter against damaging the pitch when only they have to bat on it.

That's always seemed a weird situation to me - if the other team still has to bat I can totally understand it, but when it's the last innings of the match, how is it negatively impacting any team other than themselves
