Well it would be fair to say that both teams have a seriously bad case of the staggers at the moment.
For a team that made "The Big Dance" last yea, the Crows have been serious underachievers in 2018.
After a 10 -1 start to the season with a solid 3/4 against the Saints WC, seemed to be tracking well. That was before they prematurely put the "cue in the rack" at three quarter time . That "slack attack" has been hard to stop... momentum is a funny thing in most sports and its folly to toy with it.
About the only thing that Crows and Eagles supporters would agree on this week is that injuries are a pain in the arse and can very easily derail a season.
So both group of supporters could be forgiven for feeling a bit glum.
The truth is that both groups of supporters are going to learn a lot about the constitution and character of its list this weekend. In many ways, it's going to be a battle of who wants to get back in the winners circle.
The St JoG Injury list has been mounting every week for the Crows and they haven't had much continuity in playing stocks, whereas the number of healthy Eagles forwards are dropping quicker than a plane of skydivers.
More specifics to consider:
1. The "Free Agents" match up : will Sloan go with Gaff and determine who has the highest price on their heads for overtures and enticements from the Victorian Clubs.
2. Will The Gov be deployed to the forward line and remind the Footy World who is the Best McGovern in the forward line.
3. Does Tommy Barrass play ????? if he doesn't the probability of Gov playing forward lessens.
4. Does NN put in a blinder after the taunts and criticism from Messers Brown and Reiwoldt this week questioning his toughness against the Drug Rats last week.
5. Does Simpson get creative and manufacture a forward line that is capable of kicking a winning score.
6. Do we go with and under whelming McInnes again ?
Time for the West Coast Eagles to get back to basics and playing at our "Home Away from Home" Adelaide Oval, its again " Time To Hunt " ........ its now the time for all to deliver.
Forget about stoning the Crows its time to get out the shotgun and blast the Crows off the park.
NN it's his time to step up, answering his critics and put in one of his blinders.
The WC forwards and those shooting for goal to put the ball between the big posts ( I know a novel idea given our last two weeks goal front accuracy ).
Let's exploit our ruck dominance and get first ball use and pass the ball with purpose and flair with lowered eyes and swift ball movement.
I am really looking forward to seeing how we respond as a team as a collective to this challenge.
A good showing from our lesser light against the Crows will set us up for a gutsier second half of the season.
Hell the last time we lost two KPD before the season started in earnest we thought all was lost...... YET we managed a way to manufacture a game play and with the kids doing their bit we managed to claw our way to a Grand Final.
Foot skills and smarts aren't going to win this one for us .
Its going to be won on the back of character, balls and a never say die attitude.
All the players do their bit WE WIN.
IF WE WANT IT ENOUGH ...................... the game is certainly there for the taking.
Eagles in a close one 8 points.
