Its not a swing and a roundabout

Melbourne are one of too many clubs in one city - we play them away from the mcg because they are one of the unsustainable vic clubs

Every year we dont play them at the g is a valuable mcg expereience game weve lost

Bare in mind i think that's more so the fault of the VFL not giving us MCG games very often.

I don't think it has anything to do with how sustainable Melbourne is. We have played them either at our home ground or in Alice Springs.

FWIW, I actually like the Alice Springs game, it is a beautiful ground, fits with our clubs identity well, and is half the distance to Melbourne.

We ask (and receive) 3 games at the MCG every year, and have done so for a while now. We play more games at the MCG than any other club that is not an MCG tennant, including the Victorian clubs that are based at Marvel.

Club Number of MCG Games in 2020
Adelaide - 2
Brisbane - 2
Fremantle - 1 (in round 1)
Gold Coast - 1
GWS Giants -2
North Melb - 1
Port Adelaide- 2
St Kilda Saints - 2
Sydney Swans - 2
Western Bulldogs - 3
West Coast Eagles - 3

We also have a home ground that is far wider than when we had issues at the MCG, and we have a training ground with MCG dimensions. Since the beginning of 2018 we have won 7 of our last 9 games at the MCG. Whatever results we have at the MCG this year, it will have nothing to do with where we played Melbourne Demons. There are so many legitimate issue about the fixture (always going to Tassie & arguably too many trips to GMHBA). Complaining about us not getting enough games at MCG is somewhat lacking in perspective.

In 2015 before playing a gf at the g we had one game there that year

The problem isnt when weve done consistenly well its when we are bounding up the ladder

The issue is we previously had the longest and one of the narrowest grounds and the MCG is the widest by quite a margin.

It is no coincidence that as soon as we changed to the wider ground at Optus our we started playing the MCG better.

Not only that, but the last 3 years West Coast has asked, and received 3 games at the MCG.

Literally we get more games at the MCG than any other non-MCG tennant.

If we were to play Melbourne at the MCG, we would be playing Hawks in Tassie, or we would be playing Collingwood at Marvel.

You're living in 2015 (or maybe 2006?) when we a) didn't get many games there and b) were no good there.

Neither of those things are true.

We get ripped off by the fixture in so many ways, but the number of MCG games (as of recently) isn't one of them.

Then why did you make the comment in regards to this years fixture?

We got 3 games in 2018, when many expected us to drop out of finals contention.

You might be right, the AFL chooses to prioritise MCG games for clubs expected to do well that season.

However, that doesn't explain Brisbane, GWS, St Kilda and Port all getting less than us.

Brisbane and Port are firmer favourites to contend in 2021 than we are, but yet have less games.

Like I have said now in the last couple of posts. The club submits a fixture request to have 3 MCG games and they have received 3 MCG games for 3 years running, and are the most frequent non-tennant team to play there over that time.

You're trying to make an argument that just doesn't exist.

Geelong is an MCG tennant. They have two MCG home games every year.

Your argument falls over as it doesn't have any actual merit to it.

We get more MCG games than any other club who is not an MCG tennant, including having more MCG games than other non-Victorian contenders like Brisbane and Port and more/equal MCG games as Marvel tenants like St Kilda and Western Bulldogs (both of whom are also flag contenders).

Literally, we get exactly what we ask for in terms of fixtured games at MCG.

Sunday afternoons - like 2018, bodes well.

Sunday Derby as expected - gives an 8 day break after the trip to Geelong.

Sunday against Hawks is a plus - full 7 days for the trip to Melbourne. (I was half expecting this to be a spanner thrown at us with travel on a short [5 or 6 day] break).

As good as it can get from these two fixtures, really.

Regarding fixturing and the MCG we should approach Geelong to 'buy' a Geelong home game to be played at the MCG. The one they play Richmond.

Win win.

Cats get Richmond to travel to Geelong for once and play at Geelongs home ground.

Eagles get another game at the MCG and Geelong get legitimate home ground advantages in both games. They don't give away a massive advantage to Richmond.

Eagles pay for the difference in crowd numbers and $ that is normally made by playing Richmond at the MCG.

Thinking the AFL would sign off on that is pretty delusional imo. They want as many Richmond games at the MCG as humanly possible.

At this point in time our 3 weeks going into the bye look pretty good.
Good to bring a few guys back on limited game time and also good to give a few weary soldiers an extra week rest.
On the flipside the 3 games after the bye are going to be a great tester to see where we are at so will need our best team possible firing.

According to the west - Full house allowed for Pies game.

That will be a busy night!

My experiences with the phone scanning for entry has been pretty good - maybe slightly slower getting in but I get the feeling that is mostly caused by people over 55 attempting to capture the ‘SafeWA’ QR code by blocking a walkway and using zoom on their camera (for some reason).

The turnstiles themselves have been relatively pain free.
