As I am a footy nerd, and the AFL player Ratings twitter page is not operational this year, I am keeping track of the player ratings of Eagles players for 2023.

I am using AFL Player Statistics to get the stats.

I'll update this after every round. All I am doing is inputting what rank each player has for their position after every round. This will be an average of every round's player ratings. I am then dividing the player's rating by the total players in the league who have played that position. This gives them either an elite, above average, average, or below average ranking.

EDIT 17/05: Underneath I have included my record of the 2023 games played, sorted by age group.

OP has been updated.

WCE now has two elite players:
  • Tom Barrass, the number one rated Key Defender
  • Luke Edwards, the thirteenth rated midfielder 🤪

Purple shading on the player's name means they played their first game. Purple shading on the position means their position has been changed.

As of Rd 4:

Elite: 2
Above Average: 8
Average: 9
Below Average: 13

LEdwards: 16 possessions for 12 contested, 2 centre clearances and 4 clearances in total.

Clearly the rankings like those stats, as he also had 0 tackles, 0 inside 50s (albeit six score involvements).

Nice work LEd.

Kids a natural out there. Never looks rushed. Hands are really good in tight too.

Would be super if he can get a good block of games now.

Tonight, as I updated the ratings, my beloved watched me and commented "Why would other people want to see that?"

Well, despite what my wife thinks, the OP has been updated after round five.

Waterman has finally been recognised as the 5th best key forward in the comp. I thought of tagging certain posters, but decided against it.

As of Rd 5:

Elite: 1
Above Average: 13
Average: 8
Below Average: 11

I've been on holidays but am back now so restarting this.

Hopefully I haven't made any errors due to missing it for a few weeks. Please let me know if you spot any errors.

Observations: Maric's solid form has been a real positive. Hard to believe he has only been in the AFL system for several weeks. He is currently ranked the 25th Key Forward in the AFL. This is better than Riewoldt, Hogan, Hipwood, and Franklin to name some. Not bad for an 18 yr old Key Forward in a sh*t team.

Speaking of Key Forwards, Allen is suffering from having to be sent to the backline but is still ranked 18th in the comp.

Improvements are coming from Petrevski-Seton and Petruccelle.
