that and it's not here yet, so they can 'wait' - i'm sure there'll be another reason not to take novavax once it arrives.
Not in the timeframe these players would need to play next season.

I think a fair few of them are genuine. I live in Malaysia and know a few Pfizer refusers, who did take Sinovac -(Chinese deactivated virus vaccine) in order to not be blocked from so much of society. They're dug in so far against the current vaccines, but want to re-join society. Novavax will give them a way of saving face, not backing down on their stances, but re-joining.

Years of known vaccine technology with lots of safety data behind it. Novavax is a new company but the protein sub unit vaccine has been used for decades and is used in yearly flu shots.

Typical nonsense sprouted by people accusing hesitant people of the new tech and labelling them antivax. These statements are more likely to harm vaccine rollout. Shaming someone who has made their own decision in choosing to vaccinate with a vaccine they are comfortable with.

Unless it's changed recently, flu shots are inactivated virus or live altered virus. Hep B vaccine is a subunit protein vaccine.

Yeah it's a weird one.
They don't trust 'experimental' vaccines (that have been administered to tens of millions of people) but will wait for an (experimental) vaccine that isn't approved yet.

There’s three different vaccines that are currently available. If one concerns you, go get one of the other ones.
Refusing all three on the ground that there’s a fourth one that is probably coming out eventually that you’d prefer to take is pretty hard to justify.
All three approved have never been used in widespread vaccination programs (aside from very new ebola treatments which use viral vector).

I am quite confident that if/when Novavax gets approved, the vast majority of the 'let's wait for Novavax because I've done my research' crew will kick the can further down the road in order to avoid taking vaccinations even longer, even if they may publicly claim they are not anti-vax.

I've debated anti-vaxxers for years. This is the standard way they behave: state their position as something just outside current knowledge or technology. As soon as the technology catches up, they immediately backflip and shift the goalposts.
The classic one was the presence of thimerosal (a mercury containing compound) in trace amounts in vaccines. For years "I'm not anti vax, I'm just against injecting kids with mercury!" was the standard line. Then as soon as technology advanced to the point thimerosal was no longer needed, antivaxxers immediately abandoned this line of attack and moved to some other excuse.
I guarantee that as soon as it becomes possible for Novavax to be available, antivaxxers will instantly change their position to be against Novavax and for some other vaccine that hasn't been produced yet. Wash rinse repeat, endlessly.
My hairdresser is antivax. Completely full of shit. Racist, too, like blatantly, "oh flipping Indians I can't stand them". Cannot get through to her, I don't bother. She's a really nice lady, but you just flipping can't have a conversation with her about political, social, or medical issues because she's dumb as shit but she actually thinks she's smart. It's so sad and frustrating.
