In Australia we would lose 1,500 per annum under normal circumstances

We have now had covid control for 2 years and lost less than 3,000 from covid.

The median age of death for covid has been higher than the median age for all deaths

We are now facing a low risk version of covid with double and triple vaccination and the stats are speaking for themselves.

oh and do you feel we shouldn't use risk matrix of probability of an event and the risk outcome? Should we work on emotion and fear as the pressure gauge?

I ask again, have you ever seen lockdowns, masks, quarantines, vaccines to contain the spread of a flu in your lifetime? Like many Australian's you have a very sheltered and selfish view of the world because for the large part we have avoided the catastrophe that unfolded in other areas, we've been very fortunate.

With the Eastern states opening up we have had 750+ people die in Australia from COVID in 2022 already, half of your flu stats per year you keep trumpeting. Did I mention we aren't even out of January yet? Doesn't bode well for something people are writing off as just a mild virus.

And just how much of a factor do you think lockdowns, distancing, masks etc were in keeping that number to around 3000? What do you think the number might have been if we hadn't locked down? Also, bear in mind that about 600 or 700 of that 3000 has occurred in just three weeks of 2022, fatalities are running at triple the pace of the Delta wave. There's an argument about how to handle it with vaccinations but you 'it's just a flu' nonsense is just that... nonsense. I mean, is that you, Jack Darling?

The whole taking a vaccine to protect others narrative surely is ready for the bin seeing it doesn’t actually stop
The virus spreading. The only person Jack is hurting is himself.
Confidently incorrect. Having the vaccine absolutely reduces the spread to other people, as well as reduces your own chances of hospitalisation. Given increasing hospitalisation strains the system, which then affects everyone, it's not a harmless stance.

yep and a person who is unlikely to have serious impacts from covid

  • so no benefit re spreading
  • statistically no benefit re taking for omnicrom (I would argue differently for delta)
  • just a punishment from the government for calling out there policies and misinformation (most made in good faith but proven false over time) made over the last two years

Oh great, can we not turn yet another thread into a meeting place for anti-vaxxers?

I'd rather this is just a thread to make jokes about a West Coast player refusing a drug.
Use the report button 👍🏻

Thread is about WCE player Jack Darling, it’s not a platform your personal views on vaccination and death tolls. Take it elsewhere.

The Brisbane Lions have just made a similar announcement regarding Cam Ellis Yolmen. I wonder if there are still a few players from other clubs to come.
