Especially considering he wasn't even an active wrestler for the better part of the Attitude Era ;) (I know you're probably referring to late '97 model DX).
Not only am I referring to the Montreal Screwjob, but also passing the torch to Austin the following year at WrestleMania.

Amongst the many reasons of the stupidity of the robocop/sting team, did they not realise how absurdly violent Robocop 1&2 were? They were ultra-violent, satirical action flicks, not cartoon fluff for the kiddies!

Explain what wasn't awesome about Gillberg.

When The Rock brought him back for one of his concerts, hahahaha.

It was alright at first, but don't you think having him hold the Light Heavyweight Championship for a year (and pretty much singlehanded killing off any credibility that the WWE LHW Division had built up in 1997-98) was milking the joke just a tad?

Wasn't the fact that he very rarely defended the title part of the joke? I remember Essa Rios taking the title off him.

it was still a half-arsed version of the WCW Cruiserweight Division at best

Gillberg not defending the title also had a lot to do with the fact that we was fired or let go during most of the the period and they brought him back in a one off deal to bring the title back. Which considering the continuity of it really makes WCW's mistakes completely ******ed.

I think of lot of WWE's "Attitude area" **** ups are looked at more favourably is that...well there still around and they werent the major level mistakes that WCW made. They didn't have a perfect show but what you recall failing didn't stick around too long either.

you guys should read The Death of WCW. most of what has been posted is from the book. great read.

got it and very eye-opening stuff

It's funny reading back over alot of these, you don't realise how bad they were back then, but you look back now and think WTF! How did this company draw me in so much.

Still prefer wcw over wwe/f

WCW >>> WWE. Its a shame it was run by ass clowns. They had the best wrestlers but never used it to their advantage.
Brett Hart being a ultimate fail. The dude could have had the company built around him and they failed to do so

Probably didn't help that he barely gave a shit his entire time there

He was too busy crying about retaining a title in Canada.
yeah and not being paid fully for months before that

Having his contract breached and his bos lying to his face

Yeah he was just whinging

Refusing to drop the belt before he left the company wasn't the answer either however.

Don't get me wrong, I love Bret, but he was clearly still sooking for pretty much his entire time there until Russo came along and the megapush started.

Although "who are you to doubt El Dandy" is probably a greater legacy than a serious top run anyway

he was happy to drop the belt, just not to Shawn and not in Montreal.

one idea that was suggested in the latter part of 1997 was was for Bret to keep the belt until WrestleMania XIV in Boston and drop the belt to Austin, a re-match from the previous year, this time a clear winner being decided... then Bret leaves WWF for WCW... would have been the true passing of the torch between the "New Generation Era" and the "Attitude Era", no screwjob, and we probably would be seeing Bret working for WWE again in some capacity today
