This pleases me, as we have been a team that has dropped "winnable" games in the past. We have now beaten everyclub in the comp in our most recent meeting except for the 2 benchmark sides, Geelong and St Kilda.

I feel this stat has something to it as it must give the playing group confidence that they cn work to be better than anyone and are capapble of matching the top 2 clubs.

Pretty useless until we manage to get over the two big dogs I must say.

Plus you have to remember how quickly things change in football, over one pre-season even. We've continually beaten Sydney, but that will be one of our hardest games up there this year, they are a completely different team. Same could be said for Brisbane, even though we accounted for them last year they will be tough to beat.
The big one of the ones we have beaten will be Freo over in WA, they are far from an easy beat now.

So while it's nice that we've beaten 13 teams the last time we have met them, with the exception of the 5 we have beaten this year, I don't think it counts for much... if anything. It's a whole different ball game year from year.

Gotta beat Geelong and St Kilda for it to mean anything. H&A form is nice, we get to beat up on Richmond and Adelaide, but the real test will come in the finals, where we've fallen short.

So good we can beat outselves now! :p

13-2 ;)

Nah I say we are 14-2, the number of times over the past few years I have seen us "beat ourselves" and lose games we should have won easily is almost too high to count.:D

Verses Saint Kilda this year being the perfect case in point.
WE lost it they did not beat us.

This is the one that matters:

2006 Elimination Final - Beaten by the Western Bulldogs
2007 Preliminary Final - Beaten by the Geelong
2008 Semi Final - Beaten by the St. Kilda
2009 Preliminary Final - Beaten by the Geelong

All VIC Teams, The top 4 of the last few years.

Good post, but in saying that I am happy with our start to the year and things do look promising. That's coming from someone who was skeptical at the start of the year, picked us for 4th - 6th might have to revise that.

Go pies.

On current form if we were playing them this week. We would have to go in as favourites. They smashed Tigers but Carlton made them look second rate. Geelong have come back to the pack a little whilst we have gone forward.
No Ottens too.

We all have nightmares still about Ottens tearing Bryan and Richards apart in that prelim, would Jolly have made a goal difference? Every chance.

Fraser would have been at least a goal improvement on those two :thumbsu:

Yep, Geelong is going to be a massive test, they are still the benchmark. I don't think they've come back to the pack at all, they have virtually the same premiership winning team on the park. They lost to Carlton, yeah, but we smashed them by 90 points one year as well. I don't think you can read too much into it, they'll stll be a force come finals, plus Carlton have proved somewhat of a bogey team for them as late.
A true test of our youngsters will be how well they stand up against Geelong. It's all good to be praising Dawes for kicking goals on Simon White, but are people going to be as quick and willing to bring out the knives when he only get a handful of possessions against Scarlett as they were for Jack Anthony?

Sidebottom, Wellingham, Beams etc, won't find picking up possessions and goals as easy as they have so far this year when we face Geelong.

We might be 5-1 this year, but I wouldn't go revising things just yet. I still think Geelong will go into the round 9 game as rightful favourites and I still think we'll have a fight on our hands to finish top 4.
We've certainly improved, thanks mostly too our youngsters, but we ran out of gas against one of the top teams in St.Kilda so there is clearly still a gap. Regardless of how much you want to blame it on our poor conversion, they still run over the top of our youngsters with 1 man on the bench to defeat us by virtually the same margain they managed in finals.

There's a lot of hype floating around about the Pies at the moment, but there is only so much you can take out of wins against teams like the Blues and Bombers. They aren't going to be around at the sticky end of the season, so we shouldn't get too excited about beating them now.
