Essendon haven't put a worse side on the paddock in 5 years. GF weather, a great reality check for MM. Some aren't going to make it, and we all know whom we are talking about. Bucks must have felt like it was 1999 again.
Our defence is past its used by date. The harder teams run, the slower we look. Wakelin - has been serviceable, but don't expect nothing more. Notice MM couldn't hide his frustration with
McGough at 3/4 time...quality, not quantity.

Another 2 I want to talk about:
Cloke - He can't kick....see that attempt? didn't just miss. he missed b/c he can't kick a football.

Molloy - thanks, back to Willi, and off the list end 2003.

Brisbane don't have a Cloke, Davis or Molloy on their list. Nor should we.
I think Rhys adds more to our side than Leon.

We had an off day, but we have the same problems and deficiencies, that when exploited, we get done e.g. junk time goals.

God thats an understatement!!!! With 2 straight losses & Rocca's lacklustre performance in last half.... Maybe I am being too harsh but geez very frustrating watching the game  Still I know its early days yet and 'Pies are still in top 8 of the ladder. And there is always next week's game to look forward to. :)

dissapointing loss.. very!

Lokan - should be dropped, and remain at williamstown
Davis - dropped until he kicks a bag
Johnson - learn how to stay on your fuking feet
Fraser - learn how to ruck !!
Rocca - shameful..
Woewoden - read above ^
Lockyer - we really need ya!

i dont think collingwood have enough players who can run and jump and be effective in both areas.

sad sad day.

That was bloody terrible. They all went to ground too easily and practically gave up in the last quarter. I hope that's the last time we see them play like that this year, because if not, it's going to be a long one.

I agree with Nick we had an off day. Your very harsh Bucks.

Lokan was not disgraced. He's gun shy at the moment - he's not runnin' and backing himself. His strength and why he's in the side. Why hasn't he been tried as a wingman/forward. Has pace and can "kick".

Leon deserves a stint at Willy. needs confidence to run hard at the ball. he's a shadow of the player he was early last year.

Johhno had a "go". battler who lacks polish, but has good dash.

Josh rucked well i thought. At least we won the hit outs and he found our players. 2-3 years away from his best. needs TIME.

Pebbles had a bad day.

Lockyer would've struggled like anyone today. His form had tapered from early last year before injury despite a VG pre-season form. Needs bulk.

Woewodin like A.Williams struggles when were not "winning" the ball. They are not ball winners, they receive. Lack pace.

We have lost flair with Nick Davis leaving (and 30+ goals)
Don't "use" our players with genuine leg speed enough.
Didak is not creating goals himself at present.

Positive - Were still 3-2 and thank god Essendon played like that in round 5 and not in the finals against us. It's a long season, but, hopefully not sign of things to come.....

I haven't seen today's match yet because I was at Box Hill, but so far into the season I have been impressed with Lokan and think he has earnt a spot in your best 22.

WHAT'S WITH NIC THE PIE MAN?
I HAVE NOTICED HE IS THE MODERATOR FOR THIS SITE. AND NOW 2 POSTINGS HAVE BEEN DELETED/CENSORED.
SO ITS OKAY FOR COLLINGWOOD SUPPORTERS TO GET ON HERE AND BAG THE TEAM, THE COACH AND ONE ANOTHER, BUT IF A CONTRIBUTOR FROM ANOTHER TEAM DECIDES TO.. THATS NOT ON!!!

Because you are a useless f*cking troll only here to start trouble.
Just as your previous posts I deleted here were.

So just p*ss off this board. No-one gives a crap about what you have to say.

3 main problems.

1. Most of our midfield cannot kick
2. Malthouse had a shocker. His matchups were pitiful (Cloke and Johnson up forward??). He has got to stop selecting his lovechilds. Molloy is a write-off (we cannot afford the luxury of an "impact" player), McGough cannot kick and every time he gets the ball it is a guaranteed turnover. How L Davis remains in the team astounds me. He hasn't had a kick since about June last year.
3. We have no small defenders apart from Johnson

Surrpisingly our rucks were quite good yesterday, and the form of Josh is encouraging. Tarrant and Didak fought hard, and Rocca just had a bad day.

Lucky its only Sydney next week.

Agreed i though josh did alright when he got out there, was fighting well for every ball at ground level.

To me, your mob looked leg-weary half way through the second quarter. Trip to hot Brisbane for a physical game, followed by another hot day on Friday didn't do much for your cause.

If I were a Pies supporter, I'd be most concerned about the lack of desperation. I reckon that's what got you so far last year. Even in your ordinary years you were always desperate.

Cannot agree more.
When there is little pressure, we can get chopped up. ie. WCE & Bulldogs 2002.

Essendon played against witches hats for the last qtr.

Its hard to say this early that we are a worse side than last year. Just remember second time round last year Essendon flogged us at the MCG. Moorcroft dominated and we looked like a rabble. A few weeks later we beat Port over there with Buckley missing.

At least by getting a flogging i hope that this will serve as a reality check for our team that they will have to work very hard to climb their way up the mountain again. Players like Leon Davis may need to be dropped for them to wake up and start playing good footy.

Josh has to improve quite a bit in my opinion. He was only up against Alessio and Hille, hardly the cream of the crop when it comes to ruckman. Gardiner of the WCE has really developed into one of the best ruckman in the AFL and Josh needs to head in that direction and step up and play some really good footy.

This is the time when we need some young blood to really kick start our season like McGough and Cloke did last year. Cole, Swan or some rookie needs to step up and add some fresh blood to the team. I don't expect a Jarred Brennan or a Luke Ball but at least someone who shows some good signs.

Well I'm hoping that C'wood didn't just have an off-day, but I guess time will tell.

I remember though, after about 10 mins of the first quarter saying "I don't like the look of this, the pies seem to be on song" and it wasn't simply that you had scored the first two goals, the C'wood players were running and hitting targets with good foot passing.

Then it suddenly all turned around.

One thing which may be relevant was that our players finished off each quarter better than the woods, and by the last quarter the woods didn't seem to have anything left. Might there be a fitness issue?

What win-loss ratio were we at this stage were we at last year? 3 wins/2 losses and we made the Grand. Next week Sydney (home game),then Crows away (haven't beaten us since 2000).Things don't sort themselves out till about round 13-14 so if we can be 8-5 or better at that stage think we will have done OK.As they say, after the result in 2002 , we are the hunted now not the hunter.

Its a ruck issue. No resistance, well less than normal, after 20 mins of each quarter.

A comment I got from an an ex Weagle many moons ago that was that MM's game plans required significant concentration which was tiring in itself. Give it to a young group of players and he may have a point.

It's been a funny old season.

We've seen about one good quarter of our best all year and still bustled our way to a 3-2 record.

I think the problem at the moment is our usual rock solid defense is like a hot knife through butter, when the pressure is applied. Last year they soaked it up and we built many an attack from the defense and despite the fact we got killed in the ruck/guts generally it held up quite well. This year we are paying.

The forward line has been good up until last week and the midfield is doing okay...with the exception of a few usual suspects skills not being up to par. (also taking into consideration we are without the exqsuisite skills of Lockyer and added Williams who is pretty average by foot)

Need to start grooming a young centre half back. If Clokey can't hold it down, we sure as hell better draft one with our first pick next year. In 2001 Wakelin was a hack. 2002 he had a career year. He's just about back to his former dudness right now. *alarm bells* If i see him do his losers limp one more time Ill run out and give him a reason for medico attention.

Cloke had a ****er of a game why cant Mick just leave him in the back line he was fine there, no need to bring him forward. Johnson was bloody good might not be the best kick but who gives a **** he got the ball plenty and has pace. Lokan was crap his worst match this year a little concerning he was 10 metres behind his opponent all the time, cos he is pritty quick. The one backman i still dont rate is Presti but given that he just came back from injury i think i can cut him a little slack even though he was bad. Molloy ive always hated sure he can ruffle a few feathers but in footy if you aint tall you gotta be Fast and although Molloy is strong he is dead slow. Davis has been bad but he is a game turner he is the type of player that can kick about 5 in the first and seal the match and go missing the other 3 then again he has been the player that has done nothing for a while. He will hit back and kick a bad soon. needs consistency. Woewodin aint been that bad give him a brake

One thing that did hurt was Clement wasn't up to his usual best down back sure he wasn't a disgrace but he wasn't the steady ship of previous matches, especially late on.

If you dont beat Sydney this week, you are officially G.O.N.E as you have no chance against Adeliade the week after.
That would put you are 3-4 with a bad percentage.

Sorry woods, but season defining game against Sydney this week. Please play Leon and Molloy, please.

sydney game is very important but wouldnt go so far to say its season defining. the first month was always going to be questionable after a late preseason and against traditional rivals in richmond, carlton and the bombers(all 3 of which are clearly better than most give credit to), a game against our bogey side geelong and a trip north to play the best side in the country for decades. every side would love to be 5-0 but 3-2 is about where i think most fans expected. the problem obviously is the way we've been beaten in the last 2 weeks. we've lost lockyer who is as important to collingwood as francou is to port or grant is to the dogs. not flashy but a goer who can take a cupido etc. trying shaw, lokan and walker hasnt worked overly well (although lokan looks ok) but its given them a chance to prove themselves.
the past two weeks has shown us up badly for intensity - very little desperation and willingness to run to help mates as we did continually last year. anzac day was the collingwood of old as the rest looked on at buckley doing all the work. sydney have given us problems in the past too, although they dont seem to be flooding all that much anymore, even at the smallish scg, which caused us problems a couple of years ago when we could only manage 7 goals against them at telstra dome. dane swan and rupert should be in and maybe also scotland for freeborn, lokan and davis. dont think molloy has been as bad as some think, despite anzac day where he was hardly alone in under performing.

We were pathetic on Friday! No excuses.

The most disapointing aspect of the game, was that it seemed to me that Essendon just wanted the ball so much more then our guys.

How often did you see Collingwood players waiting for the ball, while Ess players would just go in and get it. We got slaughtered at the stoppages...which is ussually our stregth.

We have to many passengers in our side...players that do well when the side is doing well...however when the pressure is on, they just go missing.

And I've never seen Malthouse put in such a bad coaching performance. Why in hell he would play Cloke forward when its so obvious that he is NOT A FORWARD. Why the hell was Burns on the bench??

And Woewodin...is a dud. As simple as that. Would have to be one of the worst brownlow medalists in the game. I'm sick of defending him (with other pie supporters), that bit of play when he got pushed off the ball by Mcveigh was team demoralizing...no less. He made McVeigh look good for god sake.

Tony Francis was traded for a similar incident at Vic Park against Westcoast.

Whats worrying me so far this year, is it seems that we are very predictable. Watching the games, I find myself predicting where our players will kick the ball before they do so.

If I can predict what we're going to do .... then i'm pretty sure opposition teams have figured out our game plan.

When i saw the Coll-Bris game i thought that your guys might be a bit flat against us on ANZAC day. The physical and mental pressure your players put on Brisbane was absolutely awesome. But unfortunately 100+ minutes is a bloody long time to have to maintain that pressure, especially against a superstar team like Brisbane. Add interstate travel to the equation and you have a fairly physically and mentally exhausted team. It wasn't a huge surprise that they looked tired for the last 30 minutes of the Ess game. Personally, i wouldn't read too much into the ANZAC day game if i were you.
