We are afraid of winning

Also noticed that Ratts ran out of steam in the box - when the tide turned at the beginning of the last qtr he looked stunned and sat back looking helpless..

Carlton kicked 21 goals including 9 in the third quarter.

Fev was traffic, Betts, Stevens, Judd and Kuedner? were all very good for your lot.

I don't believe your afraid to win, sometimes teams can forget how to win, over all the umpiring was poor tonight but the moden game has become way over umpired.

... moden game has become way over umpired.

Yep, almost like the old days of the 10 goal third term that made us great.
pity they stopped three minutes too soon.

and yes, umpires need to get a grip and back off..

i still refuse to believe it is fitness that causes us to lose games. yes we may be young, but (leaving stevo, judd, hadley, fish out due to coming back from injuries) simmo, thornton, carrazzo, cloke, houla, bannister, scotland, betts etc have been in the system long enough to know a game last 4 quarters. hell, murph and bower are into their 3rd year in the system. its enough preseasons to gain the fitness to run out a game.

which brings me back the point that we just do not know how to finish off a game of footy.

i think the problem starts when your very best players run out of steam...Stevens especially and Judd also.

essentially Ratten has inherited a team that is just plan raw... there is a decent mix of talent and potentially within most of the players yet there is a lot of crap there that we need to shed (ie: russell). The main point is Ratten inherited a side was being so poorly developed by Dennis Pagan that he needed to make a choice, raise their skill level and impliment a proven game plan OR impliment the plan but get the kms into the legs to get it done.

There is no point in implimenting a game plan (especially ours) without the required skills to excute it. So shelving the fitness route he has gone out to work on our skills. They have improved however need to get a LOT better. Knights inherited a side that possessed decent skills and worked very very hard on their fitness and it definitely showed in that last quarter.

To compound our choice of skills and game plan over game plan and fitness was the fact that we had Stevens and Judd (clearly our two prime star midfielders) miss a lot of football/training and are very much underdone.

It is going to take us at least another 2 or 3 weeks to finally run out a game and if we dont win next week against the pies I think at least Melbourne will be a shoe in...

Havent developed the consistency required in the AFL over 4 quarters to win a game. Itll take some time, but also I think there is a fitness problem down at the Blues. Dont finish off matches well.

We're not afraid of winning, far from it.

Wait a few weeks until everyone is at full fitness. Judd, Hadley, Stevens still a while away from their best and they still managed to look a class or 2 above (well, Stevens and Judd anyway).

Once they can run out games because they're back, fit and firing, we'll win games. On last night's showing, I have no doubt about that. We'll win our fair share of games this year but they'll come mainly in the 2nd half of the season.

I think by now, the guys want it too much. They're running their guts out thinking 'if we get in front, we can't lose'. I have no problem with that mindset, but it's when they run too hard or for too long that they take themselves out of the equation.

I could see Fevola cover his eyes with his head to the ground after we were 24 points down to the Bombers about 10 minutes into the last quarter.

Without naming names a certain player missed a gimmee goal right in front which in hindsight was probably our undoing
Now we have all done the same and for the rest of the game the player was productive however in context it is an example of our lack of maturity between the ears and something I thinks Ratts should highlight.
Deep breath. Go through the motions.
There were heaps of positives but much we need to learn from
