Sylvia didn't come over here to play for Peel.
He's played 157 games of AFL, and kicked 129 goals, Dare say that's a few more than the combined posters on here.
He hasn't bailed yet, so I'm backing him in.
Even if he hasn't set the big footy audience alight, he is putting pressure on De Boer, Suban.

Absolutely agree but he has to show some good form for multiple weeks in a row.

19 possession was a start, but I would either like to see him get 25+ possession or start to get on the score board for 2-3 week in a row.

If performs well over the next 3 weeks then we he will be close to a game after the bye.

So he's played 157 games and kicked x amount of goals. Great. What has he done this year to put pressure on anyone? He's turned up at the club out of shape. Played poorly (especially for someone with as you say 157 games and a number of goals to his name) in the pre season. He's gone to Peel and played ONE excellent game. The rest have been between mediocre and reasonable performances. He's then been extremely undisciplined in getting suspended. I'm struggling to see how he's putting pressure on any of the above mentioned, especially Lachie Neale. Just won a RGDM with 3x 3 votes. Suban and deBoer have been average, but both played well at AFL level so would have given themselves some breathing space. But I digress, what is it exactly that Sylvia has done SINCE ARRIVING AT FREMANTLE to put pressure on anyone?

regardless of how many possessions he gets, it's what he does with them that matters. Big change between WAFL and AFL , for some of these players they rack up more touches in the AFL than the WAFL.

What Freo need from Sylvia is goals, that's why they grabbed him because he is a goal kicking midfielder. However, he would probably be about 7th-10th best midfielder at the club as opposed to top 3 back at Melbourne.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he would contribute to the team if selected. After all, he cant be worse than Jack Anthony.

We're getting there. It was an improvement yesterday, aided by the fact we had Barlow back in the middle and ZacC actually did something. The true tests of whether or not we've got any mojo back are coming in the next fortnight. We'll need to be at our 'manic' best to beat Port over there.

Yep. After that we will have played all of the current top 10 teams - we are still yet to play a team in the bottom 8. We are doing okay really when you look at it from that perspective - still should have beaten North though

That's one more excellent game than DeBoer, Suban or Mayne have played this year.

And, one of our biggest problems has been our goalkicking. Sylvia averages more goals per game than any other midfielder at Fremantle.

I'm not overly excited about our improvement in this game.

The first quarter was a pretty good illustration of how far we have to go. We dominated the quarter but only went into the first break 2 goals up. If that was Hawthorn they would have been 7 goals up and the game would have already been over.

Good teams put the opposition away when they dominate like that. Instead we had to deal with West Coast fighting back and eventually grabbing the lead back from us because of our inability to score when we were controlling the game.

Against a better team we probably would have lost from that point. Against a likely bottom 8 team we got a second chance, but that won't happen every time.

I think we need to hold fire on Sylvia until we see him get his real opportunity to prove himself. His suspension in the WAFL was inexcusable but if he was playing for EP in the WAFL he would probably be doing a bit better. On Suban, I don't understand the hate towards him. He's never going to be an A grader but he's tough and fearless, raking left foot kick and has some reasonable leg speed. If we were to let him go I reckon he would attract a fair bit of interest and probably play his best football alah Jess Sinclair at NM and Heath Black at St Kilda. I think he's got a lot of improvement in him and his best football is to come.
